  1. I recall reading that Newspapers were unloaded at both Eggesford and Umberleigh as part of the 0405 from Exeter and/or the 0617 Barnstaple to Exeter in the 1970's/early 1980s. Does anyone know if Eggesford and Umberleigh would have had BRUTES or any other type of trollies to assist with the unloading and movement of the newspapers?
  2. There is a maroon coloured Bullied coach in the Kingswear to Paddington consist in August 1967 as shown in the photo on Page 46 of 'Diesel-Hydraulics in the West Country' by Peter Gray. The author comments this was unusual as it was allocated to the Scottish Region.
  3. Thanks for input on the Southern coaches - what about GWR coaches such as Hawksworths? Did they last until the 1970s and did they receive blue/grey livery? And what of LMS coaches as well?
  4. Thanks for the advice. Are there any good books on the market that people would recommend that cover pre-nationalised coaches?
  5. I know that pre-nationalisation wagon stock stayed in service until the early 1970s before there were large number of withdrawals but did coaching stock, such as Bulleid, Hawksworth and Maunsell coaches, last this long as well before they were withdrawn? I presume none ever made it into blue and grey livery?
  6. I agree, John from Precision Labels is first class and he turns things around very quickly.
  7. I know this is slightly off topic, but is there is a good source, or publication, which details which type of SR EMU's worked each traffic diagram on each line/route in the period during 1970s/80s/90s? For example, I believe '4 Cor' stock used to work the 'Coastway' services emanating from Brighton in the early 1970's before they were displaced by SR Design '2 Hap' stock which in turn were replaced by BR Standard '2 Hap' stock in 1976 (ref: 'Slam Doors on the Southern', Michael Welch). I know '4-Cep' stock worked in the area during this time as well but I presume they were on services from London Victoria rather than local services. I am particularly interested in the Eastbourne to Hastings line during this period. Is one of David Brown's book my best bet?
  8. Great stuff again, if you have any photos of the ubiquitous 12-ton box van I'd be particularly interested to see them.
  9. Are they both self adhesive stickers or are they transfers?
  10. Would anyone recommend one of these over the over in terms of quality and ease of application? The Sankey Scenics ones come in an assortment pack which appeals whilst the Hollar Models don't.
  11. Does anyone know if there were any Siphon G's in BR Crimson or possibly even brown/bauxite livery by the mid 1970's or were all the ones still in traffic repainted into BR Blue by this date? The mostly b/w photographs I have make it difficult to tell although Paul Bartlett's website suggest they probably were all in BR Blue by this date. Or were they like the SR CCT's and Van B and Van C and the amount of grime on them made it impossible to tell what livery there were in?
  12. Thanks Rivercider, that is very interesting. From your recollection what type of the standard BR van did most of the vanfits for ICI fertilizer traffic comprise of in your time there? Were they mostly planked bodies with planked doors; planked bodies with plywood doors; or plywood bodies with plywood doors? Or was it just a complete mixture with broadly an even spread of all three types of standard van being used on the services? Was there any freight traffic which had a destination in Cornwall which would have been included on the 7B30 Avonmouth - Truro service? Did you ever deal with anything from Bristol that went to Ponsandane Yard, Penzance or Hayle for example? If so, what wagons were used for this type of traffic?
  13. In conjunction with the current thread discussing the use of company posters on the the side of vans, can anyone confirm if perhaps Silcocks Animal Feed or more likely ICI Fertilizer wagon posters were ever on any of the Vanfits that were on freight services on the line in the 1970's? Would these have formed block trains with all Vanfits having the same company logo or would it just have been the odd wagon?
  14. Thanks for your response Kris. I managed to track down a copy of a Working Timetable for Mandatory Train Services from 7 May 1973 to 5 May 1974 which shows a daily (except Monday) freight service between Truro and Falmouth, departing Truro at 0430 and arriving at Falmouth at 0510 and with the headcode 7B47, which was all the code used for the return journey.
  15. Does anyone know what the four-didgit headcode was for the pick-freight service between Truro and Falmouth in the 1960's and 70's? I have some Working Timetables but none that go back far enough to include the time when there was a freight service on the Falmouth branch. In addition, does anyone know any of the four-didgit headcodes for any other freight services that would have passed through Truro in the same timeframe? I already have the ones listed below but if anyone can help provide any other I would be most grateful. 1415 Penzance - Paddington (4A13) - Perishables Exeter Riverside - Ponsandane freight (6B31) Penzance traction maintenace depot to Plymouth Friary St Erth to Exeter Riverside freight 1450 St Erth - Kensington 6M11 – Milk 1450 Ponsandane - Exeter Riverside 6B59 – Freight 1835 Keyham - Exeter Riverside 7B44 – Freight 1950 Newton Abbott - Exeter 7B51 – Freight 1920 Exeter Riverside - Plymouth Friary 6B36 – Freight 2020 Plymouth Friary - Exeter Riverside 6B65 – Cement 17.05 Truro - St Blazey 7B19 – Freight St Blazey – Truro – Penzance trip working Drump Lane and Truro were handled by the daily Penzance – St Blazey freight 6M64 - Ponsandane up freight
  16. Very nice layout this, I remember when it was in Model Rail magazine. Can you please tell me which DVD they produced it featured in though? I personally prefer the layout when it is run in the Steam era - do you have any photos of this period you can post?
