  1. the D12 cab is higher than the T9 from the info i have. See my previous post
  2. sadly it wasnt steamable in the 50s and was always (until a couple of years ago) preserved with the unauthentic sturrock tender.
  3. the L12 cab should be around 7" higher than the T9 to the eaves. The centre line of the L12 boiler should be 8'6" from rail level as opposed to a c/l of 7' 9" for the T9. Hope this helps.i think the boiler may possibly be a little high
  4. A.Butler coal merchants of Henley have a wagon recreated as part of Pendons iconic long goods. Kniwing the research done by Pendon this would suggest they were in existance since at least the 30's
  5. layouts seldom make much money. Far better to salvage and re-use.
  6. having been in the position of needing to move layouts from one location to another, building modular layouts doesnt work. They rarely fit into the new location. Complete dismantling is a far better option and a fresh start is always better than attempting to bodge existing boards, track etc.
  7. the 2nd and possibly the 3rd of your K class models look like they may have their origins in the old keyser (later nu cast kit) im hoping this will reappear from nucast partnerships, since i foolishly sold my model to my lasting regret.
  8. many of the 4mm kits can only be fescribed as dubious aids towards scratchbuilding with so called matching parts being so far out it is ridiculous. I now refuse to touch anything that comes from that source. I do hear that some of the 7mm kits are better. Though reading this and other posts, suggests not by much. I really dont know how he gets away with it.
  9. knowing the reliability of the Ace kits artwork, the holes could just as well be a total work of fiction.
  10. If you refer to your own post #223 youll notice that you, yourself gave very good reasons against a turntable. Add to those the need to ensure accurate alignment at both ends of a very large table, i think youd be better off sticking with a traverser.
  11. to be honest, you have plenty of storage. Reckon it would be easier all round to stick with what is planned. When you decide to change the period being operated, change all of the trains. You surely wont be mixing pre-nationalisation and modern stock on the layout.
  12. The rather neat divide from clean to dirty could also suggest the train had been pushed through the cleaning plant, but not all the way.
  13. regarding extra storage. Adding a fy under the station is asking for trouble because 1. Access. You will need at least 6", preferably a lot more, to enable you to attend to trains. This leads to, 2. Gradients. To obtain the seperation required, you will need a long line of hidden track to achieve the gradient required. Models, particularly recent RTR dont like gradients. Realistically you would be looking at a hidden feeder line going all the way around the room, assuming youd be storing trains of more than 3 or 4 coaches it leads again to 3. Access. All that hidden track will come to be a pain in the ass for maintainance, cleaning, derailments, etc.
  14. Belated congratulations on reaching 1000 pages. As someone who, for health reasons, is often unable to do any modelling, this page is actually theraputic, often inspirational and certainly entertaining. Thank you Tony and everyone else.
  15. regarding the romfords: it seems a bit weird. The usual is for 3 insulated and 3 plain in most kits. My own preference is to use insulated all round.
  16. have you ever tried the 4mm kits? Some of them make jidenco/falcon seem sophisticated haha
  17. hi. You asked about the correct wheelbase. The E2s were indeed equal at 8ft-8ft. Ace kits really are dreadful aren't they.
  18. it seems these wagons are to be displayed as required on two lengths of straight line as required. So you dont need couplings. You just push however you require into the shot you are composing. Why any unnecessary complication?
  19. i need to seriously look at the weald models kits i have. One is distinctly marked as a E4x the other an E4. (Ive built the E4 kit previously. My memory is vague on my earlier builds, thiugh i recall it as a nice kit to build. I knew Rodney back in the late 70s. I wonder if he is still with us. I need to drag these 2 kits out. Im wondering if the kit marked E4x is in fact just one with only the later modifications. It certainly has significant differences. Will need to see if the different boiler is one of them.
  20. obviously it's the village drunk sleeping off a bender
  21. i had only recently had these 2 kits out to find out what extra parts i need to build them. I can assure you the kits are different. Definitely an E4 and an E4x. Ill get them out again at some point and grab some pics. May even make a start on them.
  22. Rodney Stenning (weald?) Produced a kit for the E4x. Though im not sure if it is still available. I do have a couple of his kits in my 'one day ' stash.
  23. i generally use precision having given up on humbrol and railmatch long ago The late Guy Williams used to swear by thinned ronseal which i keep meaning to try.
