  1. Have you got a TARDIS Clive? Took a look after seeing your post. Fire and Ice is next week.
  2. I guess it is a combination of both. Annoyance at the mechanical quality but I have always been a kit and scratch builder so will enjoy making new chassis. I have been out of the hobby for a while and was blown away with the apparent quality of RTR. The detail and finishing is awesome, but to me they are let down by the running. In future, I'll be more selective and only buy if i can test them straight away. My fault entirely. These were bought and put on display. It's only now that it's too late to return them, that the faults have become apparent.
  3. to be honest, I'm inclined to replace them on all my RTR locos. Even the ones that run well for now. Alongside my kit and scratchbuilt models, they just don't cut the mustard for me. Valve gear tends to look a bit thin, some have a tendency to wobble and most crucially, they won't pull the skin off a rice pudding LOL. A lot of my coaches are from the likes of BSL AND ate pretty heavy.
  4. off hand I couldn't tell you. Boxes are in the loft. Will have a look over the weekend. Fortunately I have no problem with building chassis, but makes for very expensive locos.
  5. Of those 12, 3 are hattons Collett tanks, 3 Hornby N15, one S15, 2 Hornby grange,Bachmann N and 2 Hornby T9s.
  6. I would rather have the extra work than put up with chassis that aren't fit for purpose. Of the 20 odd ready to run locos ive purchased in the last couple of years, I'd say 12 of them are going to need new chassis. As a new returnee to the hobby, I'm frankly disgusted with the mechanical aspects of modern ready to run.
  7. All 3 of my Hattons models will be getting High Level chassis. Getting really fed up with rubbish chassis from all the current firms. Great detail but the gubbins to make them work are crap. The USA European modellers dont accept this rubbish. Why should we?
  8. Have you laid track across the end with the hinges yet? It is that end that looks as if you could have problems. As others have pointed out, the hinges should be above rail level.
  9. add into the mix numerous Black 5s, Lord Nelson, 5XP Leander, Princess Elizabeth, Flying Scotsman, Green Arrow the mid 80s saw a good variety. I think the SLOA MK1 pullman set was also operating them.
  10. the missenden modellers probably did more harm to the hobby than any modelling. What a jumped up group, particularly the leader. What a jumped up arrogant man he was. Some of their modelling, even built at home wasnt much to crow about.
  11. Gauge O Guild members have full access to the library. You would need to join
  12. nope, but did notice the diesel on the tank wagons complete with face. Lol
  13. There was a model of Hythe which appeared at exhibitions a few years ago. Used 16.5 mm track and had some lovely models of most of the Romney fleet, some of which are now on display in the museum there.
  14. the representation of detail under the cab could have been moulded properly whichever method of mounting the carrying wheels was used. I feel Bachmann have skimped on the quality and detail with this model. It's a crying shame. It is probably what would have been classed as exceptional 15 years ago, but falls far short of other recent releases.
  15. I enjoyed seeing Ashburton several times. I regret never seeing Totnes. Wonderful layouts.
  16. Well, I won't be popular on here, but I think some of the model is pretry poor compared to what we have come to expect from Bachmann and Hornby etc. Those rather lightweight springs under the cab are horrid, the over scale moulded cab rails, nowadays almost always represented by scale metal rails, the list goes on. Pretty poor show for a model 6 years in development.
  17. the A1 concerned was unnamed at the time. It was just 4474.
  18. Duchess of Hamilton was restored in 1980 for Rocket 150.
  19. the Collett goods was all but mechanically identical, so sound wise youre pretty safe
  20. I've not used railmatch sprays for years. However when I did, I always warmed the cans in warm/hot water before use. After use I'd invert the can and spray out to clean the nozzle. Never had a blockage. Maybe theyve changed the specs since then though.
  21. not for much longer. The owner is permanently retiring No.9 and his K4 to a museum in Scotland next year.
  22. very nice. Those splashers are a pain. That isn't the brake, it's the reverser
  23. the wonderful Leighton buzzards by the late Peter Denny.
  24. ah, but RGW was building models models for Pendon long before he had a lathe. Like many, he acquired tools over the years.
  25. much better to thoroughly investigate and rectify track irregularities.
