  1. I've given up on Hattons and these awful chassis. My 3 will be getting new ones from High Level kits. Such a shame They should be amazing. They certainly look the part.
  2. if you do (hopefully) decide to make these available, would there be an option to provide them without some parts, I'm particularly thinking of the range at connectors, end steps and jumper cables. I'm sure many, like myself would want to replace these and by omitting them it would make life easier. Great work I've been enjoying watching the developments.
  3. Interesting results. I continue to be baffled why the Saint always scores so low. Probably the most significant design in UK locomotive development, practically every other design made since then using Churchward principles, surely deserves a quality model. There isn't even a decent kit anymore. One question if i may. The N15x was included, but why not its original version the L tank? Judging by the kind of locos that score highly I think this could be a popular choice.
  4. Since the kit is down under, it is in fact right way up for the RAD LOL
  5. nearer 40 years ago. They came out somewhere around 1980
  6. I can never fathom why the Saints dont score higher. Probably the most significant prototype in British locomotive development surely deserves to have a decent model produced.
  7. regarding bogie swing. On my still under construction Adams 4.4.0, I solved the bogie swing issue by making the chassis effectively a 2.6.0 with just the front bogie wheels pivoting. It's barely noticeable and solves the clearance issue perfectly.
  8. Hi. I've been enjoying reading through your thread. What a great layout. May i ask for your views on DCC power base? I've always avoided gradients but am considering having one on my branch due to space. Have you found it to be beneficial?
  9. yes, but usually had very basic formations and track, combined with basic signalling and often lots of flat crossings, often ungated made any semblance of speed highly impractical
  10. i realise that, but the very nature of most light railways would preclude speeds of more than 25mph having been built using the easements allowed by the act.
  11. With light loads and at the maximum permittend speed of 25mph, light railways were rarely engineered with much in the way of super elevation, transition curves or much of the finesse of their 'big' cousins. Creating too much of that would destroy the light railway charm.
  12. Its a different diagram. The prototype in your pic also features a drop down flap below the main doors.
  13. i think you are thinking of the pullmans that were there many years ago. Fingall is now beautifully restored at the Bluebell. Before haven street it was at the national motor museum.
  14. a dear and sadly departed friend used to have one of those office chairs on casters. I think he lowered it from its as bought condition. By sitting in a hunched posture, he could wheel himself under his layout entrance. Worked a treat.
  15. add Stephen Middletons royal saloon and you'd have a cracking looking train edit. Scrub that. Misread the post.
  16. Hi. Does anyone have a set of instructions for the Malcolm Mitchell 517 they would be willing to sell or copy? Mine seem to have vanished during a house move. Thanks in advance.
  17. that's a pretty little diesel. Just needs some glazing and it'll look great.
  18. my comment was in reply to Stubby who specifically mentioned head on collisions
  19. Not so with DCC. Forward is always forward regardless of which way round a loco is. So head one are quite possible
  20. I've used both the Roco and fleischmann turntables when I modelled in HO and can vouch for both. In fact they will reappear on my 4mm layout, with the Roco being reworked to resemble (ish) a UK table and the fleischmann in my storage sidings.
  21. the bogies came off a scenery van from the Foxfield railway.
  22. thank you for your replies. Wishing David and his wife all the best. Did he have any luck finding a buyer for the business?
  23. Because on many preserved lines, the carriages are outside 24/7 And stationary much(most) of the year. Only have to look at pictures of Severn Valley trains before and since the huge carriage shed was built.
  24. Is David still trading? I did send an email, prior to sending an order, but have not had a reply.
