Not having been for several years, i wonder if Pipers Mead is still on display at Pecorama? Probably his best known work and a fitting tribute to a great modeller and one of the hobby's great characters. RIP Allan.
there a reports of the 43's taking over expresses following engine failures and meeting the scheduled timings. I imagine there would have been plenty of noise on those occasions. Swindon design at its best
Perhaps towards the end of Western steam. But certainly in GWR days the moguls were highly regarded as maids of all work, undertaking their duties with typical Swindon efficiency.
the halls and to a lesser extent, the moguls were heavily route restricted on the Southern due to the width across the cylinders and throw over on curves. Whilst they did regularly work onto SR metals there were many areas they were banned from.
Absolutely loving the pictures of a back dated LB. Just a thought; before the BR stock returns to your layout, has any consideration been given to doing Grantham the BR years?
yes the fire clinkered during the exchanges, because of the Yorkshire coal favoured by the LNER. Had Pendennis bwen allowed to use its designed for Welsh coal, the results would have been even more spectacular
there was simply no need to do anything with the castles until the second world war. They outperformed everything else in the country. They only suffered when expected to work with inferior coal. If the government hadnt found welsh coal so profitable selling overseas there would have been no need to 'improve' Swindon designs which were years ahead of anything else.
