  1. Arthur They look good in the finished state, it would be nice to have time to get mine done! Mark
  2. The Pollock, slag ladle is available as a HO kit from Walthers, this is what it looks like unbuilt, one day I may assemble it? Mark Saunders
  3. These look interesting, is there an index of which wagons are shown in them? Mark Saunders
  4. The Highfits would possibly be still in rocksalt traffic as it was about then that they were withdrawn after the traffic ended when the then Conservative Government changed the way that Local Authorities purchased road salt. Shortly after this the Highs were briefly used by the Civil Engineers for spoil until they were wrecked by loading and unloading by grab! Mark Saunders
  5. This shot is of the surviving Pollock Ladle at South Bank, having originally been at Kirklevington! Mark Saunders
  6. Would that be the former British Transport Hotel or the Travelodge at the other side?
  7. Try this link to one of the BSC Corby tipplers that were built in 1939 without doors so as to avoid "Pooling" and as such stayed as PO's! https://www.flickr.com/photos/91977133@N04/15764524200/in/photolist-q24iPo-9WN1Ky-9KS81N-syKEhX-baoSuZ-8LUwjw-druTce-bLUd7t-puVsbm-s3kcBY-doUG4k-d3fmYU-rca6YS-s3mqvJ-oMRdqj-dmvNFr-s1Ao1e-pba81s-fjLc4e-pbPJMv-d3foth-d3g3r5-omt5je-eaM9Ug-e7fqXV-shCjfs-sadQUM-qBzjYe-qzYLub-qCeE8K-fDh7xs-qkcpgw-qirHpt-kAbXjg-pXWqPe-p8HZiU-fnpvSF-g1YsYo-ajEFFy-q5BxFm-qzs9q1-devziW-pw3ykS-oy7mm6-oKz7kp-cgydeq-cgyf27-r6JJvH-dkHcjK-e7fqek/ Mark Saunders
  8. Triang used to produce the Lancashire flat in a 20' version with sides, it still looks a good model after all these years! Mark Saunders
  9. Only the Prewar Chas' Roberts order books are at the NRM or if the other are they the NRM deny their existence! Mark Saunders
  10. If you can find the Post War Charles Roberts order books it would be appreciated! Mark Saunders
  11. Try these ex Kearsley wagons at SRW Reddish, to go with the electric loco's above! http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/internaluser/h116afc1b http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/internaluser/h12c396e2#h12c396e2 http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/internaluser/h8cb5f4d Courtesy of Paul Bartlett! 12. GWS91200 formerly DW100682 was originally built without sides as a 'chaired sleeper' wagon later having the sides added for engineers traffic from Civil Engineers Taunton Concrete Works! Cambrian produce a kit for both versions in 4mm ! Mark Saunders
  13. Alas I believe that all these were cut up about 20 years ago when there was a major scrapping of the internal user fleet! Mark Saunders
  14. They remained as PO wagon in use with their owners as they were exempt from Pooling in 1939 and remained so till their owners withdrew them from use! The Post 1939 photo's can be identified as they have NP or Non Pool branding! There are two photo's that have been on here in the last month but I can't remember the title! David Larkin has published some in his original PO book by Bradford & Barton many years ago! Mark Saunders
  15. Michael There is a drawing of 53M published in "Coal trade wagons" by Len Tavender "ISBN 0 9510987 1 3". I believe that the M suffix and box with an exam' date was to allow these on the main line possibly from Backworth to Whitehill Point for shipment after the NCB line closed! edit There is a picture of a class 37 on a train of 21t hoppers in the exchange sidings at Fenwick including some NCB iu wagons; follow this link https://www.flickr.com/photos/12a_kingmoor_klickr/5788279990/in/photolist-9PurYS-6RV8jF-dQ4BgU-e9MyHm-eH8vfj-6RZdJC-eH8vo3-dGz5hj-7qsWmk-7qwTdj-7ZR6k7-gDdYKc-6RVcor-gDeok6-6RVdtn-9PHU21-gDdVtU-6RVajV-6RZcqq-6RZfBE-e1BSAp-o3jvVV-6RV7Av-fLB2Eh-6ZcENB-fLjsCz-e8q6T2-dXMF1Y-butR2x-6ZgtWU-6Zctf4-6ZBWNx-6ZcCkr-6ZgsdE-6ZgDcC-6ZgsLC-6Zcrh6-6ZcAxt-6ZcA4k-6ZcoCD-6ZcpMt-6ZFYUE-6ZcB9v-6ZcEdT-6ZFVJj-e59voX-o3itsH-o3ispF-6RV8V2-6RVbq2 Mark Saunders
  16. Michael Since you are local to Blyth, Bates as a prototype has a pleasant selection of wagons! https://www.flickr.com/photos/davidwf2009/5603546118/in/photolist-4EQDqU-4ELLJV-4EQWsW-4ELLKg-4ELLKD-4EQMf5-4ER6J3-d7H18L-joD1W2-4ELHXe-4ELA1v-4ELLKK-4ER6J9-4ER6HW-e5Faxn-9xaCYb-9x7DxB-9xaD37-acRta5-9xaD6L-4EQWt1-4EQMfb-4ELA1P-4ELSQx-4ELA1B-4ER6Jf-4ELHX2-4EQvps-4EQMeN-4ELLKT-4ELA22-4EQWth-4ER6HQ-4EQWtd-4ELA1D-4ELA1T-4ELHXx-4ER6Jd-4ELHXM-4EQWsQ-4ELLK4-4ELHXR-4EQMfd-chiusf-dik53m-4ELHWT-4EQWsJ-4EQMfs-aQLhAa-r3sfHa This shot by Dave Ford is quite inspirational, showing the wagons present not long before closure! There were a selection of early 16 ton minerals including LMS, LNER, MoT and two Chas Roberts slope sided; there were a number of steel 21t hoppers, SRW wooden internal user hoppers and tipplers, as in the above of 23M at Fenwick part of the Backworth system! The 16 ton Minerals had lost their side doors but retained the end door, prior to this there had been RCH 13ton minerals that had been rebuilt over the years again without side doors! Mark Saunders
  17. It all depends on where you model and what you want to use that is available! Work on the theory that what was withdrawn from Mainline use prior to your era but were in good order! By this time the Charles Roberts ore hoppers; ex PO Coal Hoppers, Loco Coal, RCH 20 ton steel minerals, early BR 16t steel minerals, early LNER hoppers and MoT hoppers! RCH 13t & 10t minerals plus Ministry of Munitions 20t hoppers, LMS/PO coke hoppers and NER wooden hoppers of all sizes would have been in use for years! Mark Saunders Mark
  18. Arthur It is not in the catalogue, it is a by request from them; either phone or email! By doing the same you can get the LNER chassis and 1970's welded two stanchion rebody or an early BR rebody using the early BR welded 5 stanchion body! Mark
  19. I believe that this would be as it has the internal framing and the ability to cut and shut but still remaining square! I look forward to see the results! Mark
  20. There is a drawing of the 20 ton version in "Turton" vol vii on page 116 of these and it shows clearly the inward slope! Shame it is 1/4'" to a foot but it shows the same drawing was used for both S&L and Lancashire Steel. However it also perpetuates the myth the 16 ton Chas Roberts wagons were for ore rather than Coal but it gives the build details for the 20 ton ore tipplers! Numbered from 5601 to 5850 giving 250. Mark Saunders
  21. With the interest in prototypes now that the Prototype Deltic, Kestrel, Lion and the APT are produced; is it not time that Hornby produced this in rtr? I am sure that this would sell! Mark Saunders
  22. Just on a quick count of Rivets on the end it appears that there are 13 on the 30 ton and 9 on the 20 ton so I would put them as lower as photo's next to locomotives seem t bear this out! It would be nice to have the build details for the 30t ones as at least the mainline registered ones are available in surviving PO registers at either Kew or York for the 20ton ones! S&L 5725 in the official is in the Chas Roberts pictures but does not have a CR plate! Mark Saunders
  23. The one at Cottesmore is one of the ex BR wagons that was refurbished by WH Davis in 1973 for BSC! Mark
  24. The Corby 20 ton ones were main line registered, in 1973 BSC purchased a number of ex BR tipplers to relace them but BR could not provide enough so 40 remained in use! This was in addition to the 35 that were purchased new in 1966 to a similar design to the BR ones! Mark Saunders
