Or alternatively, they might be related to the proverb “he who hesitates is lost”.  I can absolutely understand proceeding cautiously with EOIs for developing a new locomotive.  But honestly, dithering about for over a year with multiple EOIs for producing a common four wheel wagon, which would have served as an ideal “flag flyer” for a new entrant to N?

Of course, I’m probably completely wrong, and this is KR finding a cunning new way to market via EFE. In which case, given the success of the class 17, perhaps an N GT3/Fell may yet see the light of day?

What "mdvle" said above is what stands to be the case for us, we simply cant afford to fund the entire project off our own backs, especially if the project is completed and we don't even break even. We need to be able to minimize the risk we take on when it comes to starting a project and the EOI's achieve this by showing us how may customers/models we are likely to have/sell.

As for the prospect of an N gauge GT3 or Fell, right now it is looking very unlikely.

And don't beat yourself up, it definitely isn't the worst thing I've read about us on here.

how could they be in a position to refund to the penny if the project had to be cancelled at a late stage?

If the funding is available to refund - why was others' money required in the first case?

We wouldn't have let it get that far if we weren't confident we could finish the project. If we were to cancel the project, it would have been in the early stages, much like the flask wagon. Thankfully, we had a lot of people willing to put their faith in us, and for that we are eternally grateful.

If we're going to play Top trumps over whether someone has enough experience to post on topics I'll raise you.

Self employed for 30+ years, owned own companies for 20+ years.  This gave me money to part fund as well as fully fund several products to come out of this and other Chinese factories, as well as other projects that didn't come to fruition.

And out of those many years, how many of them did you have to deal with a global pandemic for?

  4. I should also add, if anyone wants to email me personally at any time of the day, you are always welcome to. I reply to every email that comes into my inbox, and I take every question and query seriously. research@krmodels.co.uk

I don't check RMWeb as much as I should, since both me and my father are always busy as all hell, and we would rather focus our time into more productive ventures as opposed to arguing and debating people on a web forum. So if you do ever have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to shoot me a message.

What on earth is 'gone wrong' in plain English

With the model itself? So far, nothing, but we are waiting to see a post-production model to be delivered to us so that we can say they're ready for customers.

What is going wrong is that we are in month 7 of a global pandemic, and import/export is still a logistical nightmare. Getting supplies to the factory to be able to make the parts was an uphill battle when production started.

several projects announced with deposits taken and in the case of GT3 fully funded and under way with a increasingly variable delivery date.

1 product on the brink of delivery, and another still taking payments for. But sure, lets go with several.

Of those other projects 1 wagon was announced with a fanfare and then promptly disappeared, a poor CAD was presented with many faults but the clincher was a lack of research which would have revealed a much bigger issue precluding production.

I'm assuming you are referring to the IQA flask wagon, which if memory serves me right, everyone got their money back. None of the customers who were invested lost anything, except the chance at an IQA flask wagon.

Last night another wagon was announced and within a short space of time an experienced modeller pointed out that the underframe was fantasy. That model is supposedly 'in tooling' with delivery slot for Q1 2021 and a fixed price.  The Chineses factories will certainly amend and update tooling but it all comes at a cost, that cost can be avoided with better research.

Correct, in tooling, not at the end of tooling. Its a small wagon, tooling was never going to be as complex or take as long as a locomotive like the GT3 or the Fell. And yes, there are mistakes with the CAD, but we are human. Humans make mistakes, we all make mistakes, and we are still learning as we go from ours. You can't expect us to be flawless right out the gate, otherwise that would be more suspicious than getting things wrong as we go. (It would be to me atleast.)

try thinking for one minute that maybe someone is a little better informed than you are.

And for once, maybe just think that you aren't as informed as you think you are, when you can only see a small piece of the picture.

Maybe not, but you'll be 12 months adrift from your first projected delivery date and a considerable amount of time after customers fulfilled their payment obligation, which fully funded the model.

Correct, and in that time a global pandemic hit us, so forgive us for a couple of delays.

Looking forward to seeing these hitting peoples layouts soon, wish id put my name down for the first run.

Is there any update on EoR for a second run? Im hoping to jump on that if it could happen.

    Cheers

    James

We want to deliver the first run before we think about opening up the payments on the second run. Hopefully, that's sooner rather than later.

under frame is wrong as there were 4 tanks not 2

& there should be cross bracing on the frame work

you have the 2 tanks linked to the linkage from the brake cylinder the tanks were for air to open the doors & notting to do with the brakes

brake v hangers should be on the outside of the chassis not the inside

Many thanks, we'll look into this.

August 10th they were in the paintshop, August 27th they gave a Mid October delivery date,  now they're still approx 2 -3 weeks away from leaving the factory and being shipped.

The delivery date was never set in stone. Only when the models are on the way into the country do we know when people will receive them. Right now, we are at the mercy of fate and provided nothing else goes wrong, people should have them soon.

  11. Right now, the sample is undergoing its testing and will be for the next couple of days. Once the testing is complete, we shall try to get the requested photographs.

As a reminder, this is the first EP sample of the Fell and things are bound to go wrong. So please don't be shocked if it does.

This is only meant to show that production is still continuing despite what is happening in the world.

Hi Keith, that looks awesome mate, Im still trying to pay in full for the green version with sound but, still finding it very difficult to make a payment in full on your website, i really don't want to miss out on this, I have paid you in full for the GT3 with sound when we met at Warley a couple of years ago,  how we can sort this out soon.

If you send me an email at research@krmodels.co.uk I can do my best to help you out. - Michael

But there cannot possibly be enough of you to make it commercially viable, never mind commercially successful, which is very different from liking it and wanting a model of it. (CJL)

People told us that the GT3 wouldn't be commercially viable either, and yet it is in production as we speak now.

People told us we were fools to take on the Fell too, no one would buy such an ugly beast. Alas, that is now being tooled now.

We aren't as stupid as my father looks. If the interest is there, then the EOI will show that. If there isnt, then there isnt and we haven't lost much.

Whilst I admire KR models for doing  DHP1 can't help thinking it could be a financial disaster for them

Hardly any one has heard of it and it ran literally a handful of times on the mainline

Surely a better return on investment would be do a high quality model of something like a 31 a loco that has a reasonable model on the market but has issues the same as Phil sutton has done with 24s and 25s

Its an expression of interest, this is to gauge whether it will be a success or not.
