  1. Great work chaps, I haven't been on this thread for a while. A question for Merfyn, a chap on Facebook was asking about BR Road Vehicles and I immediately thought of you but I don't know if you're on Facebook. He's got the Ian Allan book, I'm sure we all have, but wanted info on newer vehicles. Steve
  2. Hi all, I remember a rental firm using Viva HB or HC estates with the rear side windows being opaque and their logo on the panel. I don't know if they were just ordinary estates or factory produced vans. I can't remember if it was one of the big boys (RR, Granada) or a local firm. I've seen Escorts done the same way. Steve
  3. Hi Phil, I have that article, is it ok to post here? Steve
  4. Brilliant photo Mike, and thank you Roja for the original question! Anyone have any ideas on colours for these wagons? I have 3 Tri-Ang ones primed and awaiting paint... Steve
  5. I love your cars Quicksilver, the Humbers remind me of my dad's. He had 2 Hawks, as in your pics, and a Super Snipe estate, all in navy blue with a pale blue roof. I hadn't seen the R.Parker one in the flesh as it were, looks good, but our Hawks had HUMBER in chrome letters across the bonnet just like your Super Snipes. He also had a Sceptre, but in green with a lighter green roof. Be nice to get a model of that too... Great work! Steve
  6. Hi, I wonder can anyone help. I have a spare, brand new, pc Power supply and am trying to find out if it can be used in a Model Railway environment. It is the type with both 12v and 5v (for USB) outputs. The idea is to use the 5v for lighting circuits. Any help appreciated. Steve
  7. Hi, Just browsing through this reminded me I have a Ford Consul Mk2 made by a firm called OGDI. It's to a similar scale as the Corgi Zephyr estates of the '60s but the box is decidedly based upon Dinky. It has no windows or interior, and is bright blue. I'll dig it out of the loft, meanwhile, has anyone else come across it? Steve
  8. Evening all, Matchbox did one as a fire tender many years ago which scales at 1/77, also, Oxford do a similar vehicle. Steve
  9. Hi all, Big thanks to Mike for getting me an EA van at Detling. They are great castings, maybe someone else will take up the mantle but I fear that anyone interested is more likely to concentrate on military models, similar sort of thing happened when Barry from BW Models retired. Thanks again, Mike, Steve
  10. I was just going to ask about ERDIC, the Railway used BARDIC lamps and I wondered if there was a connection. Having re-read your post, I guess not. As for making your own cones, someone suggested appropriately coloured crayons in a pencil sharpener... some locations had blue ones as I recall. Steve
  11. Hi Ian, Bernard, Was it this company that did 1/72 Saxon APCs? I saw some listed that were reasonable but with high postage costs, like these. I've had a look but maybe they're discontinued... Steve
  12. Hi Chris, I saw this at Ardingly in 2011. There were several there. Steve
  13. Hi, Weymouth tramway ran with cl33 and passenger stock very similar to the Ipswich picture. Locos (including cl03) had a bell and orange flashing light plugged in to the front of the loco.
  14. Very good! What about the ones people drop when boarding the train...along with brollies, shoes, coffee cups etc Steve
  15. Brilliant pics, Quicksilver! I love that Lancia Beta Montecarlo, I know they had their faults but I think they're great! Where was this event, please? Steve
  16. This is great! Working with the public has it's problems, though. The bit about the person the Traffic Warden likes to hate made me laugh out loud! Steve
  17. Hi, I seem to remember some connection between Renault and Mack Trucks in the late 70s, was there a tie-up between AMC and Mack or was it just coincidence? Either way, it would give Renault a foothold in the American truck market. Steve
  18. Pete, As far as mk3 Escorts go, there were loads of 3 doors, couldn't an Oxford XR3 be modded and repainted a fetching shade of blue, a la Sierra? Steve
  19. Hi, This is one I took on Christmas Eve 2016, one's an EMU anyway. Steve
  20. Hi everyone, Thank you all for your informative replies. I did have the chassis many years ago but alas that has long disappeared. I remember the drive mechanism and it's split axle pick-ups and drive bands. Argos, that CLAG website is very useful...thanks. As far as waiting for hell to freeze over, it will take about 14 years according to The Eagles! Thank you all again for your advice. Steve ps, I have a Kirdon Electric LMS1000 which has two pulleys, one on the motor shaft and the other on the gear shaft driving the wheels. There was a Mamod type spring band between the 2 but when that gave out eventually a friend suggested using 0-rings and it works perfectly which brings us back to Lone Star's drive mech again.
  21. Hi all, I'm a 00 modeller normally, but our club is refurbishing an old 2mm layout, in fact we have 2, and I'd like to contribute. I have a Lone Star metal bodied loco (as above) that is missing it's chassis. Does anyone know if a proprietary chassis will fit or can be adapted? Or even if dummy bogies can b e had...they are similar to class 20 bogies. Steve
  22. Jcb, They were assembled in Republic of Ireland, very common in Belfast (NI) in the early 80s. Steve
  23. That's useful to know, Russ, any idea what shade yellow PO vans are? Steve
  24. Yes, Cortinas, mk2 Escort, Fiestas, Allegros, Cavaliers, Astras, assorted Pugs, Golfs etc...and a Maxi, maybe some newer car-derived vans (Chevanne, Metrovan etc) Just off the top of my head. Steve
