  1. Check for small steel items like track fixing pins stuck to the magnet, otherwise cleaning pickups and back of wheels in addition to the wheels and track Should help, there will often be a small amount of sparking anyway, especially on older models that collect power only from a couple of wheels each side! Traction and grip ìs reduced on non magnetic track so that could increase the sparking.
  2. I am anticipating making a trip into Central London for the main reason of taking my teenage daughter to a concert at the O2 arena, which I knew as the millennium dome, arriving by train in to Euston hopefully around 10am, concert is 8pm and I am not going in! Last time I travelled into London was to St Pancras before it was rebuilt, no peaks there though 😒 and my train ticket included travel on tube and Routemaster busses, So my questions for the panel.. Are those combined tickets still available or do I need a separate ticket, oystercard?? Any recommendations on what to do for a few hours that isn't too expensive, got natural history and science museum booked! Was thinking about the LT museum and Covent garden. Any (model) shops worth going to , hamleys? Remember walking to Victor's My daughter has only been to the east end of London on a school history trip so a bit of sightseeing, Is it feasible to hire a bicycle for a few hours in the evening, have seen a link to santander. Any help appreciated. Thanks
  3. That is an unusual looking set, to me at least being accustomed to British trains! Could do with being longer, especially on that line. Hattons had 2 for sale at £319, may have been tempted but would have to be a lot cheaper!!! https://www.hattons.co.uk/1400145/lionel_6_51000_po03_the_hiawatha_passenger_set_3_rail_ac_pre_owned_worn_paintwork_fair_box/stockdetail Bought enough lionel recently anyway 🙂
  4. I think this fits with hattons not reading what is on the box, OK it is a Mercedes, and it Is green 🙂 Just the model and the scale wrong then, at least nothing important like the condition of the box... https://www.hattons.co.uk/1370681/herpa_b66005753_po01_mercedes_benz_e320_estate_in_green_pre_owned_good_box/stockdetail
  5. You would think it would be obvious to have a decent photo of what you are selling, This one at least in is focus, however the seller seems to have forgotten something!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284917769356
  6. Almost like summer here in the bottom left hand corner of England, was planning an early morning ride which didn't happen, then thought about going out in the afternoon ,but just left late.. Managed 20 miles!
  7. Based on the LSWR S14, tri-ang stretched it slightly and named it Nellie, polly or Connie!
  8. Can't beat a proffessional job!
  9. Ozone smell always reminds me of the Tri- ang jinty I had many years ago!
  10. Money ran out before the The Redruth and Chacewater railway got to Chacewater!
  11. I had a 1966 singer chamois, really just a posher hillman imp , had leatherette seats and walnut trim, and the drivers door lock expired so used a bungee strap around the drivers seat base and hooked on the door pockets to keep the door closed, "enthusiastic cornering" meant the door would open slightly then slam shut, later the front left hand shock absorber and spring Parted company with the inner wing when demonstrating how easy it was to get the car going sideways in Whipsnade zoo car park one night, and hitting ruts hidden in the grass, so cornering became a little more interesting..
  12. Detoured to the beach on the way home from work, only adds about 7 miles and another 400 ft of climbing, 23°C and very little wind today too. Almost had a collision with a learner driver turning right at traffic lights in front of me, a case of the blind leading the blind?
  13. I am 5 ft 9 and could ride it OK, not sure I would want to go very far, and you certainly notice the hills! I noticed later that I had the seat post up just past it's maximum extention, and the saddle is still lower than I am used to, the shorter cranks were noticeable too, it has probably been over 40 years since I last rode a chopper, will be interesting to see who buys the new version that's out on the 20th, website goes live for orders at mid day... Debating breaking this one for parts, or may try to sell it next time I Visit Milton Keynes! Not really thinking (much) about getting the new one in ultra violet 🤔 And £10 off my next order now I have signed up to Retro raleigh site.
  14. Haven't done much cycling in the last few weeks, too many other things to do, Managed just under 60 miles last week, and done even less this week! Did pick up a newer version of the raleigh Chopper, locally on fb marketplace, I had many years ago, replaced the bottom bracket bearings, adjusted brakes and inflated tyres and a quick test ride at the weekend, did use on my commute on Monday, another reason for no detours. Just a run to the shops on the Coventry Eagle this morning, sadly no Decent traction running so had to make do with a flying cucumber!
  15. Managed to reach 102 miles this week with a 7.30 departure, 12 mile ride to the coast before it got too hot (and busy)
  16. Last Sunday I decided to ride to a nearby railway exhibition on the 1980s Coventry Eagle, a nice ride with an extra 20 miles on the way back!
  17. And now for something completely different, A Plasticine diesel shunter? Lima motor bogie could be useful if it runs OK, I have one with a split pinion! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125940040815
  18. I have spent too much money recently with Hattons, mainly on American outline 3 rail O gauge, which I considered was at a very reasonable price, although there is are often Price differences on similar models, I usually went for the cheapest! Also some items in my basket were "no longer available" when I tried to pay, identical models have resurfaced on ebay at a far higher price and some have even sold! Other items were paid for,and didn't arrive as they were put on back order, apparently someone else had completed their purchase of the same items at almost the same time which allowed them to be sold twice..
  19. I bought a new blue one from Taylor & Mckenna and it never did run well, lost the receipt and couldn't return it, think it was a moulding issue and the gears didn't mesh properly, the armature later self destructed so my new £8 lima one got far more use! I later picked up a Bachmann seconds cheap from the Bachmann warley show scrummage stand and the mainline Kelly was relegated to a non powered dummy. I Was going to sell the Bachmann model a few years ago but found mazak rot has done odd things to the chassis while in storage so may use the works in the mainline one.
  20. Another car that used to be everywhere, the Austin Metro, this tidy and amazingly almost rust free 1987 example spotted in Cornwall, dwarfed by the VW polo it was parked next to!
  21. Shame Truro is in the wrong place, has drifted East!
  22. I have to admit to having a great affection for the triang TC range, undoubtedly stemming from as a youngster owning an early catalogue and carefully marking what models I would like as presents, not realising it was, as I later found out, a 5th edition from 1959 and like the Percy clockwork train set on the back of one of my Thomas books, long out of production. In the early 80s I did buy some new models from zodiac toys, wagons at 99p, locos £4.99, but not in the triang colours, these were all Canadian, and long gone! I do have somewhere a few blue coaches rescued from a skip and a body from an orange tc switcher resprayed green...
  23. Good morning, Travelled up Saturday on the LSWR mainline, missed the last train so used the bike! Actually used my (t)rusty VW on the A30 but did cycle a few miles to Bridestowe in the rain, went to my first toyfair/swapmeet for several years and Overnight stay near Exeter, should be setting off in a few hours ,
  24. My Daughter spotted this detail on a sign beside the Grand Union canal, No running (away) with fish?
