  1. I think that I now have 12 bikes... Although In my case, It's Old, fat and ugly!!
  2. To offer a contrast, my most used bike was this heavy Apollo that I was given by a colleague, managed a few thousand miles on this over the last few years, I try to cycle to work as it is only a few miles and car parking is an issue, I also wanted to lose some weight! I also have an old Dawes road bike, a halfords dutch style and a selection of shopper type bikes, the dearest being a Raleigh Pathway folder that cost £32. Earlier this year I decided to treat myself to my first ever brand new bike, and chose a trek Marlin 7 MTB to replace the worn out Apollo, the hydraulic disc brakes certainly are sharp and work well but I find the gearing too low for cycling on the flat, have got a larger chain ring (hopefully) on the way! I use the free strava app to record my routes, almost 1900 miles done this year.
  3. I remember being unimpressed with the performance of a school friends Hornby 9F many years ago, although I think it had the later ringfield motor tender drive, Eventually I bought the Bachmann model which then cost around £90, my latest 9F is the splendid Ace O gauge version, sadly Evening star was sold out so I had to settle for black!
  4. Helston Railway peckett approaches the current northern terminus at Prospidnick Halt. 12/9/21
  5. Something like this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133803324208
  6. When on the annual holiday to Felixstowe I would often get the train to Ipswich and spend the afternoon on the station, like you do! The announcements would always start something like "Ipswich, this Is Ipswich, the next train arriving at platform 1 is the .... departure for ....... Calling at.." This was late 70s, early 80s before electrification, still a signal cabin on one platform with a large armchair, when I first went! Never took any photos though.
  7. A quick early morning bike ride to the cliffs east of Hayle here in Cornwall, then along the coastal path before heading inland. Most people head for the nearby beaches so this section is usually quiet, with ample free parking!
  8. The Ace trains O gauge King Arthur was available as Sir Dinaden, did briefly consider getting one, however it didn't look much like the Hornby one I bought new over 30 years ago!
  9. Granite blocks that supported rails are still visible at the redruth yard of the former 3ft gauge Redruth and Chacewater line, on the nearby treseavean branch trackbed a short length of rail has been relaid on the original granite blocks
  10. Would this be the ex-Dapol model, or the Caledonian/ 'smokey Joe' version?
  11. About 10 years ago I found some triang rolling stock in the local tip, still got the flat wagon and tierweg with it's 3 minix cars, however The 1 maroon and 2 gloss green brush painted shortie mk1 coaches went on ebay, think I got 99p !!
  12. Clueless seller , and 2 poor photos, other items listed are just as bad. Most accurate listing I could see was for a toilet seat! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143984725216
  13. I have a stash of these old container wagons in a box somewhere, still available new, with containers for less than this example! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233914150457
  14. I remember walking along the seafront at Selsey and seeing many converted railway coaches, some with their original etched glass windows, there were more at Pagham. The excavated ambulance has been residing on a shelf for a few years now!
  15. I still have a matchbox ambulance dug up in the garden of a house I bought in the early 90s, in remarkable condition and for many years a newer matchbox pickup found on a cornish beach was stuck to the dash of my car!
  16. Had a few things I bid on disappear from my ebay page, one win appeared along with a notification to pay nearly 3 hours after auction ended! Another only shows on watch list with conflicting information.
  17. One spent a while tracing a short circuit that had appeared on a friends dcc loft layout before remembering the 3 rail dublo A4 I had left 'posed' in the station area..
  18. The Bassett Lowke brand was revived by Corgi and would probably sell well now if Hornby had continued development instead of dropping the range when they took over the Corgi brand, the Peckett is now fetching much more secondhand than it sold for new for example! And the Hornby retro centenary models sold too. Lima made the GWR toad many years ago and still around secondhand. I am hoping for a class 22 from Dapol though!
  19. I use a 18 inch length of scaffold plank laid between the first rung of my inspection ramps and the ground, its the only way to get the car,mk5 golf, up without taking off the front bumper! Still have to remove the undershield though! My 1980 Renault fuego ,anyone remember those? Had a small hatch in the metal undertray to access sump plug . I was told by an engine builder that engine flush loosens crud that then finds its way into the fresh engine oil causing more issues, so have never used it myself. Suction pumps are generally used for speed, or on boats or smart cars where sump plug is difficult to access!
  20. I was stopped by a driver delivering a van from Bristol to a company I had not heard of, turned out he should have gone to Poole in Dorset, not Pool in Cornwall, added 200 miles to his journey!
  21. Anyone looking for a cheap GWR green hst power car? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124563717904
