  1. Agreed I have to keep reminding myself it is in 2mm. I’d be more than happy with similar results in 4mm! Plus I find the dedication over such a period inspirational. Keep on buggering on!
  2. My understanding is you pick up from one side of the loco and the opposite side of the tender. The loco and tender being isolated from one another.
  3. I may have missed it but is it possible to buy a subscription nowadays using a new fangled Debit or Credit Card? My super special all singing all dancing “modern” bank account no longer provides a cheque book!
  4. You’re all wrong. I’ve seen photos of Borchester station and it’s environs. It’s pure LNER/ER. Locos, carriages, wagons not to mention buildings and infrastructure. So it must be a long incursion into the area by the LNER. The GWR must have been spitting feathers !
  5. Yes, an example wiring diagram would be very much of interest. Especially the signal and calling on signal, and how they interact regarding power to track, or part of the track. I think I’ve figured it out in my head. Or at the least how I might do it. But a worked example would be much appreciated.
  6. Excellent video. It explains a lot regarding how the track power is supplied. The idea of no section switches appeals greatly as does the fact the model is being run on, or to, prototypical principles. Less appealing is the “complicated” spaghetti of wiring which appears necessary. Much cogitating ahead for me I think.
  7. Looking forward to seeing the video Tony. From the very first, the idea of a model railway having a “purpose”, as opposed to just running trains, has fascinated me.
  8. Hi Bit of a long shot I know but does anyone have the instructions for the Mallard Models LBSC/SR/BR K Class mogul? If so a scan or a copy would be much appreciated. Thank you.
  9. I have this one in my inspirational folder. I’d be keen to see any other of the mentioned articles, especially on control.
  10. Insulating axles for split frame chassis construction? Wrong! The gods are quick today!
  11. As a 2-2-0 or an 0-4-0? Or able to be built as both? Either way put me down for one please.
  12. I seem to remember reading about the designer’s “optimistic pencil”, possibly in a Barry Norman article or in his book? This I found to be true in my many attempts to scheme out Iain Rice’s Harestone plan. As drawn by IR it is approximately 6’6 x 1’6 max. Using the Anyrail design program and PECO Code 75 (giving a reasonable platform length) gives a minimum length of 7’6. Moving to C&L in EM gauge (my intention) gives an absolute minimum length of 8’0. Now 18 inches is an approximate 23% increase in length which is not inconsiderable in the scene of things regarding the intention of the original plan. I wish I could master Templot as I would like to see Harestone drawn up on that to see if space could be saved by using custom turnouts etc.
  13. Slight thread drift, as I never saw it, but a layout I found inspirational was called Eastfleet by a member of the Wakefield MRC which I think the member gifted to them. It was a circular layout of a harbour branch in the east coast. It just captured the smell of the sea and secondary route nature of the line. Was in Model Railways magazine I think. Late 80s/90s?
  14. And moving back to CF.... I’d be more than interested in seeing a video production. And if I maybe so bold I’d like it to be similar to the Bradfield Gloucester Square i.e. a typical day in the life of with captions or voice over explaining what is happening.
  15. London Road is one of the P4 layouts I truly admire. Realistic movement/operation. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t expect a Jazz style service, time to admire the static modelling between trains is greatly appreciated. But I also realise you can’t please all the people all the time! PS Is it merely coincidence that the P4 layouts I think succeed the most are all Pre-Grouping?
  16. I think subconsciously Heckmondwike was the layout that edged me towards EM gauge as opposed to S4/P4. On the two occasions I saw it there appeared to be much going on behind the scenes but very little seemed to run. Or so it seemed to this late teens/20 year old. On the other hand Dunwich always seemed to have movement and operation. Ironic really as my modelling is best expressed as bucolic and P4 would probably have been a good choice. Too late now.
  17. Worth listening to Dick Durham on Thames Barges. He was the mate on the last working Thames Barge. Thankfully your time period means the barge should be in better condition. You do know the barges were typically sailed by two men and a dog?
  18. Certain chop sticks can make good masts as well.
  19. Will you be adding a Mizzen mast to your model? This site may help: https://www.bargetrust.org/barges/pudge/ Pudge looks similar to your model.
  20. I’m sorry but for those two so called jokes you will be the first up against the wall......
  21. I’m sure that Iain Rice advocates in one of his books spray painting the chassis and/or wheels in situ while under power!
  22. I hope no one minds if I post this on here. I admit to not having read this thread recently, so if it has already been posted I apologise. Also I have nothing to do with the fund apart from having made a modest contribution. Seems a sad outcome for a significant figure of his day.
  23. Bill Bedford bending jig? https://www.eileensemporium.com/component/hikashop/product/2562-handrail-grabhandle-bending-jig-4mm
  24. Today the box is plastic. Then it seemed to be a rafia like material.
