  1. Our latest Skrifa post is a comprehensive summer news update from PECO Model Railways here The index of all our Skrifa posts can be found here
  2. We are excited to announce our first KMRC Exclusive locomotive in 0 Gauge as Brush Type 4, later Class 47, D1610 “Mammoth” in two tone green livery with small yellow warning panel. Locomotive D1670 was originally introduced in March 20th 1965 and allocated to Cardiff Canton and was named ‘Mammoth’ just after being allocated to Landore (Swansea) in August 1965. She was later also allocated to Bristol Bath Road and Old Oak Common. The model has been produced by Heljan Exclusively for KRMC and correctly represents D1670 as introduced being an early boiler-fitted locomotive with full underframe tanks, glazed headcode panels and Serck radiator shutters. Also supplied with the model are a set of etched ‘Mammoth’ nameplates. The Exclusive 0 gauge model is available to pre-order at £699.00 and should be available in quarter 4 this year, click here to pre-order. Chris Trerise, Managing Director (aka 'Bossman), said: “Having produced Mammoth as a 00 exclusive model in the past, it was an obvious candidate for our first venture in 0 Gauge especially as D1670 worked the inaugural Clayfreighter from Burngullow in Cornwall to Sittingbourne conveying clay slurry to Bowaters for paper production.”

  5. Production of our KMRC exclusive ex LSWR / SR Diagram 1541 10T Road Van is complete and due for delivery in early July. All ten versions of the much-anticipated Kernow Model Rail Centre ex LSWR / SR Diagram 1541 10T Road Vans have now been manufactured, are on route to the UK and due for the dispatch of pre-orders at the beginning of July. First introduced by the London & South Western Railway (LSWR) in 1884 they were later classed as Southern Railway Diagram 1541. Almost 500 of these were built between then and 1905 making them the most numerous LSWR Goods Brake Van. Brake Vans with side doors through which parcels or other goods could be loaded were known as road vans. Included within the ten versions are different liveries from the original LSWR, both Southern Railway variations, early British Railways, departmental through to as preserved examples. The tooling has also catered for the Mainland and Isle of Wight versions with either straight or cranked step board supports (as fitted on the IoW versions) and round or ribbed shanked buffers. The models are £34.99 each, as the models have now left China the pre-order discounted price of £29.99 with full payment made at the time of order will finish on Sunday night. Details of the ten versions being produced can be found on our dedicated webpage here>>>
  6. Both our Guildford & Camborne shops are now OPEN for for browsing. The most exciting news is that, following the opening up of our brand new warehouse for the mail order side of the business that has been in seamless operation since Christmas, we are delighted today to be able to open our Camborne branch for browsing customers for the first time since the very first lockdown in March last year! We have also taken the opportunity to refresh the inside of the branch with some brand new display stands and its looking great! SOCIAL DISTANCING WILL STILL APPLY! Please follow the 2 metre social distancing guidelines inside, and outside if waiting to enter, the shop. There is a maximum number of 2 customers in the shop at any one time. You MUST wear a face covering, which should cover the nose and mouth and be self-supporting. Certain medical conditions are exempt. At busy times we may need to limit the amount of time for browsing. Click and collect / phone and collect from both stores and Mail order, of course, also continues as normal. Please visit the dedicated page on our website for the latest information, especially before coming to visit either branch. https://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/pg/171/COVID19
  7. The Kernow Model Rail Centre branch at Guildford will once again open on 12th April for customers to enter and browse, as it was between the full lockdowns, rather than just click and collect. The most exciting news is that, following the opening up of our brand new warehouse for the mail order side of the business that has been in seamless operation since Christmas, we are delighted on the 12th April to be able to open our Camborne branch for browsing customers for the first time since the very first lockdown in March last year! We have also taken the opportunity to refresh the inside of the branch with some brand new display stands and its looking great! All will be subject to a limit to the number of customers at a time and browsing time depending on demand and course the usual rules regarding the wearing of face coverings will still apply.

  10. Our IZA twin vans, by Revolution Trains, have arrived! There is no rest for the wicked/warehouse team as we they are also finishing the despatches of the Model Rail 16xx. The pre-orders will start to be sent out this week so keep an eye out for the Postman/woman/person! Please be patient with us as there are a lot to get through once we locate the packing team hidden by all the boxes...:
  11. As in the post above the website now reflects the warehouse stock. We are unable currently to show the two store stock levels separately online, but for any customer using the click and collect service, we as we have with Guildford, we will ensure their order is available in a timely manner.
  12. We are delighted to announce a further expansion of the business by moving our mail order operation to a new warehouse, located close to our existing Camborne store. Since the opening of our first store in Camborne town centre in 2002 we have seen immense growth with the mail order side of the business and further expanded with the opening of our second store in Guildford in May 2019. The new warehouse, that has been seamlessly in operation since the end of December, will be solely for the mail order operation and increased stock holding and will not be open to the public. Our stores at Camborne and Guildford will continue to serve customers in accordance with the latest Covid-19 restrictions, with appropriate social distancing measures in place. All our existing contact details and order methods remain the same. Our website already now reflects the stock held at the warehouse and customers wishing to use the Camborne ‘Click and ‘Collect’ will need to select the ‘Click and collect’ option when placing an order online. Join our team As a result of this growth, we are looking to expand our team. We therefore have new opportunities for customer service staff based at our Camborne branch and also additional staff on the picking and packing side at our new warehouse. Knowledge of model railways would be an advantage but is not essential. Anyone interested in applying for one of the roles should email us here Model Rail - 16xx With the arrival of the Model Rail Magazine 16xx next week, we have already started to process orders in date order, where payment details are available and current. Due to Covid-19 it will take slightly longer than usual to process orders, so please bear with us and do not contact us for individual updates as this just slows down the process, we will contact you if necessary. Chris Trerise says... “The unique circumstances that we have all experienced this year has seen a further growth in the mail order side of the business. Due to the limited space available within the Camborne store this has meant that to manage the mail order operation in an efficient and Covid-19 safe way the Camborne store has been only able to operate a click and collect service for visiting customers.” Chris continues: “We had been looking at a number of options to expand our mail order operation and the opening of our new warehouse has provided the additional space we require, and this will eventually when circumstances allow, the Camborne store to fully open once again. We are looking forward to recruit and welcome new members to our team, providing much needed employment opportunities at this time.”
  13. The 16xx models are due to arrive in Cornwall for fulfilling orders next week. We have already started to process orders in date order, where payment details are available and current. 22. At least seven were sold to the LMR between 1936 and 1943 and two survived until the line closed in 1969. Number 54885 was subsequently preserved on the West Somerset Railway. I don't have information to hand on the livery they carried on the LMR other than a black and white photo dated 1949 that appears to be grey with a large 'LMR' lettered plate across the side doors.
