  1. Hi Rich, You're making a lot of progress. However...... erm...... I have one question..... erm.... Don't the keys (wedges) go on the outside of the rails?
  2. Hi Rich, Have you looked at Steve Fay's work on here? Or perhaps this thread too: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/94913-newton-grove-19f/page-1 Just a thought that it may help or inspire!! Cheers Lee
  3. Hi Rich, Well don't look to me for inspiration on weathering... I built a mineral wagon, did a bit of trial and lots of error and I'm still not happy with the result. I also bought a cl33 body off an auction site and I've used that as my test bed. I have had better results with that, but still lots of room for improvement before I start on my JLTRT locos. All I can say about building the JLTRT kits is go for it! I was really hesitant at the start but there is so much help on here that you can (with a bit of effort) produce something (in my opinion) that is much better than any RTR manufactured loco. Additionally, you get the satisfaction of having built a loco that is exactly as you want it, not 'off the shelf'. All I can say is do it, you won't regret it. I will never buy another RTR loco because of the enjoyment I get from building them, it's just a shame that the kits do work out very expensive. Cheers Lee
  4. Hi Rich, Yes we should have organised something prior. I intend to go to Telford as I really enjoyed today so perhaps we can sort something a little closer to the time? Thanks for the compliment, I just need to get 118 weathered now. I think the locos take on a completely different persona once covered in grime. As for 060, well progress has slowed a little over the weekend but I'm hoping to try to get to the etch priming stage by the end of next week.... a coat of yellow/ blue shortly afterwards. Looking forward to more updates on your thread here. Cheers Lee
  5. Oh no we've lost another to the steam era Only joking!!! I was at GoG too and spent more than I had intended, but hey never mind. It was just a pity I did not manage to bump into others. Cheers Lee
  6. Hi Lee, Ignore me... I'm having a senior moment The refurbished locos had a curved fillet put into the window corners to allow the window rubbers to be fitted. Prior to the refurbishment the windows were quite square by comparison. Cheers Lee
  7. Hi Lee, The workload seems to be getting higher... and the quality of the finish is still superb. I have no idea how you do it!! When you do the refurbished class 26's, do you adjust the window shape at all? ( https://6lda.wordpress.com/test-history/26038d5338/ ) Cheers Lee
  8. There is also the question of texture too - particularly in 4mm or 7mm. If you search here for the use of Platsikote Suede spray paints there has been quite a bit written about this subject already. Hmmm, if I remember correctly wasn't Jim Smith-wright one of the first ones to use this???? Cheers Lee
  9. Hi Steve, Which red do you use for the bufferbeam??? Cheers Lee
  10. Hi Spenc, That's quite a collection and they all look really good!!! I see you still haven't managed to re-number the tractor yet then Cheers Lee
  11. Hi Peter, Does this mean you're getting close to being tempted by a JLTRT kit???? Cheers Lee
  12. Another JLTRT class 40 on the workbench :)

  13. Hi Steve, This is one gutsy move with brand new locos. But I have to admit your work is looking really good and will make the locos look very proto-typically correct. You have a nice smooth undercoat too with the primer. I always use etch primer to ensure a good solid undercoat with the JLTRT resin but never seem to get a a nice smooth finish. I'm starting to think that a normal primer may be a better way forward. Cheers Lee
  14. Ah yes, I see what you mean that does look quite fiddly and tricky. If I attempt this kit I'd have to get some bars I guess... Hmmm, maybe an easier kit for starters then. The JLTRT kits I've been building are the diesels (just finished a class 20 and a 40): http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/24805-7mm-diesels/page-20&do=findComment&comment=2308343 These as you probably know are resin kits and I find easier to deal with, but I really do need to have a go at a brass kit. Cheers Lee
  15. Hi George, Perhaps one day I may do just that. I really like the Macaw that you built and maybe I should get something like that. I'm just getting used to building the JLTRT locos now with a few more in the build pile to complete, so when they are done, I should really get the soldering iron fired up! Going back to the Macaw, did you use some long bending bars to form the wagon bed? Keep up with the posting George, it's quite inspirational. Cheers Lee
  16. Where do you get the airlines pipes from (white stop-cock)? They look much better than the JLTRT ones... which are waaaaay too thick.
  17. Oh good grief... that's my idea of hell. All that buffer beam pipework, what a nightmare!!!!
  18. Good grief George, I've just had a bit of a catch up on your thread and I'm astounded at the quality and the speed with which you work on these brass kits. I'd love to be able to build these but I know my limits... and these kits are well and truly out of my reach Superb stuff, keep posting!!!! Cheers Lee
  19. Hi Steve, Such a shame to remove a nice paint job.... but I guess it's a necessity for the project They look awesome!! Cheers Lee
  20. Hi Steve, Those laser cut builds do look superb. Very crisp detail and the fit of the components seems to be very good indeed. Cheers Lee
  21. Hi Lee, Do you have a video of the smoking diesel in action? Oh yes, I forgot to mention..... the difference in yellows that I used was minimal... so I've left the locos alone Top work as always Cheers Lee
  22. Hi Phil, Looks like you have another nice weekend for running trains in the garden. I have completed that small experiment with the Railtech decals, see here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/110499-varnishing-rail-tech-transfers/ Cheers Lee
  23. Hi Jeremy, I'm just playing catch-up with your build progress. It's great to see that you have now managed to get wiring done so that you can now run trains and it looks just superb... you must be feeling rather pleased with yourself. You must have just about finished building track work now and almost ready to build platforms/ structures Cheers Lee
