    The 1050 Longport to Redcar Colas freight seems to get cancelled more than it runs these days so I was glad I turned out to see it this morning - 70817 at its head as it approaches Bamford bridge in Uttoxeter.

    While I fully agree with your points on cost Phil (although it’s only £6 to get in to watch Uttoxeter Town - excellent value and good beer in the clubhouse!), I have exhibited several of my small layouts at exhibitions in the West Midlands on my own. I get someone from the hosting club to take over for ‘office visits’, meal breaks etc. and I never charge expenses as I get pleasure from exhibiting and nattering with fellow enthusiasts

    D8107 and D8096 on the return LSL charter from Scarborough to Crewe stop to set down at Uttoxeter on 29 August 2022. 47828 was on the back. Superb sound as they pulled away!

    In the early 80s, any changes to the corporate BR blue livery were often frowned upon by "higher authority" and depots told to remove their customisation. Thankfully sense prevailed and more depots started to treat their locos with more pride.

    I used to go in Railmail regularly when I used to go to Vicarage Road to see Watford play in the early 80’s. Picked up many good bargains in there over a few years, then left a deposit for a Hornby Pacer and they went bust, taking my pennies with them! Prior to that they’d had a fire and moved to a shop just up the road from Watford junction station.

    Oh gosh, what sad news. Frank was a lovely chap and really encouraging when I took my layout to the Cradley Heath exhibition a few years ago. The fish and chips from 'Ivans' were a delight at lunchtime! A sad loss, thoughts and prayers are with those close to him.
