    Just read that all services are suspended on the Bletchley to Bedford branch from tomorrow until further notice as a result of VivaRail going into administration. What a pickle, bring back the 105s and 104s!

    The 230’s on the Bletchley to Bedford branch are a world apart from the Pacers, they are smooth, quiet and well equipped internally. Its shame what has happened, it was a true bit of good old British enterprise.

    This forum is a blessing and has made more of an impact on people’s lives than merely “playing with trains”. Throughout the pandemic it kept us in touch, kept us modelling and really created a sense of fellowship and community. People I have never met personally feel like friends. For that I will always be grateful Andy, the ongoing support for those who are unfortunate to be struggling is so important now and in the future - we have a mutual interest that connects us all regardless of scale, era, location, etc.

    Like you @wombatofludham, I had a few cab rides in 310s courtesy of friendly drivers. “Just keep your head down” I was asked as we went through Watford Junction on the up fast non stop one morning - just in case there was an inspector about! Simpler days and happy times 🙂

    Happy times! A class 310 from Bletchley to Euston, across London on Northern Line 38 stock and mums sarnies to keep us going! That large scale test track held our attention for ages (much to dads frustration, he had other stands to look at!). Also remember the 5”/7.25” live steam giving rides along one side of the hall. Great memories, thanks for bringing them back to mind 🙂

    Bletchley Park.

    I did car maintenance evening classes in one of the garages in Bletchley Park in the early 80’s. Still had to go through the gate on Wilton Avenue. As a kid at school, it used to scare us going past there with the armed guards and barriers!

    Thats bought back another childhood memory! In Fenny Stratford was a Valentine, Ord and Nagel factory - there was always a very strong sweet smell of sugar whenever you went anywhere near it. As we grew up, we used to watch the football at Bletchley Towns Manor Fields ground which was right next to the factory - complete with the very strong sugary aroma - good times!

    37219 and 37116 top and tail the 1220 Derby RTC to Carlisle test train at Uttoxeter station on Tuesday 8 November 2022. They got held at the signal for a few minutes, the thrash as they pulled away made me wish I'd video'd instead!

    In my experience, it’s often the layouts (usually smaller ones) that only have a few people viewing them that have some of the most interesting features or details on. It’s also a good opportunity to ask questions of the operators and take photos.
