Well done to those who contribute to this thread - you encouraged me to get a test last Thursday so thank you! I fell into the same trap as @BR traction instructor - I cycled to the test centre (local Lions had arranged them in a tent in a local park) and walked in with my cycle helmet in hand. Immediately met with an "oh have you cycled here" along with an explanation it could increase the test score. Went ahead anyway and got the result back on Friday (how efficient!), score was well under 3 so even the cycling meant I am OK for now. Will watch out for testing sessions annually from now on and make this a regular thing. Manchester University were also onsite looking for volunteers for a 6 month cancer research project so I signed up there and then to take part - its the least we can do to help others 🙂

Back in the 80s when I commuted from Bletchley to Euston, there were a few times we got sent to St Pancras to get home via Bedford. In those days of DMUs, additional services were always put on, often with spare Bletchley 104s, 108s or Marylebones 115s that were at BY for maintenance. Some were even run as non-stop along the branch - happy times!!
