  1. Most of mine is internet as I model USA H0 but for anything I can actually buy in the UK I use my local shoppe great Eastern Models .They also have interesting secondhand stuff and some buildings have crept onto my layout if they look American .I also buy some 009 so use them for all that where possible.
  2. Try heating it up on any heat source like a heater or even a lamp and see if if it sets but sounds like something is wrong .It should go off after about an hour and harden over night but apply heat and its sets much quicker .Buy your self a new pack probably . .As milliput gets older it starts going off and drying out and making it hard to mix .I have resorted to a microwave to make it workable again but not really recommended .The white is finer and stickier than the other colours .
  3. No one has to buy it .Its a toy /model /useless facsimile /never be good as its the wrong back to back, and /or flange profile .Like Tiger tanks ,we all have an opinion whilst none have ever operated one in war .The Terrier is there and has made many people happy ,a few miserable ,even fewer very miserable ,one or two absurdly miserable and most probably indifferent. The Rails will be better/worse ,more expensive/ and you wont buy one at your local shop /outlet/ heritage railway shoppe .EMgauge and P somethings are missed out and so is S gauge .Through all this mine trundles its way through insulfrog points pulling old Farish coaches .My plastic residents of downtown industrial LA gasp at its cute beauty while a few others sneer as only plastic Americans can sneer at the fact its buffers ....BUFFERS !!!!! ...yes buffers ...are not quite as they should be .
  4. Great thread ,I love 1/1250 -1200 model ships and have a huge collection of about 4 .I would collect them properly but then a US brass loco or a new Hornby Terrier pop up and take all my money .I do have a couple of Len Jordan ships to make when I stop painting brass trains and building a layout .I read quite a bit about Battleships of WW1 and WW2 .I fancy scratching a HMS Dreadnaught .
  5. I had a problem when I bought a used 2002 Golf .a nice car ,oldish low milage but soon cropped up with a problem .Middle of a cold snowy spell and the water temp wouldnt reach normal temp for ages .The fans also started running and didnt stop when the ignition was switched off .So flat battery as well one day .I worked round the the fans problem by disconnecting them as I just used the car locally and until I got it fixed so no real issue of overheating on a winters day .I took it back ,bad sensor blah blah ,fixed but still did it ,this was a major VW centre all official .Tis the thermostat I said .If the water doesnt get hot the thermo is jammed open .,basic mechanics ......blank look etc .After a couple of tries and keeping the car for week they still hadnt solved it ..back I goes.......' "Try fitting a fugging thermosat .$@£$^%^&*(* This time they tried fitting the fuggin thermosat which seems these days to have a huge number of sensors and pipes attached .All solved .The company was very good ,gave me several full tanks of gas and a Lexus for a week so no real moan issues. This was the main city VW dealer and they consulted VW service about it and still no-one had heard of the basic thermostat rules .The thermo didnt show as faulty so it wasnt the thermo ...gawd.
  6. Finally scored a brass Hallmark Frisco 4-4-0 .I have been looking for one at a decent price for years .I even have a few sets of long deceased Oddball decals doric stripes i bought quite a few yearrs ago to make sure if I ever managed to get a loco I could paint it .I also have some Champ but as they are left overs from my custom painting days long ago they are incomplete .The model is far from perfect like most Hallmark .Its main issue is the cylinders are only 60% of full size so look a bit sqibby .God knows why they made them like it .Anyway I can now strip ,work on, and then paint .Not sure about the cyls yet though Iits one to strike off the list .Perhaps an Also model S6 will turn up at a pleasant price.
  7. We saw another Brimstone at Ranworth again .The Church is a good place for flutterbyes.
  8. Dress up as a chicken and get those scanning chaps to modelU
  9. i Have ADHD ,DADGAG,,DGDGBDand AC /DC .So whatever one I buy I will get bored with and go back to my guitars. After that I will get bored and turn up my Blackstar and rock ...then back to the Terriers.
  10. All anyone needs a an ebay shop .Its that simple .20 quid a month plus the usual fees which despite odd comments are perfectly reasonable for an international sales site ,.Just list what you have actually in stock and all is well.I have used one for decades.
  11. I will wait for the Hornby version next week
  12. I think Guy Norris started the great box shifters discount racket way back in the 60's .I sold him a new BSA 250 as I worked in a local motor cycle shop (someone has to ) .He opened a DIY store in Gants Hill and then started flogging Hornby and such .I remember Peco wouldnt supply him to ensure proper model shops to ensure footfall into model shops and make sure they couldnt get discount on everything .I wasnt really much into model railways as motor bikes and girls had intervened..
  13. Duplication is bound to happen as "popular " prototypes run out leaving the more esoteroic and possibly far fewer liveries left .its a matter or personal choice buy the company and is often based on their own preferences .i will buy a Hornby Terrier as i will pop down to Great Eastern models and buy it .The Rails version may well be better but what is better really .I dont go accuracy sniffing .If it looks like the real one from a few feet and runs well then its fine .I just like nice models .In the model car business where I spent far too long every company on the planet made Ferrari and Porsche at least until the licensing ruined it all .They did it as they sold well and indeed still do .
  14. Sure glad you guys just play with toy trains and not negotiate nuclear treaties.
  15. The one between small and large radius ?
  16. Paint it tan then when dry a thin coat of burnt umber .Brings out the highlights .
  17. You dont get much either .My daughters house about 20 miles from Guildford is well over 500,000 and is not much much bigger than a postage stamp. She longs to move back to Norfolk and buy a mansion house with a few acres ,room for a pony and a karting track .....Ha ha
  18. Andertons guitar superstore .....Kernow models and a daughter who lives a few miles away .....grandkids both liking model trains ...mmmmmmm
  19. The big problem with all this is the cars are not scrutinised and have no need to be in spec anywhere except tyres (probably) .Fuel can be non spec ,aero illegal, weight was often well light ,.it happened all the time usually to impress a sponsor by getting a headline or please a team owner who knew nothing about the sport and had yet to get a rude awakening .Lower teams know roughly what the car can or cannot do anyway and most teams will know the pecking order before the car ever hits the track and even top teams need headlines to extract more money from their parent . Martin formerly the artist known as alfsboy..
  20. Its already a disappointment as little terrestrial TV so bollox to em.
  21. Many years ago my paypal account was hacked.Paypal rang me from the USA to tell me and also that it had been sorted in minutes .At no point did they tell me to give any details or to log into a link .When I logged in as usual to my PP account it had indeed had money removed and promptly paid back.So they were careful and on the ball 10 years ago .i never consider anything on the phone as real unless I can confirm by an independent process .
  22. Saw a Brimstone a couple of weeks ago at in our garden in Norfolk and again at Ranworth .Just seen another one .
