  1. I sell the odd brass loco on ebay and always double pack everything .First the loco in its or a box well supported with the foam or some additional bubble wrap then stuck in a larger box with loads of bubble wrap again .so far its worked .
  2. This why every house had to have a hearth. Now days few homes are built with even a chimney meaning come Doomsday only the very old or rich will be able to burn their furniture to cook and keep warm.

    Wanted - Coal!

I found my lumps by The North Norfolk Railway when I had a photographers pass.It is Welsh Steam coal I gather which of course makes any electric engine run better.
  4. We did similar recently at shop in North Norfolk .A shop assistant short changed my wife by a fiver .When she mentioned it the shop girl said she was harassing her .The manager refused to count the till claiming the computer was down .In the end in front of the whole shop I took a fivers worth of stock loudly and prominently and told him to call the two speed cops parked a few yards away having their lunch .He didnt.
  5. I painted a brass Max Grey 0 gauge version once .Awesome when put on the customers garden railway with PFM sound..I wanted to weather it but the customer wanted it shiny .
  6. Same here for the automatic offer listing .I then have to reject offers .I swear ebay just slap it on at random so I watch out now .Normally I want the listed price ,Thats what Its there for but its always worth a try on the buyers part.one rejected buyer scalded me for not accepting his low offer stating that as there wasnt much money involved he was surprised I didnt accept .I then replied the same for the reverse .if he wanted why didnt he just pay the price .It wasnt a huge sum. Most stuff goes in the end as long as it isnt outrageously priced.you just wait .If I want to sell it quick I just put a really good price on it that a buyer just cant refuse.I have done this with guitar stuff to pay for another one ,Same with locos.Good old Ebay .
  7. Labour may not be as daft as many think .Check out how many Muslims vote as opposed to Jews.Check the maths .I state this only as a reason not a political comment .
  8. My grannie ,who lost most of her family via a V2 , said the best died in the trenches on both sides.Few good ones left to lead . For my own part the Germans wanted glory and and empire and the Jews were the price they were happy to pay .Then it all went wrong ..By invading east Hitler inherited millions of Jews instead a few hundred thousand in Germany.Anyone sensible would have recruited them to the eastern crusade....... and won .
  9. I wouldnt hang about .These are often door lock motors and other uses and who knows how long they will be installed .We are getting secondary use so make the most of it .I buy up a few of any that look useful long term and have wasted at least twenty quid so far .My first love are the 6 poles as most of my stuff is low speed US brass. switchers and small roadies
  10. Motors for a quid each and everyone is moaning ....priceless.
  11. I wondered about soldering an arm or tray to the rear of a High Level gearbox to support a motor .. I planned to just silicone the motor onto it getting perfect adjustment or even a Milliput saddle l. I use the 6 pole square motors a lot which have great low end grunt .I havnt tried it because I dont really need that kind of application on US brass so far but as NWSL have closed who knows in the future .
  12. I think Dave ,a scholar and gent ,is still basically analogue. That should answer any snotty remarks from the digitally enabled but hardly well mannered sections on this forum .The man ploughs his own furrow and long may he do so .
  13. They are a bit quiet .I thought about trying to get phone shot at Thorpe St Andrew of them crossing the bridge but no warning of them approaching .As neither my wife or the dogs were prepared to sit with an idiot holding a phone up for hours the shot went untaken,
  14. I had a similar problem in reverse but it was ordering a couple of bottles of Scalecoat 1 from the USA .The mail cost was Hazmat strength Fedex and cost over 100 UKP plus VAT and handling charge .I thought about asking him to just shove it in a few box car kits but didnt want to get him in trouble .In the end I worked out just what Scale coat 1 is as I had read an article describing it about 3o years ago and luckily its available here under its proper name in litre cans ,Its fine as long as you want black or some RAL colors .I only wanted black .one lad in out local post office always asks whats in a parcel .None of the others do.
  15. Gemini model cars on Etsy might sell 1/43 aftermarket mirrors
  16. I believe there is a importer and commisioner of very fine scale locos and coaches in O gauge .jusdging by the cover of RM this month .I forget their name but they will cater for your spending lust .So put down your Hornby clockwork and get spending.
  17. Ferrari and Mclaren are racing teams in so far as they finance their racing from outside sources that also bring a cache to their super car buyers .Maybe bung in a few paddock passes and hospitality when you cough up your million for new model . .Wearing a Mercedes pass may well mean and probably does mean you are car dealer .Wear a Ferrari or Mclaren and you have made it .The Germans have a habit of dropping a series after thay have wiped out the field and it starts to catch up .Many others are in it sink or swim ,grin and bear it .Of course most motor manufacturers have share holders who every five years or so have a terminal fit ,vote in anew chairman and stop the racing as the first act of cost cutting .So despite who is winning the real support for F1 comes from the non manufacturer teams who are always there not just on sunny days .
  18. When we had more cars around that people, daughters ,boy friends, me etc we put down two strips of PSP steel strip to park on the front lawn .When they all dispersed I took them up .I used to move then round a bit to minimize ot maybe equalise damage to the lawn .They were no problem but when I picked them up from a military dealer I had to leave the hatch up on my XR3 and the fumes nearly killed me .When I sold them I delivered them like wise i but in my Golf but no fumes. The Germans think of everything . i also suggest that if thats all you have to worry about your doing well........
  19. Loads on Ebay from China of various heads and sizes .I buy them as Bachmann replacements .
  20. A preserved line is a bit like a re enactment group .Its OK to enjoy it and have fun but its never going to capture the urgency and workings of most lines or indeed battles .They are working museums and most of our models are indeed preserved lines as there is only about three people on here who actually run rather than say they run an operating exact in actions and detail scale model railway .Come on admit you scallywags .Admit it that a Big Boy runs over your Southern branch terminal sometimes and a LBSCR Terrier in full livery pulls a few BR wagons and GWR coach as a brake van.My own Southern Pacific switching layout often has a few British visitors .In the interest of accuracy I do fit Kadees first .My Hornby Terrier in Southern livery pulls quite a few box cars as well as some tank cars and a caboose but only on the level .The bit of track at Appalling baseboard joint gulch taxes it greatly.
  21. Saw a set yesterday twixt Brundall Gardens and the Thorpe park and ride. Not over impressed. Are they grey or white as this one looked dirty despite being spotless.
  22. I have an enlarged prostate and take Finisteride and Tamousolin .it seems to work but I have no back up checks .One advantage of Finisteride is encourages hair growth so my thatch at 73 is getting thicker .Most of my functions came back after a few months if you get my drift .
  23. I use a black box MRC/Gaugemaster Tech 6 as it suits my layout and usage as it also has switchable DC,You can only run one DCC loco at once on the basic black box and if its on DCC you cant run DC so its one loco only .It suits me as I also work on and own DC locos as well as installing sounds etc in brass locos .As my layout is a switching plank round a corner it only needs one loco at a time .I can program CV's though I cant read them .It all works very well for me but needs are specific . I just pulled my old Bachman EZ Command out as I just bought a new wall wart for it and that also does a decent basic job .If you find a used one if may cost little but its a good enough start on DCC.Dont pay much though .Great Eastern Models may have some .
  24. How come Mercedes are already talking about quitting .Most of the teams you have mentioned are long gone.Ferrari isnt .I am not a great fan but when I attended the F1 tyre tests at Silverstone there was always a great buzz in the paddock and outside.Like I said they will poach anyone they think will help them win .A British friend of mine was an intinerant race engine builder (TOMS ,Hart ,Ilmor,Toyota ) and he washed up at Ferrari .He never talked about it .Just had a faraway look of horror ..... and a very expensive BMW and an Italian accent .
