Sadly (I think) my mum threw out my 1985 combined edition so I lost all my records. The underlined book was bought second hand, Judging by the underlines it looks to have been owned from someone in tbe South West but who must have visited Scotland.

Great news, have been hoping for these for a while. Bit of discussion earlier on about how often they were seen in Scotland and about allocation. I think there was a reference to some being allocated to Scotland. I've had a look at my 1985, 86, 87 and 88 Platform 5. There are 5 or 6 TSO allocations to Scottish locations in the 88 one. Possibly 5 at IS and 1 at PC. I've attached photos if it is of interest to anyone. I may get a couple to include in my 1985/86 Cross Country portion trains as I'm sure I've seen 2b or 2c amongst DE and Fs arrivimg at Waverley back then. So 477 on a push pull service encounters the speed restriction sign in the photo, 80mph or 100mph? Did HST only apply to Intercity 125 or were 477s treated as a High Speed Train.

Our annual members BBQ event was today. We were running various different gauges and enjoying the great weather.

Don't worry, it looks like I was wrong, like you I have got old timetables for the period I model and they are 2 per hour upto the 12 May to 28 September 86 one. That is the last national timetable I have. Funny how your memory plays tricks as I was sure they went to 3 per hour at some stage before going to 4. Anyone know why there was a timetable covering only May to September in 86 rather than whole year. The preceeding one was May 85 to May 86, as was the one before that. Yes it is great, I bought it around 15 years ago at a model railway exhibition in Elgin. The man who sold it told me the quality wasn't great, but the footage more than makes up for it. Apologies I have not figured out multi quote yet. I really need to dig out my VHS or find the DVD copies I made of Yesterdays ScotRail as I say above mostly October 1985. From memory mostly 6 coach rakes some COs but possibly some Mk3a FOs. Definitely a Mk2 aircon FO. A great video, the quality is not brilliant but around an hour of great action from the end of Plt 15. On the number of services per hour, that is odd, I was sure, as in I'd have put money on it that there were 3 per hour in 1985 however my 13 May 1985 to 11 May 1986 WTT and my passenger timetable have 2 per hour, departing Waverley on the hour and half past. Upto the loft later to check the next timetable to see if it changed by then. Interestingly I am sure that the next timetable did not cover the full year. I say I am sure but given how certain I was about the there being 3 per hour in 1985 I am not sure I trust anything I say now! They did go to 4 per hour but not sure I have that timetable to check when as my interest wanes by 1987. On the whys wherefores and when the 6 became 5 and then 6 again I need to leave that to others. The thing that kicked of the doubt in my mind and had my counting coaches in videos over the weekend was that Fox transfers do ten stripes per pack not twelve. Reminds me of the 6 hot dog rolls and jars of 8 hotdogs.

Thanks Flood, hope you are well. That makes sense I'm not going mad, it looks like two of my favourite YouTube films captured the 5 rake period. The WTT I have May 1985 to May 1986 has the loading as D210, I always assume this was worked out as 35t per coach (based on the 4 coach Edinburgh to Dundee being D140) which works out as 6 for that period May 1985 to May 1986. Going to assume it was the period after that they went to 5.

I had always thought that the standard or normal Edinburgh Glasgow push pulls were rakes of 6 in 1985/86 4 x Mk3a SO, 1 x Mk3a CO and DBSO. I was sure I had checked this before, however when recently I was looking to buy a few more to deal with some which are looking a bit rough I was checking again and all I can see on YouTube videos (Alan Harrison and jbg06003) are rakes of 5, 3 x Mk3a SO, 1 x Mk3a CO and DBSO. Worth adding these are (post May) 1986 videos, but am sure an old VHS of Yesterdays ScotRail filmed mostly in October 1985 they were 6 rake sets including one with an FO Aircon instead of a Mk3a CO. This got me wondering, did the rakes get shortened round about that time and if so did this coincide with going from 3 services an hour to 4? I managed to get 4 Lima SO on the plus side they have been renumbered to a good standard, but they have the dark blue stripe I think they were originally Lima's Sc12025. I'm unsure if that was deliberste to represent the short lived dark blue version or a livery application error. My preference is rakes of the lighter blue. Trying to decide whether I keep hunting for others with the lighter colour or apply Fox transfers ScotRail stripes. I have three packs here an old FMR version and one newish Fox version. Not sure what the third is, each are a different shade of the lighter blue and assuming they are correct Lima's white stripe is a bit too thick. Have been told the weathered version of the Fox transfers is the best as in closest to match the Bachmann 477 and DBSO.

Here is a link to one of the excellent Alan Harrison videos. At 10:25 mins there is a 47 hauling 3 Mk2 TSOs in ScotRail and a Blue Grey BSO presumably to Dundee. I think one of his other videos has the same rake at Dundee heading South.

Same issue with an arrival yesterday, brand new but a poor runner. Cleaned wheels ran in for an hour and it ran better. However it needed a wee tap to restart it on most occasions when I stopped it. Am getting a replacement for mine, hopefully it will be better. Not keen to add pick ups etc on a brand new loco.

Took delivery of 45022 today. Currently running it in but already concerned about poor running. Hopefully the usual 1 hour each way will improve it. If not I think it will have to be returned. It is also reluctant to restart after I've stopped it. Any one else having running and or restarting issues? Surprised how dirty the wheels were after two circuits, pretty sure that dirt didn't come from my track as other locos are running ok.

Some great modelling there on your thread which I had seen before. Years ago I bought flashing SMDs and wire. I can solder but I struggled with those. I was delighted to fit the prewired. There are not many suppliers and I got a batch last month, two didnt work from the start, one stopped with just a little handling. Loved the latest video. Another excellent tutorial and encouragement. The period you model is my favourite a great mix if traction and liveries even though my main interest is mid 80s Scottish traction, I do like a bit of Ckas 50 action and NSE livery.. I prefer the original NSE livery over revised. I have the same Police river SD1, but thought the lights needed beefing up a bit. Intend the change the stripe and crest to something more Scottish later on.

Thanks for that I'll look out for the switches. Yes same experience with SMDs now go for the prewired version. It is the Bedford TK fire engine I'm struggling with. The blue lights on the roof are very small. The replacement I bought look OK size wise in the packet, but are much bigger than the originals. I have carefully drilled them out to accommodate an SMD. An SMD would be too big for the originals. Not sure just attaching them to underneath would allow them to shine through. Anyway one of my fire engines has solid lights anyway. Rotating beacons, sounds interesting. Any details?

I ve fitted flashing pre wired SMD LEDs to an ambulance and police car. I'm OK with it but needs tidying up with a switch rather than training wires just now. I have a couple of Bedford fire engines one with transparent blue lights on the roof the other non transparent roof lights. I've ordered replacement lights but not sure how people fit SMDs to illuminate the roof lights. Would be interested to see how others have SMD LEDs to the Bedford fire engines and small switches in general to road vehicles. I have opted for button batteries rather than hard wiring them so I can move them around the layout.

Fitted flashing SMD LEDs to the Ambulance. The lights are hollow so the LEDs were inserted into them then held in place with insulation tape stuck to the inside of the roof. Also fitted LEDs to a Rover SD1. Next job is Bedford Fire Engines. Any ideas what to do with the them? Have ordered some new lights as one of them has solid rather than transparent blue lights on the roof. Trying to work out how to attach the LEDs so they shine through the light.

Thanks to you both for your encouragement. I did build Parkside when I got back into the hobby, looked good but didn't run well. I may give them another go.
