  1. Saw this amazing little layout yesterday at the Warley/NEC show. Got me inspired to carry on with my slightly larger layout after a long time of inactivity. I like the overall standard of finish, the colouring and weathering. It just looks so real. Just goes to show what can be achieved in a small space.
  2. I have spent most of this evening reading all 128 pages and come to two conclusions: 1 the standard of modelling is too high 2 the standard of jokes/banter is awful. As a result of both 1 and 2 I have found it necessary to click the "follow topic" button. Keep up the good work in both respects
  3. I have been working on this recently. Based on Wallingford from the plans in Great Western Branchlines by Wild Swan and using various other photos for detail reference.
  4. Anybody know the name of the layout with the DMU at the top of the page with RMweb logo on?

Always says an error occurred - in fact if it didn't report an error, I'd report an error (!)

  8. I think we need to see more pictures of the whole layout and especially those lovely looking buildings hiding behind the wagons. Looking really good.
  9. Hadn't thought of dipping them in glue then putting them on.... Another method to try. Thanks. By the way I did look closely by zooming in on the picture on my ipad. Still looks amazing.
  10. It's amazing the standards and quality being achieved in N/2mm these days. Fantastic progress. I will be watching updates with interest. Could you tell me what you used for window glazing for the footbridge and what adhesive to stick on the glazing bars. Did you get any "clouding" from the glue on the "glass"? Thanks
  11. "If you think this post of woodworking tips is drifting too far away from rail related topics please let us know, I just thought I would show you all my way of doing baseboards, and as you all know there are many more methods but this works for me." Not at all. Even for those of us who are lucky enough to have things like routers a reminder that we should use them and what we could use them for is always useful. Good clear pictures are always good for the less experienced too. I'm planning some baseboards at the moment that I want to curve rather than using rectangles. Reading this has reminded me of how I should (could) do it. Thanks.
  12. Interesting section this one. I have a craft robo which I haven't done much with yet and also have access to a laser cutter occasionally but have been limited by my abilities with CAD type software. I bit the bullet recently and bought turbo cad 16deluxe from that well known auction site for less than £20 including postage. I have spent some time on YouTube watching some excellent tutorial "films" , and would recommend them to others. Some of the best are by a chap called Paul Tracey which go through setting up the main page, menu options etc, and continue on to using it. If you type in "turbocad" in the search on YouTube they will come up. I suspect a lot of the other CAD programs will work in similar ways so the videos will be of use to others as well.
  13. Come on guys.... how does a "boat" like that appear in the middle of this lot without a description of how it was made?
  14. How do you get the clarity of the overhead Google images? I have been trying to look at some roof arrangement for a few buildings in different areas of the country but only get slightly fuzzy images.
  15. Excellent tutorial, thanks. Just goes to show the results that can be achieved by not rushing.
  16. Thanks for clearing up the arrangement for the legs. Seems incredibly simple but very effective now we can see the extra pics.
  17. Just watched the video and am very impressed with the progress. A great project, its nice being able to watch all the different steps of construction. On the video there are some horizontal beams on top of the legs, before the baseboards are lifted on. Are they fixed onto the legs in any way? I have read through the baseboard thread but can only see them loaded in the trailer, but no mention of them. How do you level the boards up if they are on an uneven floor. Will you have adjusters on them?
  18. Just opened a new bag of tea bags, different brand to usual. It says TATA on the side. Dont they make steel?

Strong enough to stand your teaspoon in. Are they producing industrial-grade Earl Grey now?

the main packaging had little flat capped tea folk on!

  19. Glad you had a successful day. I would have loved to have seen Highclere but work got in the way this weekend. Maybe sometime soon. Keep posting updates for those of us far away.
  20. Dissapointed..... can't believe you haven't cut your own gears......(!)
  21. Welcome back! your batteries have obviously recharged looking at the new etchings and Elvis progress. Do we get 11 months of modelling before the next break?
  22. I wonder if his train set is half as nice as yours? (any one of yours!)
  23. I have been to many car shows over the years where there are many interesting vehicles dotted around the car parks (some as good if not better than the ones on show). Does this mean we have to start looking round the car parks for impromtu layout displays?
