  1. It's UKBF who are responsible for border security. ET also have their own private security staff who also perform searches of vehicles but for other reasons. Presumably checking for prohibited items what might affect safety on the trains etc.
  2. Going on experience of my ex's Kias and my daughter's i10 I'd be very careful about jumping to Kia. The Sportages the ex has had have been horrifically unreliable with the second one in particular being pretty much unusable. After about 18 months the dealer bought it back and gave up on it. The i10 was much the same being riddled with reoccurring problems.
  3. UK Border Force are chronically short of staff and struggling to recruit so the chances of more border inspection points such as Ebbsfleet or Ashford being (re)opened is I suspect remote. The fact that UKBF were ordered to stop recruiting new staff and lay off existing staff in the run up to "the B word" is another Great British Win......
  4. As someone who's been involved with Customs clearance work for the last 30+ (eek!) years I'd just like to say to anyone reading this, please don't be tempted to try and skip getting a Carnet or Customs declarations done (it keeps a roof over my head!). In all seriousness, you might well "get away with it" but the consequences of trying and getting caught aren't pretty. Customs authorities aren't known for their leniency or sense of humor....
  5. Depends on how much hassle you want. I've spent the last four years in a battle with British Gas over a smart meter they fitted to my mothers house. Hasn't worked properly since day one with wildly inaccurate readings that they refuse to believe are incorrect. For example. Usual monthly electricity bill approx £40.00 per month (pre-recent price hikes!). First month after smart meter fitted - £1700.00 for a single person living on their own. Followed by £4500 the next month, etc etc.
  6. Just a hunch but I suspect part of the problem with the 68s is the lack of space (smaller UK loading gauge) for a decent sized silencer. Most things built for the UK rail market are a compromise in that respect.
  7. Bit of a pig successfully getting the printed nameplate and crests off though if you do attempt to renumber.
  8. Shame I really wanted an NSE 73 but if the livery striping is that far out I'm out. In fairness to Heljan some NSE 73s did have orange cantrail stripes.....just not 73126.
  9. Couldn't agree more. If he were one of my truck drivers he'd be looking for a new job. Yes the truck driver might feel aggrieved but that was no reason to create an (very avoidable) collision. Simply let the van in, swear a bit, and carry on with your day.
  10. Which railfreight model has the livery error? Original railfreight or the triple grey ones? Thanks!
  11. The problem with EVs and catching fire isn't that they catch fire more than ICE vehicles it's that the fires spread quicker are much more intense and a lot harder to put out. I'm involved in shipping cars and several of the Ro/Ro operators won't accept EVs for shipment and those that do charge a much higher freight rate. There are good reasons for that - higher risk!
  12. Genuinely never had a problem with the screens. Fast and efficient so hardly pointless at all. I use them as they're much quicker than queuing to order via a till.
  13. In fairness I suspect you could have also got that ticket from a ticket machine.
  14. Our postie is fine too. It' s Royal mail repeatedly losing things meaning they never get as far as the postie in my case.
  15. Having worked around (and for at various times) both companies for a tad over 30 years now that really does mess with my rampant OCD...
  16. Interesting thread as my father lives in Brockford Green and has part of the former track bed in one of his paddocks. He also spent many years working in Mendlesham before retiring.
  17. Because there's no one else to do it if I don't. And if I don't the company suffers and ultimately I lose my job. It's a very small company. (For similar reasons I've spent the last two weekends decorating the new office we're due to move into and why I probably do an extra week and more in unpaid overtime each month)
  18. The annoying thing is I've the drive/garage space for a charger just not a beefy enough power supply to the garage to support it. Had a few electricians round to quote to upgrade the supply but most aren't interested and those that will quote want a lot of money (£12-£14k!) The leasing company my car is ordered with put the availability date back almost weekly. I can have have a diesel in a month. There's only so long you can use your own personal car (especially as I don't get paid for using it).
  19. I think that depends very much on where you live. In my area (Suffolk) there are very few and those you do see don't seem to be used much. For instance a new Lidl near me has probably 10-12 (I haven't counted) and I've only ever seen one car being charged in the 3 months or so it's been open. A local Waitrose/John Lewis has four in a block but they've been roped off for months. My normal commute would be ideal for an EV but the lack of charging at home (my drive/garage are round the corner in the next road to my house with a house in between) and work (no chance of chargers being installed) mean it's ICE or Hybrid. Have been waiting for a company hybrid but the lead-in times are so long a diesel is looking likely now. Fed up of putting company miles on my personal car.
  20. The thing is it isn't "pettiness" from other countries Customs services. It's simply them sticking to their widely published and understood rules and regs.
  21. I know we can only speak from experience by I've had far more problems with Royal Mail than I've ever had with Hermes/Evri. They've been fine for me.
  22. No Next18 or 6 pin non-sound decoders in stock as far as I could see?
