  1. Mornin' All Resurrecting this topic, just had the Class 58 58050 on the rolling road and during the session began running very "surgily" but lifting the loco slightly resulted in normal running again - have looked at the wheels - they're not cruddy but I can't decide whether they're the old sort - were the 58 models (5805.1 in particular) brass afflicted from new ? (Did the anti-white crud business with the gear train some time ago). EDIT: It's back running like a sewing machine as I type ................................. that Mainline blue is just 👌 (which is why I got it in the first place - totally a Rule 1 model)
  2. and all of a sudden it's 1968 again - that is nice ............................................... 👍
  3. Unfortunately (as you know) the Kent end of the Chatham movements were always at night and I never managed a photo even though I knew when the trains were running (Father worked in HMD) and in the 70's being too young to be out that time of night. The only evidence it even happened was the occasional presence of the empty wagon & barriers in Gillingham Yard with a failed / derailed Peak or just the failed / derailed Peak if the wagon was laden and the train moved on by a replacement loco.
  4. Just seen who the NR Route Director is ........... 😬, we had him for a while - great for soundbites but don't hold your breath on this, he'll already be looking for the next job move .................................... 👌 i.e. "But the evidence we have is that it is not the train causing the failures but the phenomenal growth in services." so THAT's what's broken all those sleepers so quickly that the maintenance organisation could neither prevent the damage or replace them in time - Utter rubbish ! The route and infrastructure are designed take those trains and the projected EGMTPA tonnage ......................... but not if they're not looked after properly 🤦‍♂️
  5. A member on here - EastWestDivide has a picture of it taken in Doncaster Works (?) without the horns or ETH fittings which he may agree to post or copy.
  6. Any new decorated samples of anything on show ?
  7. Doing the same ..................... I'm struggling to source anything like suitable 6-wheel bogies however. The working from Chatham in the late 70's was often worked by a 45 which often put a wheel in the dirt in Gillingham Down yard (where the Chatham Dockyard branch started)
  8. Crikey - that's some wishlisting almost a case of ..................... (a lot will be too young to remember this but enjoy it anyway - one two of the UK's finest actors at work)
  9. I'm certainly not getting the actual R-T-R model and cutting a long hole in either end 🤦‍♂️ although I might just because it's the RTR (truth be told I didn't realise there was a post 1979 blanked off version of it 👍) So exhaust port, body flap, the battery boxes I can live with.
  10. At 3ft distance I'm not that worried - it will be Blue & say "Royal Tank Regiment" 👍 but now you've said it 🤦‍♂️😁
  11. As soon as I opened this as a 7 year old ....................... Now I actually work on a giant model railway ......................... 😬
  12. Apologies for replying to my own post but Fox plates etc delivered already - that's fine service 👍 I finish Night's on Monday then I'm turning this into this (Not my photo - (had it years off t'internet - apologies if it's yours and I've infringed copyright 😬)
  13. I have to say I've always thought the Bluebell's coach restoration team to be incredibly skilled ........................
  14. There is a link to a thread containing a file with the affected models here https://www.rmweb.co.uk/forums/topic/123769-zinc-pest-mazak-rot-the-affected-models-list/#comment-2757031 Also if your 31 has separation between the body & buffer valance with skewed buffers as circled below then chances are it is suffering. I wouldn't worry too much - I feel a glut of cheap Hornby 31's to provide donor chassis' on the horizon soon 👍
  15. PDF list of Mazak rot affected models in the thread here ................. link not working - the one in my post further up this page does OK
  16. June 1972 - Bristol Temple Meads - 9 years old - living in Gillingham Kent - car trip from a Holiday in Weymouth - everybody else went to Bristol Zoo - I had 2 hours amongst exotic diesels that weren't Cromptons ............................. Heaven !
  17. Just ordered some plates & numbers from Fox - given up with Jackson-Evans (6 months waiting and no replies despite messages - money lost 🙄) to convert a Bachmann 32-701 to 45041 "Royal Tank Regiment" circa 1975 with "0000" at both ends.
  18. PDF list of Mazak rot affected models in the thread here ................. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=1688257&key=70dc9eada5cc960392b508a8bfd473f8
  19. from probably my favourite modelshop too 👍
  20. The 000's of miles they've travelled might have something to do with it - anyone'd have loose bits after that
  21. I say again - Need that Class 501 EMU announcement first .................. 🙏
  22. Wonder if it includes the whistling sound the draught made as it blew through the door gap & froze your knee .......................... 🥶
