  1. Yes of course it can, whether it is easy or hard or what is actually involved nobody knows because they havent been built or delivered yet! The only people who might be able to advise you are Kernow.
  2. I long thought it, but now I know you are taking the piss! Teach the passengers, this is 2020 not 1970.
  3. No chance of that happening with our passengers, the World revolves around them and they wont be told!
  4. Which is why they are told to remain seated, not that they listen of course!
  5. There are very good reasons why it takes as long as it does, and being an ex South West Trains driver I am fully aware of 'how it is done on the Southern', unfortunately some posters (not aimed at you) simply wont listen because they know better than the people actually carrying out the procedure so I will bow to their (obviously superior) knowledge of all things railway!
  6. Despite everyone (Met Office, Network Rail, the TOCs etc) telling people not to travel it never ceases to amaze me how many people HAVE to make life or death journeys and then complain about everything!
  7. So thats even more cost (kerching) and delay (kerching) for zero benefit!
  8. So £382 with the usual 15% discount.
  9. The dimensions of the PL11 point motors are- L 62.0mm W 10.5mm over body,22,8mm over legs H 9.3mm or 13.0mm with the optional base attached. The point motor can be connected to the point without the base.
  10. So who wants to be my passenger when I am off to work at 04:00 or on my way home at 02:00? Just had a thought, what about when the other half takes child 2 to school, she would be okay taking him but would be on her own on the way back home in a morning and back out in the afternoon? Actually that one is fine, I can stay home on my day off and enjoy the piece and quiet!
  11. Now £115 and with much better pictures- https://www.hattons.co.uk/515582/hornby_r3440_po03_class_p2_2_8_2_2001_cock_o_the_north_in_lner_apple_green_gloss_finish_pre_owne/stockdetail.aspx
  12. Nah Signallers NEVER try and piss off the train drivers, a Signalman told me that although he was laughing at the time!
  13. The new aspect has to be proved lit (by the lamp proving relay) before the previous aspect is extinguished (same goes for a route indicator to be proved lit before the signal will clear to a proceed aspect), it is possible to get a picture with both aspects displayed at the same time although it is difficult for the human eye to notice, although it can notice when a signal is cleared from red to green and it 'runs through' the aspects as stated by Bécasse. Modern systems seem to take ages to 'prove' route indicators and we can have the route indicator and red for several seconds for no good reason whatsoever before we get a proceed aspect. Edit- Beast has covered the last part brilliantly.
  14. Tree on the line at Theale so it might have been turned back at Kintbury to run via Melksham hence the 'funny' timings. Par Signalbox has taken a direct lightning strike,I am sure you can work out what effect that has had on the service.
  15. Looking at the 'bottom' of the point motor with the terminals towards you they are lettered A, C, D, E, F, B A, C and B are the coils, A left, C common and B right. D, E and F are the frog polarity, D left, E right and F common. So in order left to right- A coil left C coil common D frog left E frog right F frog common B coil right I hope that clarifies it.
  16. Wind was South Westerly so doesnt really get into Dawlish, its the South Easterlies which are the problem.
  17. Good job you didnt pre-order a Bachmann 158 when they were announced.
  18. A lot have been felled around the GWR network and more will no doubt follow so it is being dealt with but there is a lot of catching up to do.
  19. GWR have a blanket 50 from 12:00 to 18:00 Sunday pretty much everywhere from Paddington Westwards except Wales. And from 06:00 Sunday to 0500 Monday- West of Swindon and Castle Cary to pretty much everywhere in England. They have also cancelled all diagrams so everything will be made up on the day giving maximum flexibility subject to which lines are affected or closed. I have never seen such a restriction applied so they must be expecting the storm to have a massive impact but I am sure everyone travelling will only be doing so because its a life or death essential journey. Edit- The lack of info about Wales might be because I dont sign any routes in Wales and my late notices only cover routes I sign.
  20. Too late, somebody beat you with the apples and pears. And yet my 2003 BMW E46 Touring 2.0L diesel will also give a real world 62mpg on a run (when it gets the chance which isnt very often), my 1993 Peugeot 106 1.4 diesel would give a real world combined of 58mpg (was 64 when I was doing mostly motorway miles with it), although it wouldnt go up hills very well having a meagre 50hp when built, several had escaped or died in the intervening 27 years.
