  1. "The Forest of Boland Light Railway" by 'BB'. Great childrens book but sadly out of print. John P
  2. I just bought some extra green plugs for the back of my Z21. I got them for $1.64 each from a broadline electronics distributor here in the US, considerably cheaper than the 2 pounds 50p price I saw on some UK websites. The manufacturer is On Shore Technology and their part number is EDZ1550/2 Hope this helps John P
  3. The Dapol Cl56 is N Gauge not OO. Wouldn't the EM gauge wheelset stick out a bit? Did you really mean the 56? Regards, John P
  4. I would say no. The DCC signal is an AC square wave, your CDU would not work well and might damage you DCC stuff. Regards, John P
  5. Please please say that this is OO. For N Gauge Electrofrogs, they do work straight from the box, no cutting or snipping of anything. Regards, John P
  6. As others have said, interlocking using a 3 way switch for route setting would solve the problem. If you decide to use frig juicers then you only need two, not 6. Fully isolate the diamond and then put two frog juicers on the two frogs of the diamond. I have done this on all the crossovers on my layout and it works fine. Regards, John P
  7. It could be to do with the Brymen's sampling rate when measuring AC. Remember that a DCC signal is not AC, in that it is not a Sine Wave. It is a series of pulses at whatever line voltage you are using. The best way to look at a DCC signal is with an oscilloscope, but even the handheld ones don't come cheap. Regards, John P
  8. The 08 may be tricky, but all the others should accomodate sound nicely. Regards, John P
  9. Sorry Steve, I didn't mean to offend you. Regards, John P
  10. Hi Steve, This isn't meant to sound rude. If your end user doesn't know how to fit a chip to a DCC ready loco, are they taking a step too far moving to DCC? DCC is all about having a middling knowledge of electrics. I personally would run screaming for the hills, if I had to solder a loco kit together, but electics hold no fear. Regards, John P
  11. I have a Z21 black and routes are supported. I think the software would be similar on the z21 white. Regards, John P
  12. The wiring looks OK to me. But it does leave the option of having the points set for the siding and trying to run a train over the green line. This would cause a short. You need to interlock the routes and points somehow. Depending on your DCC system you could use route setting to acheive this. Regards, John P
  13. I'm not that familar with OO but surely an Electrofrog point doesn't have any plastic bits except for the check rails and the sleepers Regards, John P
  14. Sorry didn't mean to be anonymous. Regards, John P
  15. Ah, but the original purpose of this poll was to show our anonymous letter writer that DCC is at least as popular as DC, hence the number of articles on DCC. So its acheived its primary mission. It's also reinforced what we already know. There are as many opinions on this forum as there are members who like trains :)
  16. Yes You go to track controls and press the + button Then you can add points, routes, signals, occupancy detectors, etc. To add a route you simply add the points you heed to the route and then set them appropriately Regards, John P
  17. Excellent news. Looking forward to seeing this progress John P
  18. If the Peak Forest operation is still Cemex, then why have their wagons been debranded? BTW, my understanding is that the Revolution wagon will have Cemex branding, it will be up to the user to debrand them, but having seen the real thing that would seem to be dead easy as they didn't bother to match the shade of grey they used to the original wagon body. Thanks, John P
  19. The only reason to go to Chester is for the Zoo which is one of the best in the world. The other reason to go is if you're scouse (from Liverpool) and doing a pub crawl/ stag night. New itinerary looks way better. BTW I took Cross Country trains from Macclesfield to Bristol on my last trip, ran on time, reserved seats are free, and necessary. It was my first ride on a proper train for over 20 years, and while its all relative, I thought the cl221 Voyager was a decent ride. Regards, John P
  20. So this question is just out of idle interest as I have a Z21 black and have had no issues. What is the wlan package that has been mentioned for z21 white? Doesn't it already come with a router? If it doesn't then how are you supposed to use it? Regards, John P
  21. Remember that due to the strange map projection used in the UK Cornwall is actually 2 hours further away from anywhere else in the UK than you think. York to Didcot is a full day drive, it would take 3.5 hours WITHOUT TRAFFIC. There's no such thing as 'without traffic' in the UK unless you want to set off at 2am. Last time we drove from Heathrow to Manchester and back for a holiday. it took 3 hours at 11PM to get to Manchester, it took from 9am to 6pm to get back and we didn't get over 50mph on any of the motorways we were on. Also remember its not the US. You could spend a month in London and still not have seen everything. York needs at least 3 days, probably more, most visitor attractions need at least half a day and probably more, and there are generally lots of things to do almost anywhere you stay. DON'T return you car to Didcot, assuming you're using a major car rental company, drop it off in York and get a train to London, or wherever. In York you have the Castle museum, the National Rail Museum, Jorvik, the Minster, Fairfax House (ala Fairfax County Virginia), and don't forget tea at Betty's which will take 15-30 minutes standing in line but it's worth it. As others have said you're trying to see too much in too small a timeframe, Shrink the number of destinations and spend more time in each one. Regards, John P
  22. Sounds like its the wrong power supply, from memory the Z21 can do track voltages up to 18V, if it's only getting 16V then that's a problem Is it a Z21 Black or White? Regards, John P
  23. No buzzing on mine under any conditions. The transformer is a Switched Mode Power supply, 240V AC in, 18V DC @ 4A out. If this isn't providing 18V and it's buzzing then get it replaced. Regards, John P
  24. Sorry Terry, wrong forum OOPS! A number of us have seen this problem. It is caused by the Shaped metal retaining clip that is under the bogie not being clipped in properly. To fix, remove the bogie, take look down the underside of the wagon, you'll probably see that one side of the H shaped clip is slightly too high. press down hard with a small screwdriver on each corner of the retaining clip, if it isn't flush, you'll hear a small click as it fits into place. That should solve the problem. Regards, John P
