  1. And one comment suggests...."Dr Kneebone is not related to Nurse Thighbone but I understand they are connected."
  2. I declined the option when we travelled from Alice Springs to Darwin 12 months ago. Had I chosen it though I would have told the waitress to "make it snappy".
  3. I wouldn't put an etched plate in the middle of your carpet!I took my grandson to HMS Victory in the summer and we nearly tripped over an etched plate in the middle of the deck! "Nelson fell here" - "I'm not surprised grandad!"
  4. They usually have them in December, just before Christmas, each year. That seems to be the only time they have them.
  5. All they have to do is "reverse the polarity of the neutron flow".
  6. The 57xx class (including the 8750s) finally totalled 863 locos. This Wikipedia page gives a reasonable overview of the differences and dates. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GWR_5700_Class However, don't take any notice of the first photo. The preserved 4612 was first restored with pre-war insignia on a 1942 built loco!
  7. No. The cab windows are fine for the 8750 locos which had a different cab from the earlier 57xx class. The loco in the photo (8700) is one of the 57xx type.
  8. Your pannier (3715) was a pre-war loco having entered service in January 1937. However, it would not have carried the 'G W R' insignia at that time. When first built it would have carried the roundel 'shirtbutton' like this: https://www.Dapol.co.uk/image/cache/data/HK-2S-007-010-02-1200x800.jpg The earliest versions of this type of pannier (8750 sub-class) were introduced in 1933 and would have carried the full 'GREAT WESTERN' insignia then.
  9. Many years ago (before Bachmann or Mainline produced them) I had a go at improving a Hornby Pannier: Still nowhere near today's standards (and it won't run on Peco bullhead). However, a much simpler change a couple of days ago for my grandson: PS. The front wheel isn't really green! Just a weird flash effect.
  10. Who's moved Didcot? At least twice in last night's programme it was claimed to be 46 miles from Paddington which means it's now about halfway between Goring and Cholsey! Maybe it's another consequence of the well planned and executed electrification scheme?
  11. This superb diorama was on display at the 'Steam' museum's Swindon Railway Festival last weekend - very impressive!
  12. Is anyone on the forum a member of this club or know how to contact them? I believe they were the group exhibiting an N gauge layout - Rannoch - at the 'Steam' Swindon Railway Festival last weekend. I bought some items from them there and would like to get some more but I can't seem to find up to date information about the club on the internet.
  13. I shouted and shouted until I felt a little hoarse. Then I got on to the little horse and rode swiftly away.
  14. Is it missing the traction tyre from the rear near side driving wheel? I've just bought an Airfix version with a similar issue caused by that.
  15. Reconstructing the cowcatcher on no. 1 grandson's Disney train locomotive following a rough shunt/collision with the floor!
  16. Reminds me of my youth, living alongside the Piccadilly line, though the panniers were never that shiny, and usually steamed past in the dark!
