  1. Does this mean all the display cases, around the Vale scene, are now empty of locos and rolling stock?
  2. Just checked. This photo is in Russell's "Great Western Engines" Volume 2. Low res online version at: http://www.railuk.info/gallery/notes/getimage.php?id=799
  3. I believe that GWR locos built during the war didn't even have the hole in the cabside until the windows were fitted post war.I have seen an ex-works photo of a 2251 with just a blank cabside.
  4. "Heavy Freight 28xx and 38xx consolidations of the Great Western" Colin Veal/Rev. John Goodman, published by Great Western Society 1980 One of the appendices has details/dates of allocations, liveries, boilers and tenders for 3822 throughout its service career.
  5. 3822 WAS painted black - in August 1944. It was painted green again in September 1946, when it was also fitted with cabside windows for the first time.
  6. Although the GWR/WR coach working books often prescribed the type of vehicle required for a specific working in a parcels train many of the vehicles are shown simply as "Van". I presume this means virtually anything could be used in this case, from a four wheel goods van up to an eight/twelve wheel bogie van or brake van? However there is a large difference in capacity between these two extremes so does it not really matter what is used?
  7. H17 - 2355 (toplight D47 van third) H18 - 2365 (toplight D46 van third) According to Harris, "Of lots 1173/4, two were built as kitchen brake thirds with only two seating compartments, but retaining ordinary numbers although on restaurant car diagrams. They were intended for the service of refreshments on short distance expresses. No 2365 was converted back to a standard brake third in 1937, no 2355 in 1936."
  8. You're definitely not wasting your time though!
  9. I like the chimney on the left but not sure about the green one in the middle?
  10. According to various publications I have 2920 was at Taunton in 1934, Chester 1938, and Hereford 1947.
  11. Looks like a Churchward 3,500 tender, one of the earlier, flush riveted ones.
  12. West Ruislip GWR signal box was closed in 1992 but still survives in this condition: https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=VacSGyxG&id=B4A869B709A4DB77CFEBE6D6C380B202823E7988&thid=OIP.VacSGyxGp2vPkCyOoRuglgHaE0&q=west+ruislip+signal+box&simid=608050247528613557&selectedIndex=4&ajaxhist=0 Probably because it's well hemmed in between the Chiltern and Central Line tracks.
  13. You're very welcome.I should be at Didcot again next week. So if there's anything else you need to look at let me know.
  14. I hope these help? Offside: Nearside: The pipe: And a few others: I'm sure you realise that these are from 5900 Hinderton Hall.
  15. Sorry, I didn't see this post until today or I would have put these photos up earlier. I attach them now for interest.
  16. I'm pretty sure I still have two copies! Both arrived as gifts several years ago.
