  1. So in Hornby’s case “Exasperation is the Mother of Invention” ?
  2. No, we have been with four different suppliers over 6 six years and still have the same (now faulty gas meter) meters.
  3. Last time I looked (a few months ago) the ML MSE Club had been suspended because of the current situation and not had an email telling me different yet, we were transferred from Pure Planet to Shell Energy when PP went bust just before Christmas.
  4. Exactly, we got excited when teacher wheeled in the ancient even then 16 MM projector. As to the Lithium experiment our science teacher loved showing how to slice a piece off with a scalpel (yes it’s that soft) and watching it spit and bubble in a very bright white light, great fun when there’s no H&S. Hmm must have been Potassium then looking at the video…..well it was 55 years ago
  5. There really is no need to be frightened of new technology, it almost always is more reliable than that it replaces and more efficient. But let’s not get into that here As to the tumble dryer unfortunately we have a 93 year old infirm (read incontinent) Mother to look after, so washing machine and tumble dryer get used at least once a day if not more.
  6. Your not moaning about Hornby are you? Seriously though that’s interesting about the depth being different, I am sure with a bit of forward thinking they could have made them the same.
  7. I was wondering if there is a ready made colour match somewhere?
  8. Indeed it is, daily/weekly/monthly/yearly costs as well as adjustable for unit cost etc….think it cost about £25 six years ago.
  9. Sounds just like our non smart current reader
  10. That’s interesting, so far ours has been bulletproof, our previous TD did leave some clothes a bit damp but this one has been fine although we do tend to use the “extra dry” programme.
  11. We went for the John Lewis condensing heat pump model, it was top of the range when we bought it (five years ago) we went for that one primarily because of JL warranty and service we have had before with appliances, fortunately we have not needed to use the warranty. Apparently it is an AEG model under the badge.
  12. Of course, Imam not averse to Smart technology (we have an EV after all) but not if it is sold on the basis of saving you money but blatantly made for another reason.
  13. We had a heated pool for thirty years so we tend to ignore the gas reading
  14. Which is why I decided to just buy the new NDM and use my nice old original set and save myself several hundred pounds, thanks for making the original set such a good one Hornby
  15. But as I said before, you don’t need a smart meter for that just use a clamp on current meter with a RF readout in the house, we’ve had one for years and they are useful for showing usage amounts but it’s entirely up to the consumer whether you turn appliances off or not to save money.
  16. Indeed, we had a pre Smart E7 meter.
  17. Every bulb in the house is LED and Mrs BB moans at me for going around closing doors on rooms with the rads turned down as we are not using them, I honestly cannot think of anything else we could do to make a big enough dent in the bills to make it worth while.
  18. I lost the keys to my TARDIS after the cavemen attacked the Doctor
  19. The new supplier Shell Energy told me not to worry about the failed meter as they are not taking over the gas supply until the 26th January and our charges with them will start from that date, I queried the “lost time” and they again said they would bill from 26th January……so I did try.
  20. But you don’t need a smart meter to charge off-peak…….we had economy seven before and that worked with just a timer in the car We were with Green Energy and Pure Planet for two years until they went bust, they kept telling us we needed a smart meter but in the end told us they were having issues with their meter supplier and it never happened, not that I would have let it. They are the supplier last year I told about the non reading gas meter and they ignored every single note I sent them with each meter reading telling them about the faulty meter, they just didn’t seem to be “on the ball”.
  21. How do they help you save bills? Unless your going to look at the meter every time you turn something on and then decide to turn it off again….but then you can do the same by using a simple current clamp meter with a readout in the house (which we have), we haven’t had an estimated bill for years as we send the reading in at each time they ask, not a biggy. They want you to have a smart meter not for your cost savings but so in the future they will be able to use variable charge rates at high and low periods of demand. Having said that unfortunately our gas meter has a fault which has stopped it recording usage so requires replacing and I have notified the suppliers of this and they say they will get around to fitting new meter (and it will have to be Smart) when they can, I don’t mind as it was first reported last September and since then officially we have used no gas over the Winter, I think they are not too bothered as our original supplier was one that went bust just before Christmas.
