  1. But as a lot of people will also be running the Titfield Thunderbolt (let alone Rocket) on their layouts a few months either way matters little
  2. then Edit : I typed D1ckh3ad…..but for some odd reason it deleted the word
  3. Isn’t this true for just about everything* in life? *sky diving and sword swallowing excepted
  4. No, sorry I meant when he was revving his engine. If he’d revv’ed the engine in drive it would have been a different outcome
  5. I worked in China over ten years ago and the industrial parts are not exactly “back woods” areas, some of their towns and cities put ours to shame.
  6. Presumably the RR was stationary?
  7. Several ways in fact but one which guarantees no mess or damage to the model I have used recently is using BlackTack…..if you stretch a small piece of blacktack out until it is very thin and long it is still nice and sticky and mounts etches nice and uniform on the body side. And I mean very thin, don’t be frightened to stretch that stuff out
  8. Dame Vera Lynn……….my cousin was her driver/helper for decades, and he said….. She was the loveliest lady he had ever met, which is why he stuck by her until her demise. Just for balance
  9. Bloomin’ easy peasy……wasn’t it? I have a thin iPhone type dismantling tool and it has very strong very thin plastic “blades” and found that just easing the blade between the body and chassis at each rear corner (actually at 45deg to the corner) popped each side off easily. Cheers chaps…..now to find a chip with “Edward” on it
  10. Trust me whatever the math.....they are bloomin' heavy!
  11. https://iplayerhd.com/player/video/dae6a69a-adb1-4692-aaba-cff7e6bcd493
  12. I foolishly said I would DCC my grandsons Hornby Edward engine......fine no problem I thought but I just cannot get the tender apart, any ideas? It is a late model so doesn't have the ringfield motor but what looks like a 3 pole geared at each end, but no mater how many screws I undo or thin screwdriver I slip twixt tender body and chassis it feels like it will break before it lets go!
  13. Battery BMW i3 Nominal voltage: 352.3 V Capacity: 42.2 kWh Weight: 284 kg Dimensions: 1666 x 993 x 173 mm As you can see almost the whole interior is taken with cells, the cells do not just contain Lithium of course, that element maybe light but the finished cell structure isn't.
  14. That is the weight of the battery pack, as it is able to be removed as one assembly.......which is what we are talking about I assumed? Otherwise its like saying the weight of as diesel engine is 50kg,,,,but of course that is without the flywheel/clutch/alternator/starter/fuel pump/inlet and exhaust manifolds etc etc.
  15. If you say so The Tesla S P100 battery weighs 625kg…..quite heavy. edit: from Tesla specs “the P100D with the Ludicrous mode option, a 100 kWh battery with 315 miles (507 km) of range, weighing 625 kg in a 0.40 m³ volume; a density of 160 Wh/kg.”
  16. Go on, you know it makes sense………and I have a wife of my own thanks, getting new models in is akin to escaping from Colditz.
  17. That’s because the Ami has a very small battery yes, you might be correct throw in either lead acids although obviously practically old tech and not a good idea, or three bags of Blue Circles finest
  18. I believe the Twizzy is favoured by nutters as being really fun to drive and Chuck around
  19. Philj, sorry Lithium batteries might be light compared to the same capacity of NCad (and especially lead acid, surprise, surprise ) but a Lithiun battery pack in an EV is a large proportion of the Kerbweight. For example the old Mercedes B-Class B250e* which was the all electric version was roughly 350-400 kg heavier than the petrol/diesel model. *I used that as an example because it’s the only model I can easily think of which really was the same but different drivetrains.
  20. maybe it wasn’t a Croc you ran over…..poor old woman
