  1. But all vehicles must have side repeater DIs which nowadays are usually within the side mirror housings (it’s easier that way for wiring loom cost) so you should be able to see them, of course the US actually mandate front and rear side reflectors at the corners of the vehicle.
  2. If the DI is incorporated within the DRL housing then the DRL must dim or turn off while the DI is operating. What does make direction indicators almost invisible are those that are “wrapped” inside the rear lamp, some rear brake lights are so bright it is impossible to see the DI flashing while the car is braking, no legislation for that particular issue.
  3. Indeed, well I have been using Deluxe Material Track Magic and I think that smells of lighter fluid/kerosene a bit so might well be in the good area as well, seems to work but then maybe it does or maybe it doesn’t or maybe it’s black magic voodoo juice?
  4. Although it does reek a bit of maybe Hornby thinking the other manufacturer may have got some market research which favoured a re-run and Hornby decided to take advantage of that gamble, sure not infringement of any kind but a little smelly.
  5. If there is it’s going to be a real issue in a few years time for all the hundreds/thousands of humidifier manufacturers. Let alone the smelly room thingy-me-bobs in use in so many homes.
  6. Very interesting and actually a balanced test…..but I am going to wait until I am having issues before paying £37 for a small pot of the stuff (Amazon) When our Gentleman tester bought it it appears to be only about £6 a pot……did somebody find a gold mine or what?
  7. What some people tend to ignore or choose when commenting upon auto wipers is that fact that the turning on of the wipers is not the helpful bit what’s the useful part is the fact they sense how much rain and adjust the speed and or intermittent wipe periods. Yes of course a driver can adjust the speed himself but then it takes a little bit of concentration off the road while he adjusts the intermittent speed or speed of the wipe, no one can argue that’s not the useful part. On the other hand auto dip lighting I find annoying and just not predictable, fast or clever enough either before or after an approaching vehicle passes, usually before they stay on just a bit too long and after they stay off too long meaning your driving on dipped beam in an unlit road for just a second or two too long.
  8. He’d be scarred for life if you took him through the engine room while running…….”never mind Dad I’ll wee when we get home”
  9. A common misconception between phone batteries and car (EV) batteries again. The battery management systems of EVs are quantum leaps ahead of lower tech using batteries. Every warranty on EV battery life I know of is usually 8 years and down to 70% charge, not “until it will hold no charge” after that the EV battery will be replaced under warranty (and the old battery used in home storage usage for many more years rather than scrapped), so far there have been very, very few replacements required due to degradation.
  10. Careful you may have gained some statistics regarding human observation.
  11. Lovely sight……I wonder if it would break any rules if they installed the high intensity (modern) lamp into one of the domino places? Would disguise it nicely for that classic look…….when it was off of course.
  12. Did the push bikes have pedals back then?
  13. You may remain sceptical, it’s your prerogative.
  14. Until all the surrounding road infrastructure starts using DRL it’s not lost at all, the saving of road deaths is predicted to become greater when all vehicles use DRL.
  15. Most of the research was taken during daylight hours, hence why they call the daylight running lights……there would be little point in research into DRL at night or evening/morning conditions when normal lamps should be used. And as you surmise they are very useful for the very type of “I didn’t see the car” conditions. The brighter DRL help register the vehicle with the brain rather than it merging into the general road scenery. Have to agree with you on some of those bike lights, some are so bright they actually dazzle and there is no legislation as far as I know regarding them.
  16. Quite few very long reports. But just from the Gov.U.K. Legislation docs. “Research has shown that DRLs are likely to reduce multiple vehicle daytime accidents and fatalities by up to 6% once all vehicles are equipped. DRL are likely to result in a small increase in fuel consumption and CO² emissions of around 0.5% but this is expected to be lower when LEDs are used in place of filament light sources.”
  17. Only the one for me, first one I rode with my Uncle on……..well they (AS) haven’t done the prototype yet apparently I was only six when I was taken to see DP1 but unfortunately cannot remember much about it apart from it being big, blue and very, very noisy!
  18. Aha I see what you meant now, rather than the short indication you get the warning symbol permanently on, I always used to leave the Audi Q3 lights on auto regardless, as I do all with auto lights providing I have satisfied myself they come on and off at the appropriate light levels.
  19. Thankfully I believe these incidents are down to cheap lithium batteries which power those disgusting devices. If you ask the Chinese to build something very cheap you get something very, very cheap
  20. It is, or can be, my Rapido Pannier has a firebox glow (mind you it’s very weak) that only glows when the “fireman shovelling” sound is activated, that’s pretty accurate.
  21. Biggest problem (apart from the oily mess and smell) with the seuthe generators is they are oil based and I have always believed the smoke from oil has a different vapour characteristic to steam vapour, oil vapour seems to be in a smooth thin line where as the first time I saw a room atomiser using water I thought it looked very much different and much more like a steam cloud, since then I have been hoping someone would make a model generator using water, it appears the time has come.
