The old fogs had a good dollop of coal tar at their heart, modern fogs are a pale ghost, thanks to the Clean Air act.

Hroth is right. I left work in Manchester in smog at 3.45pm in 1958 and got home in Oldham at 8pm, my face black above the handkerchief! The Lewisham crash was a nasty one. Poor souls.

Absolutely, horrendous, it breaks my heart. Sometime around '72 or '73 my mum and dad took me and my two sisters there from the Midlands, the thing I remember most is us sitting in the back of the car in the Valleys making up a song about the disaster, a lament, we were touched then and still are now.

I remember thinking or saying as the news came on the telly, "They won't have a half term holiday". As a nine year old. Two years ago I went to Aberfan and left a note with the flowers I placed in the cemetery saying when I get to Heaven and it is half term they can all come round mine to play.

It took some time to get the message across and just as we got there BTP showed up. It was handed to the very nice man but i had to explain what i expected him to with said expensive bit of kit.
