  1. Yep, that was exactly what I meant 8)
  2. There's plenty of photos here: http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/essobtankwagonvb and here: http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/cegbtankwagon The first 3 prototype wagons were built around 1957, by Charles Roberts and the design proved so successful that eventually several hundred were built by other builders as well. There are subtle detail differences between the ones produced by different builders. They were operated by Esso and Regent (later Texaco), amongst others, but I'm not sure when they came out of use.
  3. Personally, I'd dry the sludge by baking it in the oven - it dries faster and you'll also kill off anything that might be present, such as slime moulds that you really don't want on your layout. Heating it to over 63 degrees C for 30 minutes will kill any organisms. BTW - This is top stuff Dave!
  4. You don't have to go down the full CAD route, especially if you're not planning on doing anything too complicated. I've used CorelDraw quite successfully for etch artwork in the past, and that shouldn't take you too long to get your head around. Try Inkscape as a free alternative. HTH
  5. Ah, milions (billions?) of extra cost just to placate the NIMBYS. The problem is that there seems to be no politicians with b*lls any more.
  6. Looking good Jo! I can confirm that the green circled thing in your picture above is a brake cylinder.
  7. If you ever do those in 7mm scale, I'll definitely have one (I presume you mean the type as used by the Tyne and Wear Metro like this one: http://iansrailwaypics.smugmug.com/Trains/Gronks/i-hxCT5Np/0/L/Brush-shunter11-Mid-Norfolk-L.jpg).
  8. And here's said sphere from a different angle, before the rest of the plant was demolished, taken in 2006:
  9. The bridge looks to be this one: http://binged.it/PCUPBe where the line enters the site, under the A403, from the Severn Beach branch.
  10. Wow, there's certainly plenty of attention to detail in that signalbox. Top stuff!
  11. I'll second CK's comments, they all look really good.
  12. They do other materials though, I'm going to try having some of my parts for the IZAs done in their detail resin, which seems to have the same qualities as FUD. I think it's a bit more expensive though.
  13. Only acheived 47.3 mpg on the way to work this morning ;-)

I acheived infinity - I didn't go to work, the car hasn't moved all day.

      Will you achieve Nirvana next?

  14. Of course, you know that's not proper modelling Kerosene Castle is looking good, you're well on the way to capturing the front end nicely. That'll look good racing through Highclere!
  15. Tom - you could scale those from the wheel in your photo - and it'll get you within 0.1-0.2mm of actual scale size.
  16. Makes sense to me brightspark. I used a neutral beige on my layout, which seemed to work in concentrating the eye onto the layout itself, not the stark fascia. I also agree with Julia, in as much as the simplest, and possibly most effective way of solving the problem is to move the track further inboard.
  17. Packed it in as they were fed up of being laughed at? I admit, I did have a bit of a chuckle when I saw the name on the building
  18. Even then, I'd rather have a nicely moulded grille than a coarse see-through replacment (the Lima 73 and A1 replacement parts spring to mind).
  19. Yes, it is, it's just a shame it's not available in a few more shades.
  20. Wow, thanks Mike, more fascinating insights. Could you point out the deliberate mistake alluded to above, please? I'm not knowledgeable enough to be able to spot it.
  21. That was a pattern of weathering seen quite frequently, particularly on freight locos, in the late 80's and early 90's - the ends were cleaned, but not the bits inbetween. I've never managed to find out why.
  22. Good luck with the show, Jo! Unfortunately I can't make it again this year.
  23. Ha, I knew I knew the name of the author of that article from somewhere! I haven't read it completely yet, but it looks like a very interesting read, and a very thorough job.
