  3. Remembers why he loves SWMBO so much, had modeller's block last night trying to visualise 4gig - she came up with an utterly brilliant idea for the foreground just like she did for Summat Colliery :)

mmmm, and I'd better start thinking about rodding runs ......

  4. So the goods shed is done, save for some much needed weathering and fitting out etc. Here's a couple of snaps of it in place on the Templot plan. Next step is to get some Peco flexi and a couple of wagons to check clearances etc Cost? - a 20 ml tube of UHU - £1.50 ish, 2 36g gluesticks - about £1. Scalescenes download £4.99 Card was salvaged from work and the prints didn't cost me owt either
  5. Having a small son has it's advantages sometimes. I mentioned that I needed a few coffee stirrers for an idea I had about a free set of coal staithes. A couple of days later he presented me with a good handful that he had "collected" on his last trip to a well known fast food joint. So, here's my McStaithes A coat of weathered wood and then some dirtying down should do the trick 🙂
  6. Next step is widen the baseboard by 6 inches
  7. Had a day off today so started to remove the bits of 4gig mk1 that are no longer needed The platform will be reused but the cinders are in the bin. I was relieved to find the pva softened easily with water - still made a mess of the kitchen though!
  8. Went to Birmingham yesterday - no not the NEC, the Sealife Centre with the boys whilst SWMBO went shopping, I think I enjoyed it more than if I'd gone to Warley :)

Cheers chaps, he's been a little star, big bandage on his right hand, good job he sucks his left thumb! Docs recon the bandage can come off on 2-3 days. Lucky boy not to hit bone or tendon. Now where's the Calpol? ......

  12. ooh! St Minions on the front cover of HM - How mwny more Mansfield Show 2012 layouts will get the same treatment before March?

  13. Oh I've done loads of Scalescenes kits, bit of an old hand now - from the free small goods store on Summat Colliery to all the O gauge buildings on Fourgig - platforms, signal box, station buildings. I even have a now superfluous platform overbridge that look AGES
  14. I was talking to Traction of this parish yesterday about the Engine Shed kit that has been serialised over the last three months in Hornby Magazine and on the way home from work it occurred to me that if I nicked a foot of the fiddle yard area at the front I could extend the coal staithes road past the goods shed to lead to said shed Got to say it's a no brainer, I only need 1 ft of fiddle to hold a couple of cassettes at any one time, all I need is the kit in "Ashlar" and I'll be looking for more 3mm card
  15. Over the last few lunchtimes I've been busy with some free card and the Scalescenes Goods Shed kit, again the OO kit blown up to O gauge on the printer. Here's how it stands at the moment, with mug to give an idea of scale rafters are glued to the card and are drying under a box of paperwork (knew there was a use for it ) There's a lot more corrugated card in this one than I normally use, and the main walls have been made a lot thicker than designed to give a bit more rigidity. Must print off the track plan again to make sure it fits!
  16. Evening #2 with the R859 Black 5 - body washed, chassis stripped and cleaned. A few spots of oil and missing motion replaced from my stocks and she's all ready for many more years of running :)

  17. Old tender drive Black 5 bought from Wycrail - fixed armature, new brushes and springs and the old MK1 tender drive is running like a good 'un ;)

    1. sixteen 12by 10s

      sixteen 12by 10s

I had an old tender drive black5, I cut away the underside of the boiler, fitted a Crownline detailing kit and modified the valve gear to look something like. The whole thingg ran like a box of spanners until the wheels disintegrated..

Ah but this is the original Fliechmann derived unit - will run forever ;)

  18. Has just received a pack of 12x36g gluesticks - should be enough for that Scalescenes Goods Shed!

  19. Thanks for the ideas, oddly I've had more feedback here in less than a day than I have had for days on the Templot forum The original track on board one is unchanged so it should still connect.....
  20. it's a fair comment, it is cramped basically because the scalescenes shed is soooo big, I think it will be okay, but I might have to be careful where I park the vans on the siding IF I ever run anything longer than an 0-6-0 tank round the loop .....
  21. The water idea came to me on the drive home Saturday evening - I foolishly used the bit of ply cut off the 4x2 sheet when I made the first board only 1.5ft deep for shuttering in the garden - it occurred to me if I had a lowered section on board 2 for some water I could use that offcut to extend board 1 Got any spare reeds?
  22. Following two consecutive weekends helping out on other's trainsets I have unashamedly nicked sought inspiration from Ian Morton's shake the box for track plan and Chris Nevard's Catcott Burtle for the water feature at the front and have come up with the new, bigger, improved 4gig I've got to extend the depth of the current 4ft board by 6" and make another 4x2 I'm currently cobbling together a Scalescenes goods shed, again the OO kit enlarged on the printer to O scale to ensure it will all fit in. The siding next to the shed and coal staithes will be inset, so I'll probably use DAS clay and then scribe some concrete type joins in it etc. So, Santa, please bring loads of cash for a shopping trip to Marcway for lots more sleepers and BH rail. The double slip looks fun to make The layout is already penciled in for Wycrail 2013, so I'd better get a move on
