  1. Thanks Ivan. I didn't know that.
  2. Brilliant Brian. Now we need an extra siding within the 'stealth' factory!

I'm told that our friend from Cartmel Toyshop still has one up for around £50 (for the 'n'th year!) I was surprised to get £1.25 for mine!

Finescale? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item415f0a5ac4 Quote ".........they are quite rare as unpainted" Oh no they're not. I sold one on Ebay for £1.25. I'm glad that it went to 'wanted' home!
  5. Hope that you don't mind me adding this to your thread! This is the most fun to play with!
  6. One to look out for on 'Children in need' night. Lord Alan Sugar will be in front of the dragons in 'Dragons Den'!

  7. Nothing is simple any more is it Vincent! You are quite right to point out the difference. I reckon that I should call it P43 as it will be using Swiss Fama/UTZ stock Many thanks for the information. It is all very helpful. Best wishes John
  8. Many thanks Dave. I had forgotten about the post as I had no takers until now! I've never seen Riggenbach rack points before. The pics are most enlightening. It could be that I may now consider using it instead of Abt. The question is for a planned 0 scale metre gauge (protoscale..P0m?!) layout, with one rack point. I could use Riggenbach instead of Abt as the location is a 'might have been' joining the Furka Oberalp (Abt) with the Brünig (Riggenbach) over the Grimsel Pass which was actually proposed before WW1. So a choice has to be made!

Not surprising really, it's that Mr Micmcn of the Cartmel Toy Shop again. Similar to Mr Gostude previously discussed. People must pay this sort of money for so-called 'sought after' stuff. Perhaps I ought to try some 'code 3' weathering on some of my old rubbish then!

Agreed Darren. Not much of a weathering job IMHO. A quick blow-over is about it! For the extra £91 I'd expect a little more hand applied limescale and much better oily weathering of the wheels and motion.
  12. Matford 'Old' is now no more! http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/568/entry-7771-matford-old-is-no-more/ Matford 'New' will arise from thr ashes in due course.

Oh dear, when is Ebay going to do something about the 'new and unopened' description when we have an assembled and painted kit? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/kitbuilt-4mm-Scale-GWR-Dunster-Signal-Box-/270834831572?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3f0f0390d4 Silly me...never of course, because they don't ever seem to be interested in the slightest. I've e-mailed them about it in the past..they never bothered with a reply apart from an automated acknowlegement.

Now that will be interesting to see what the final figure will be. I've no idea what a true value of such a masterpiece would be, I'd almost be tempted to bid.....!
  15. These rack points have two motors one to move the rails and one to move the rack..or do they? In the switching movement which normally moves first, the switch blades or the rack? Is the route change movement at the switch end all done in one go with the rack? One of the things that puzzle me is how are the movable rack sections supported when they move across the running rails during a route change.

There must be plenty of 'collectors' out there to keep him in business judging by his feedback totals and items sold numbers. I've got one of those, perhaps I ought to try my luck!

I wonder why he never auctions his 'collectables'? Could it be that he wouldn't get anything like his 'buy it now' prices?
  18. Started building 'polyfoam' baseboards for Matford 'New'. Much still to do on the viaduct though! I like to have two jobs on the go to keep my attention up!

I tend to get bored working on just one thing!

Looks pretty awful but at that price it must be a 'collectable'. With that number of bidders it must be recognized by a few!
  20. Some lovely timelapse images our home taken from a satellite. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/time-lapse-video-shows-around-the-world-in-62-seconds.html
  21. I suspect that it's something to do with a EU directive on the dreaded health & safety so that when the hoist is at the bottom any poor unfortunate worker can't plunge to his death. I believe that there must be some sort of automatic locking system before the platform descends!
  22. Another rogue trader has been caught, this time by the Swiss bank UBS. Well fancy that, who'd have thought that it would ever happen again! It would seem that all the new 'rules & regulations' in investment banking haven't worked. Traders make huge profits from tiny margins when they do a trade, or a gamble as we would know it. It would appear that investment banks are riddled with such people who just haven't got caught yet. Now UBS bank may be 'downrated' by one of the credit rating agencies upon who's opinion seems to be important to the whole system. The very credit agencies that who said in 2008 that there was no problem with 'trading' sub-prime mortgage debts in the States. Economics of the madhouse/casino?....Then there's the European Central Bank Euro crisis...........! What's the alternative, bearing in mind that communism failed?
  23. Thanks Rich. Yes AFAIAC this is now the only way to go for scenics and also polyfoam baseboards (where appropriate!)
  24. There has been yet another large cable theft http://www.google.co...315811049A00004 When is the Goverment actually going do something about this instead of more talk and 'looking into'? If there is a will, things can be changed very quickly by an emergency Act of Parliament. The most sensible seems to be changes to the way scrap dealers operate in a 'cash' climate.
  25. I'm with you there! (from a fellow Celt) We (Wales) was robbed yesterday! James Hook's penalty was clearly inside the sticks. The ref should have 'gone upstairs' for a decision. All very poor. (sour grapes of course!). IMHO a good show from Wales. For what it's worth, I think ITV's presentation is rubbish. I miss Jerry Guscott, Jonathan Davis, Keith Wood et al as the pundits and Brian Moore on commentary. ITV's lot are all so wooden. It's yet another failing by the Beeb's highly paid sports director Barbara Slater who famously said that the 'new deal' for F1 was "a good thing for viewers". She and her predecessor Roger Mosey have lost so much sport coverage to the commercial channels...cricket, half of F1...(how long will it be before that goes completely)....what next?... golf, RL 'Challenge Cup', yet more football being frittered away?.....
