    EBay madness

Ah but it's our Mr Gostude with his antique toy shop again! But judging by his sales (11000+) there must be people out there prepared to pay his ludicrous prices for stuff quite often available at much cheaper prices elsewhere. How you can have an 'unopened' non-existant box? Ebay 'fixed' classifications don't help of course. When ever I sell on there I always reflect this in the description if appropriate in any sales.
  2. Back to my original post on general product 'greenwash' the latest is in regards to the biscuits I buy for the cats. Nestlé have printed on the box "10% less cardboard"..so what! It will save them money, I will recycle the box anyway...........

Doesn't anyone check through previous prices bid if you want to sell seriously?
  4. Coming on a treat Brian! How long until we get to play with it?
  5. Unfortunately not quite so harmless for this stupid boy.
  6. Right on the money there!
  7. Following on from Steve Williams post 'obituary' ........... Perhaps some common sense might, just might, come to pass.. A relative until recently worked for a local council and was constantly questioning those 'unqualified' self appointed jobsworth council officers who banned the likes of tinsel at Christmas time on top of computer screen because they saw it as a 'fire risk' When questioned how many fires have been caused by tinsel, the answer was.."well none..but it could" They had heard about it from another council. At last the HSE has publicly castigated these people. Perhaps the Government should go further with their leglation re- 'no win, no fee' claims handling companies and injury lawyers and ban all television advertising so as to try and reverse the cursed 'compensation culture'. it just might save us all some money on our motor/home etc insurance in the future. Some summer fetes and winter firework displays in my home area have not taken place in recent years due to ever increasing insurance costs.

As were these! I was 'watching' for the 'bottom drawer' until it went silly! I suppose that it takes the pain out of waiting!
  9. On the general subject of recycling, the sheer number of different plastics used in the food industry that we find in our supermarket packaging (raw meat trays and the like) is mindboggling and IMHO completely unnecessary. Why cannot the Government legislate in this matter and insist that these trays are either all compostable (which is already done by some companies) or made of one type of plastic that is recyclable? My council will only recycle two sorts of plastic type /1\ & type /2\ as there appears to only be a market for recycling these types. I question sucessive Government's committment to recycling when they could deal with this by legislation in short order. They seem willing to rush through a change in the law regarding the ludicrous appeal court judgement about bail. Simples!
  10. Well put Steve, well put.
  11. I think that I've got some in the garage Tim, shall I look it out for you? It would give you that lovely smell that would enhance the whole thing! You should do a 'Bath Green Park' and make the roof transparent so that the viewer can see all that lovely stuff inside!
  12. First snap of near finished first pier. Red oxide undercoat applied prior to finding the correct brick colour. Still some work to do with gap filling and the edge face brickwork will have to be refitted. Here are some more snaps of progress. A few more clad with brickwork along with the first couple of the 'longer hole' piers where the hole goes into the supporting plinths. It's been very difficult to clad the piers properly when using Staters embossed Plasticard. As discussed on a previous thread the brick course alignment is absolutely appalling. discussed here If it wasn't for the fact that we'd already purchased a large quantity of it I'd bin it all. Never again! Surely Slaters should be looking into it and getting new 'moulds'. We (the hobby) has long patronised them and I feel that they should at least supply us with accurate materials! Rant over!
  13. Loose fix of section three. Only two more sections to go (1 & 5) !!

What do you expect from Mr Micmcn! He of the load of Gaiety tanks he's had up for years!
  16. A dry run to check fit of the pier assemblies. The screwed rods are to allow accurate adjustment between the piers and arch sections. All the holes through which they pass are oversize to allow for this prior gluing together and for final bolting to the 'undercarriage'. They will also serve as 'droppers' for track power so no need for wiring through the piers. The next (big) job will be cladding the piers with plasticard and the curved brick etches. Also the same with the arches. Much happier with this one, than the first. Mind you it's always the same in that you finally get it right when building the last one! Only three more to go!
  17. At last the secrets of 'Tortoise' motors revealed! The stall motors that they employ really can have all sorts of applications.
  18. 143-311 143-312 Either please Charlie!....but SS Great Britain preferred.
  19. Yes. It will be installed on 500mm wide boards in five sections. The possible plan when we exhibit it on it's own will be adding some wide 'countryside' boards along the front to give a better setting and having it set-up so that the top is maybe at just below eye level.
  20. A couple of snaps to give an idea of how some more of the thing is shaping up. Bear in mind there are still two more sections to build ,albeit slightly shorter.
