How we used to model (pre plastic)
Re6/6 replied to MyRule1's topic in Modelling musings & miscellany
I made several of these (not that successfully as I was only a callow youth back then!) . The big challenge was cutting out the cardboard ERG coaches. Well, that was all that was available for the beginner builder of model railways. I also built wooden CCW and Ratio coaches. All good fun. I still have an ERG coach which I keep for old times sake! -
Marsh all loaded up. Track cleaned to within an inch of its life. Everything triple checked but still have that nagging feeling that something has been forgotten.......!

Likely from the Kingsbridge branch...?? -

Totnes in the 70s. Interesting regarding the old pre- MAS changes. Note the crossover in the middle of the station, which was moved eastwards to the river bridge during the re-signaling scheme. Also note the old down bay road on the left which was used for the Kingsbridge parcels traffic, presumably after the branch closure, also an old signal/ground frame box which was used for the S and T gang. All gone now! -
I was a regular visitor back in my school days in the 60s! Back then it was the most realistic bullhead track available as I recall.

How realistic are your models? Photo challenge.

Unusual and interesting coaches on Flickr

Though not Flickr, here are a couple of old photocopies of what appear to be either an ex-GNR or GER coach. I acquired this from the late Nigel Hunt's effects. He modelled both of these railways so one would assume that that it was from one of those. A wonderful study in dereliction.- 518 replies

Countdown to Wells has started . Irritatingly, a mystery small dead section on Marsh took all day yesterday to rectify. It turned out to be a buried track dropper that had become 'dry'. When these faults occur, one's patience is sorely tested, particularly when you have a circuit then you don't! Elation at a successful solution then and next minute despair when it's back to square one! Oh the joys of the hobby! ...and now the computer mouse has packed up......what larks.....! 🐷

Lovely pictures Martin! -
Yes we have. The challenge is to work out just how Grahame was planning to fit into his scheme of things. The planning is really at a 'pre-planning' stage ATM. We do have his track layout foamboard base so we'll probably extrapolate from that. The idea is to continue what Grahame might have planned.

Ah, the joys of the FS! Feast your eyes on this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMsm7-9ivd8&t=39s A magnificent model with full OHLE and running 'pans up' Here are dear old bgman's lovely buildings that 10800 and I are very fortunate to own. We have some of the electrics shown in the film. Some inspiration.

Indeed it did by the looks of things! Thank you for that. Never seen that picture before. Too late to change the siding now!

The end of the Sawmills siding...very much disused and normally unseen! It's unclear if it ever went further along the wharf.

Roaming the railways of Romandie and beyond - Geneva/Genève/Genf

As ever, brilliant stuff Tony. Thanks. -
I have no idea of the measurement Paul. Regarding the gradient, it would appear that the wharf was slightly sloped as can be gathered from the picture. Anyway, I modelled it the supporting wall level as it wouldn't normally be seen! As CK said, there are plans to feature early occupation of the Sawmills siding by some FoDR stock. I have an old w/m 61xx and a Hawksworth coach which would be sheeted for a very late operating period with a Cl 37. There is 37 awaiting conversion! Thanks to CK for his work on the Cl 14, making repairs and 'beautifying' it with improved dirtiness. A 'realms of fantasy' picture when there were two engines present on the branch. Steam and diesel power never appeared together nor would there actually ever been two locos on the sidings at the same time, but hey......!
