  1. Work on Fochriw has paused in order to 'completely' finish 'Parkend Marsh Sidings' ready for the S4 society AGM and Wells...not to mention 'Balcombe' which is due out next year so enough work for now! There has been a new arrival in the shape of a 56xx. Having just seen Al's new 'N' small terminus has made me think about building something similar for my Swiss and Austrian 'N' stock to play with! ..Yet another crackpot idea.....!
  2. Indeed, 'Junk dealers' who happen upon any 'toy railway' stuff to sell seem to think that all of it is valuable. Pure ignorance.
  3. Even the 'choice'/'rare' ones don't seem to be worth much now. It's the same with magazines...preserved railways just don't want them nowadays. When I kick the bucket the only option is that the family will have to recycle all of them. I've got just about every 'Model Rail' right back from the original 'pamphlet' eight page ones but nobody wants them any more!
  4. A very enjoyable visit was had by the three of the 'Balcombe' team (10800, Brinkly and me) Layouts of a high quality were on show. Copenhagen Fields is a miniature masterpiece all the more so for its age. I particularly liked 'Coppell' with its superbly fine OHLE with 'pans up' running. In 2025 we'll be bringing 'Ouse Valley Viaduct'. Greatly looking forward to that!
  5. Parkend Marsh Sidings this time with loaded 'Herrings'
  6. Used to use that service regularly for summer hols back then. Happy days!
  7. I'll have to experiment with those on Marsh. I do like the shadows cast.
  8. indeed, as Jerry has said. an excellent day. The bonus was to be able to acquire some of Ricey's stuff as a memento. Many thanks to Rob for organizing it all. I still have vivid memories of early starts with CK back in the day! Thanks also to Godfrey for running the bring'n'buy and for selling some Bill Bedford etches for me. Also many thanks to Graham Muz and the kitchen staff for providing a sterling pasty/pie service with the addition of delicious forbidden confectionaries...... well, they were for me!
  9. What an ungodly hour to be up! Pasties et al all now en route ready to depart. 🥴🥴
  10. The foodstuffs include two boxes of Cornish Pasties (or should it be Devonshire?!), a bag of veggie versions and some chicken pies. Also included will be some cheesecake as a nod to event history.
  11. Splendid set of pictures Rob. Brought a smile to my face!
  12. This is what I'll be bringing. Priced at around 40% > 50% of RRP for SWAG attendees!
  13. Will some cheesecake be welcomed? I recall that it was a traditional confection in the early days.
  14. Ah, I remember those TVs well. My Grandma bought one in 1953 and we all (including the neighbours!) sat in the sitting room to watch the Coronation. It had a magnifying screen fitted. Can't remember if it made any difference!

    EBay madness

    Ignorant junk dealer ..........
  16. I failed! probably good as the lot that I was after went for twice my commission bid. Description of the lot was a little 'uninformed' anyway, so I wouldn't have been sure just what was in the lot!
  17. You're right Alan it's defunct, so I assume that the UK agents are now out of business. Their Czech website is fully operational http://www.polakmodel.com/ It's been a while since I've ordered from them in the Czech Republic but one would assume that similar service is provided as from MBR in Poland who several on here have used successfully for some time. Polák do accept PayPal. 100 Czech Crowns = £3.74
  18. They certainly are the best, particularly their 'Naturex' range of meshes......if you can get them...!
  19. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ben-ferencz-last-living-nuremberg-prosecutor-dies-age-103/ A good man. Rest in peace.
  20. Indeed Andy. I recently, with others, had to dispose of a late friend's modelling 'estate' and it was a long drawn out and intensive affair but we ultimately got a satisfactory sum for his family. Some years ago, I disposed of a vast collection for a relative of a family friend via Ebay (a lot of work!) and realized over £4000 (including mint boxed highly collectable Wrenn) when a couple of dealers quoted around £800 for the lot. That's the way of it.
