  1. These are the same size magnets, mounted in the same orientation, as used for the 6point5 minimum gauge kits - so the system works!
  2. South African Railways had some slightly larger Manning Wardle 2-6-4Ts which could be a possibility. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CGR_Type_A_2-6-4T
  3. My feeling is that it's actually really positive news. The 60hp (or 70hp if you prefer) loco, which in my view is slightly more attractively proportioned than the 99hp*, was always a harder sell for us as it required a kit chassis. The 99hp kit has been available for 6 years now and is very definitely at the long tail stage of it's sales lifespan. It's also quite pleasing validation that we made a good choice in selecting the prototype in the first place, considering Bachmann are likely to need to sell an order of magnitude more than we have to make it a worthwhile investment - they have obviously concluded that this is possible. The 009 Society RNAD rolling stock kits have a significant strength over RTR in that they are brilliantly kit-bashable. As Bachmann noted the underframe has found many uses in preservation and I think the kit versions are the perfect starting point for this - long may they continue! * relative term, neither of them are exactly beautiful, although that is part of their appeal!
  4. I can't help with a prototype, but there's quite a long thread on the NGRM forum about 4mm:ft / 6.5mm gauge NG modelling which has covered re-motoring these chassis (and conversion to radio control) that might be of interest. You will have to register to read it but its a good forum in general so I'd recommend a look. http://ngrm-online.com/forums/index.php?/topic/21615-0065-rcand-topics-related/&page=52
  5. Due to fly LGW to Stockholm tomorrow for Christmas
  6. We have accurately sized L&B sets already and most names in stock for Southern livery. https://shop.narrowplanet.co.uk/products/npp-310
  7. Thanks Michael, that was food for thought after we spoke at Warley.
  8. Does the Bala book cover the Festiniog & Blaenau Railway as well?
  9. There were at least two Dr Who's in hall 5 - unless that was just a sartorial coincidence?
  10. Well. This was the first show for Narrow Planet outside of specialised narrow gauge events and what a trial by fire! I was quite anxious about the scale of the thing and the arrangements for unloading and breaking down, but in fact everything ran very smoothly from our point of view and the stewarding was excellent. We decided it was worth investing in a shell stand to make an impression, it's certainly the most professional looking display we've put on so far and the two-aspect frontage made it easy to work with the level of interest we had. Thanks to everyone who came to see us, whether making a purchase or just having a look at what we do. The level of interest from people outside our narrow gauge sphere was really encouraging and I hope we'll get a chance to come back!
  11. Just to clarify, we are not currently offering curved GWR nameplates to order due to ongoing research to ensure what we produce is an accurate fit on your models. We do have 7mm names available from stock in our acquired Thatcher Plates range: https://shop.narrowplanet.co.uk/pages/thatcher
  12. I enjoyed watching the cultural intersection between us lot and the comic con crowd in the food court.
  13. The body is a combination of a 3D printed core shell with etched overlay detail. From conversations with interested viewers at Warley today I think the option to install a more bespoke designed power unit is going to be a necessity so keep watching this space.
  14. Thanks everyone. We're going to consider alternative self-assembly drive arrangements but I would like to make sure a RTR mechanism is available in some form for those who would like one.
  15. For release at Warley is a limited edition run of a freelance Beyer-Peacock 0-4-2T kit in 009, designed for the Minitrains F&C chassis. Inspired by the design of the Glyn Valley Tramway locos of the same arrangement, but without the bodywork required for roadside running, this model depicts a loco of the Llanfyllin & Llangynog Light Railway. This little known railway was later absorbed by the GWR and a Swindonised appearance can be seen in it's later form. The kit is comprised of a 3D printed body shell core, etched overlay detail and whitemetal castings. Nameplates, number plates and GW roundel transfers are also included, plus a short booklet on the fictional Llanfyllin & Llangynog Light Railway which will form a theme of other upcoming Narrow Planet products. Price including Minitrains chassis will be £125, the body kit can also be sold separately on request. Come and take a look at the demo model at Warley on stand A16.
  16. Narrow Planet's multimedia approach to kits has been well proven in 009, but we're a little surprised the idea doesn't really seem to have been taken on by many others. So with the hope of new markets out there to conquer, our designer James has been working on a Standard Gauge Narrow Planet kit. Standard Planet? We might go for Planet Industrials. Anyway... This is the prototype of a kit for a F.C. Hibberd "Planet" in 4mm:ft scale, an 18 ton SCW type to be more precise. It will use the familiar Spud motor bogie and is comprised of a 3D printed bodyshell core and etched overlay detail. Price and release TBA, and there are still some details to resolve, but it will be on display at the Warley MRC show at the NEC this weekend. Come and say hello at stand A16! (we'll also have some new narrow gauge stuff, stay tuned!) https://shop.narrowplanet.co.uk/
  17. Wow indeed! Already wondering if there are any suitable 2'6" gauge Garratts for an 009 conversion...
  18. Drop us a line, we can do them in around 6 weeks. https://shop.narrowplanet.co.uk/products/npp-103
  19. We know many of you love to send railway themed cards at Christmas, and we're here to enable you with this set of new designs with a nod to our kit range by illustrator, and kit designer, James Hilton. Each pack of 12 contains three of each illustration, plus envelopes, and they're on sale now for just £6.95 including UK postage. Or pick up a set at ExpoNG this weekend! A percentage of the proceeds from this range will be donated to the Railway Children charity which works with street children in India, East Africa and the UK. The designs are: Rye & Camber Tramway style light railway featuring our Bagnall side tank and Meridian Models rolling stock A wintry RNAD scene with our 99hp Baguley-Drewry and Hudson crew van The forthcoming Bagnall-Meyer articulated loco on a Bowaters paper railway passenger service An alternative Christmas from down under with the Bagnall saddle tank and EuroNG Jung 0-6-0T (and a turkey on the barbie) https://shop.narrowplanet.co.uk/products/npm-001
  20. Of course then you'll get a mixed content warning from all the images embedded in posts with http links instead.
  21. I don't think Hen Efail is a real person - it's the name of the author's house that translates as "Old Forge"!
  22. Sounds like the right click / context menu. Are you using a track pad or Magic Mouse and tapping with two fingers?
  23. The Pentewan Railway had some interesting locos. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentewan_Railway
  24. I asked The Model Centre to rename and weather my NCB green loco - and now I appear to be planning a small layout based on the Earl of Dudley's Railway.
