  1. There were two double ended motors, the Mk1 and Mk2, one was bigger, and both five pole. From what I recall if you got a "Good Un" you were OK, the fixing was truely abismal, a 6BA thread in one or both pole pieces, but only enough meat to hold about two threads. Nevertheless and like the kits, they could be made to run, and well, a mate in the mid 60's had a stud of K's engines and they all looked and performed to perfection. Mick.
  2. That's interesting, "K's" models and kits started as a sideline to "Pop Keyser's" sweet and tobaco shop in the '50's. The firm moved to Banbury, I believe early/mid '70's, obviously with the passing years the plastic side of the business took over. From what I have read, the tooling for the railway kits went to "Autocom" who kept up production for some years. Does the tooling still exist? Mick.
  3. Way back in ther mid '70's, I built many a 4mm engine. My standard components were K's "D" drivers and their final design of "Plastic" motor. The motor was given a rave review, look up the adverts in the contempory press. Changing the subject, does anyone know why "K's" closed down? Mick.
  4. Roger, a very interesting and unusual model. Mick.
  5. I was not a "Metalworker" until I tried it. Give it a go, you will be surprised with what you can achieve. Mick.
  6. Just checked a quite in depth article on Garve, plenty of drawings and photo's but nothing at all on signals. Best Wishes, Mick.
  7. Model Railway News c1952 had several Highland Railway articles and drawings, but I don't recall signals. From memory there was Garve signalbox and a water tower, and both modelled by myself when about ten years old. Postcard cut up, folded glued together and them daubed over with Humbrol paint, we all have to start somewhere. Possibly, and if I had persivered, I would now be modelling the Highland and not the H&B/NER. I will look up my early bound volumes. Best Wishes, Mick.
  8. Attached the H&B Kitson Meyer version, someone, may like to try their hand.
  9. From memory, the model is a very good likeness of an H&B van, though without checking I'm unsure which one. Many years ago, I was approaced by an editor of a now defunt model magazine to provide an H&B van drawing, which I duly did. I was told it was requested by a manufacture, now obviously "Triang/Hornby". Put on a decent underframe it makes a good model. Attached, the only two H&B van pictures, I have to hand. Mick.
  10. Your projects are well outside my time scale, but excallent work, keep it up. Mick.
  11. Dave, resurect the layout it was intended for and there is more then a good chance. I have the drawings here and most of the dolls and fittings to hand. Who, knows, in retirement, I may get board and need something more genteel to pass the time, I can't chase the "Wild Women" for ever. Mick.
  12. John, good observation, but the GN were not too bothered, if or not a "Loop" fitted. Best Wishes, Mick.
  13. The signal bridge is now completed, any final paint touch up, or weathering etc will be done on site. Likewise, the two missing smoke troughs will be added on site, and thus ensure they are correctly centered. Mick.
  14. Signal bridge now almost finished, A bit of tidying up and paint touch up, plus weathering yet to do. Mick.
  15. At long last, back on the bench. Attached, "Grab Shot" of today's progress with rebuilding the damaged signal bridge. Now only needs the ladder and a good clean down before fitting the finials and re-painting. The photo reveals the front handrail at right-hand end is not true. Didn't show to the naked eye, but now put right, the value of modern technology. Mick.
  16. Fine workmanship, indeed "Out of this World" keep it up. Mick.
  17. Twenty one years almost, since I last pulled a lever. Mick.
  18. Good living? Must be all the wild women! Certainly not done me any harm. Mick.
