  1. Very true. I bowl right-handed, kick right-footed, write right-handed, indeed I am so right-hand dominant that I bat left-handed in cricket because my right hand is at the top of the bat handle and in total domination over my useless, weak and pathetic left hand. Makes perfect sense. Apart from in golf where I drive left-handed but on the green whichever way feels comfortable at the time seems to work. I miss equally well both ways.
  2. I’m sure I have read of people using N gauge fishplates on finescale OO bullhead track, SMP, C&L and the like.
  3. I had no idea how to describe this item, hope the above suffices. Pic attached for clarity. I could do with 2 of these, and also the actual non-driven axle/wheelset if anyone can help. Thank you.
  4. You are right about the SE Finecast flush glazing not fitting the A1 brass window surrounds, but that's no real shame. I use clear acetate for the windows, cut to shape and stuck to the rear of the window surrounds. it is a toss up whether it is easier to attach the acetate glazing behind the new brass surrounds after the loco has been sprayed/painted or whether you should sandwich the acetate between the original plastic windscreen (which has to be cut away somewhat) and the brass surround. I have tried both methods. When using the second method it might be easier if you prime and paint the brass overlay before attaching to the acetate and the loco itself. It's all about experimentation to see what works best for you!
  5. Some people have used a Bachmann K3 for the chassis beneath the B17 body. The wheels are (IIRC) not quite the right size for a K3 or a K4 but fall nicely in between somewhere. I have a GBL K3 body, a spare B17 body and a Bachmann K3 chassis that I might get around to cobbling into a K4 some day soon.
  6. I can’t find any mention of this elsewhere but apologies if it has already been publicised. No connection to the group but I find myself back home in the Highlands this weekend so I will pop along to support the event. http://www.elginmodelrailwayclub.co.uk/events/event/modelfair-2017 EDIT: The link says 2017 but it takes you to the 2018 exhibition page.
  7. Definitely worth the effort. It is starting to look like a model of a locomotive rather than the crude toy that Lima produced.
  8. Thank you gents. Paul, I appreciate your reply but being an analogue dinosaur I'm afraid I don't understand a word of it.
  9. Placed my order. Credit card is feeling the strain. Told my wife that I can’t take it with me. She replied that was true, but I should be leaving more with her.
  10. I’m not a user of DCC but I have acquired one of these locos - the grey model of 20088. I may have misunderstood but I thought DCC locos would run on analogue (obviously without all the DCC functions ( but still with TTS sound - is this correct?))but this loco is totally dead on my analogue test track. It has a ‘void if removed’ sticker over the chip. It looks brand new and unused but nowt happens when I apply power. Can anyone tell me if I’m doing something wrong before I just rip out the DCC gubbins and insert a blanking plate? Thank you.
  11. I think I’ve got an A1 models Class 26/27/33 roof fan and radiator grille - drop me a PM if interested!
  12. I agree with Corbs. Additionally for a couple of quid more you could add brass buffers and etched grilles for the roof fan and the radiator (large grille on the body side). It is fun and you will get a massive sense of achievement from producing something unique.
  13. See this thread, specifically post #3. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/122073-network-southeast-1987-1994/
  14. But there are also photos (on Flickr is where I have seen them but bound to be available elsewhere) of 47/4s in NSE livery in and around the Highlands/Inverness. One that sticks in my mind is of 47573 on a service to Inverness from the central belt.
  15. I really admire this layout and it’s stock, it has inspired me to pick up a few 0 gauge items recently. I hope to see it in the flesh some day.
  16. This might be of use: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/2556-coaching-stock-the-clansman-1986/?hl=clansman
  17. Harvey Hadden still there, show downsized and relocated though.
  18. There’s a very interesting discussion on Faceache at the moment regarding the merits or otherwise of this ‘weathered’ effort.
  19. Does anyone know if the O gauge Triang Novo Big Train mineral wagon body is the right length to be mated with the Peco chassis?
  20. Although I don’t think they are quite the correct type, I have used SLW ones on mine. They were available on their website as spares for a while, not sure if they still are.
  21. Yes, what that man said. Times one thousand. Thank you Gareth.
