  1. Is anyone able to tell me the identity of the 2 locos heading northwards through Clachnaharry and along the Beauly Firth, yesterday afternoon? They had a nuclear flask sandwiched between them. At least I think they did, I was some distance away and didn’t get a great view.
  2. Thank you Signal Engineer - that was most useful. Judging by the photos in that thread it seems to me that the Bachmann model is correct and therefore I need to reinstate the panels on the roof of my Lima version.
  3. Kiss photos? For clarification, the reason I’m asking about this is I have a battered old Lima version of 522, but someone has sanded the boiler plate detail off. I wanted to know what details I need to replicate with plasticard.
  4. Thank you - that is just what I needed to see. I appreciate your time and effort to post that.
  5. Early research suggests this loco was fitted with a Stones boiler and a universal port on the roof. Would any kind person be able to provide a photo of the Bachmann model’s rendition of these areas to ensure they are correct? Thank you.
  6. Aurora’s version of ‘Half the World Away’ is beautiful and far better than the original by those whining Mancunians. Actually, I quite like most of the whining Mancunians’ stuff, but just not this song.
  7. I have just started researching this train, because, like the OP, I'd be interested in modelling it. As my first port of call in my research was this forum, obviously this thread appeared, so rather than start a similar thread I thought I would resurrect this one (hope you don't mind John). Has anybody got any further info on the train? On page 71 of B.J. Nicolle's 'The Last Years of the Class 25s' there is a photo of the train south of Pitlochry, hauled by 25239 as 2N31 on 31/07/1978. It is the usual formation. Any more info or answers to John's original questions would be most welcome.
  8. With the current enthusiasm for ‘Peaks’ seemingly at a peak (sorry!) right now, I wondered if anyone made, or might be prepared to make an etch overlay so as to alter the Bachmann battery box from Class 46 to 45 and vice versa? I have Bachmann 45 sitting on a 46 chassis and I would like to correct this area of the model.
  9. It all looks good to me. Looking back at earlier posts I have discovered that I promised to get back to you with measurements etc., and then promptly forgot as my model was put away in a drawer and I didn’t re-visit this thread. Please accept my apologies!
  10. Not too much progress since my first post on this thread nearly 2 years ago. Cab shortened (I think too much - the driver will need to be quite slim!), radiator grille reduced in size, bufferbeams and buffers added, and the section between the front bufferbeam and the bonnet shortened. It is in a coat of primer to show up any blemishes. Still needs cab doors, handrails, a chimney, general tidying plus a coat of something garish.
  11. Words fail me. So sorry for all affected. Utterly mindless.
  12. Any more progress on those TTAs? I'm looking forward to seeing how they have turned out. Sorry, just read your previous post! It's too early...
  13. I wondered if anyone might have a spare one or two of these? There’s a whole pack of 12 on EBay but it is pricey, and I don’t need that many. Any help appreciated.
  14. Agree with the above sentiments. This is the first time I have been on the forum for days (I’m sure there must be a a way of checking exactly how long)due to the frustrating nature of this ‘feature’.
  15. I think I posted some pictures of this heavily modified Lima shunter a long time ago, but I’ve recently reduced the size of the cab and added buffers and backing plates. The chassis frame has been modified accordingly. Needs cab doors, handrails and a cute little chimney I think.
  16. Come off the A2 at the exit for Bridge (it’s a village) and then follow the signs at the top of the slip road to take you back towards Canters and the park and ride.
  17. I’d like to second what Lee has said: that looks fantastic. I have a very large number of 16 ton mineral wagons and the thought of weathering them is daunting, but your technique is inspiring me to get started!
  18. I wondered if anyone had attempted a project like this? I find myself with a spare Bachmann Class 47 chassis and a Vitrains bodyshell and an urge to attack both with a sharp scalpel. As far as I can make out the basic dimensions match and the only real surgery required is to remove the Vitrains bufferbeam mountings and alter the cab interior/lighting runs. If anyone has done it I'd be interested to see the results.
  19. I had no such qualms about butchering an EM2 body to shoehorn in a centrally mounted Bachmann motor and a pair of LMS 10000 diesel bogies. I didn’t complete it though and sold the constituent parts as spares.
  20. If this is the case then it doesn’t appear to be working. The item I am interested in (and others like it) are still showing as having 10+ in stock. Could it be that the lower prices are not attracting purchasers as the ‘old stock’ is not shifting? Thanks for all the detailed replies to my initial query btw, some interesting insights.
  21. There is a particular item that I have been considering purchasing for a while now, and at the start of December the item appeared in the Hattons ‘Sale of the Century’ at a discounted price. I have kept a close eye on the stock levels for this item, and similar items, and none have sold particularly quickly, even in the sale. I had expected them to be more sought after, and I wonder if Hattons also hoped to shift them more quickly at the sale price. I now find myself wondering if I do not make the purchase during the sale period, will the item be further reduced after the sale ends in order to clear the stock which is not selling as quickly as perhaps Hattons hoped? Or will it return to pre-sale prices? Any retail experts out there with some insight into retailers tactics?
  22. Coming along nicely. Do you mind me asking what your thinking was behind the decision to paint the grille blanking patch before fitting, seeing as it was going to be sanded and smoothed and require the paint touching up anyway?
  23. I have used IPA in the past without gloves. Perhaps this wasn’t the best course of action but I’m still here, so the use of the word ‘lethal’ is a bit OTT. I will, however be using gloves in the future, it sounds sensible.
