My mainly BR Blue workbench

Thanks for the info - I have the book, I’ll check it out and see if a renumbering is in order. -
My mainly BR Blue workbench
forest2807 replied to forest2807's topic in Modifying & Detailing RTR stock
I had a spare Airfix Mk2d FO chassis and interior (body is to be sacrificed for a BFK project) so after purchasing a Bachmann bodyshell off eBay I married them up to create a MK2f FO. I know the underframe details are wrong, they might get fixed one day or they might not. The bufferbeams needed a few thou filing off the faces and it was a tight squeeze to get the two to fit because the Bachmann shell has an accurate tumblehome which continues onto the inner bodyside at the bottom, making it quite thick, thicker than the Airfix equivalent anyway. -
Thanks Gibbo, that is very useful/helpful.

Any chance you could give us a guide to producing the bodyside grilles on the 82?

Please PM me if you would like an objective appraisal of these - I purchased an 83 and an 84. -
Accurascale Scottish 37s announced
forest2807 replied to AY Mod's topic in Accurascale / Irish Railway Models
Just to add to the gallery here’s my model of a very grimy 37262. I bought the bodyshell on eBay; I don’t know who did the weathering. It is a complete repaint/renumber from another livery. -
You are right John, mine seems to have undergone some surgery at some point. Hope that solves the mystery of how it all fits together!
-
The part(s) that your pen is pointing at don’t seem to be what I initially thought they were, having compared your photos with mine. I’m not actually sure what they are.
-
Photos as promised - sorry it took so long. Hope they are some help today in getting it back together again.

The parts under the pen tip are to secure the coupling holder in place beneath the chassis frame, just behind the bufferbeam. I can post photos later, unless someone beats me to it. The springs attach to the little spigots on those unusual looking parts, and the other end of each spring attaches to the ‘V’ shaped top of the coupling holder.

Removing Bachmann Paint
forest2807 replied to cctransuk's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
You are welcome John. I’ve found that it can take a huge variation in lengths of time to shift paint; anything from 20 minutes but occasionally much longer - 24 hours sometimes is required. -

Apologies for the screenshot but I couldn’t link to the original post, and thanks to Wardrail; I have been using this recipe successfully for a while now. -

I've always thought that the Royal Ordnance Depot at Chilwell near Nottingham would make a great model. The A6005 flyover would make an excellent scenic break. It's all gone now but I used to see it regularly as a kid visiting family in Chilwell/Attenborough.

Bargain Hunters Mark 2

I founded this in my local Poundland and thought it might be worth a punt. I won’t be spraying with it, just using it for small touch up jobs. It may be low quality rubbish or it may mean I never have to buy a 14ml tinlet again. We shall see! -

I had a spare couple of hours today so I had a root around my spares box and found a Bachmann motor and 21 pin PCB so they are now powering the hybrid Class 40 which has assumed the identity of 083. I used the PCB in case one day I decide to add lights (highly unlikely); the alternative would have been to simply solder the pickups to the motor. She still requires data panels and double arrows, and I think I have an etched roof fan and grille somewhere. -
Thank you for that info. I might model it too, I have a thing about BR blue locos with red bufferbeams! As well as the location of the MU stars another thing to note is the catches/hinges on the bodyside grilles. Modellers beware!

Does anyone know the number of the one with the red bufferbeam?

Help to identify a tender please!
forest2807 replied to forest2807's topic in Kitbuilding & Scratchbuilding
Thank you all for your help. -
I hope someone is able to help me identify this tender and perhaps even the manufacturer of the kit? I will be totally honest and say that I only need to identity it in order to sell it, so if it is of interest to anyone please let me know.

Renumbering, naming and weathering a Bachmann Class 47
forest2807 replied to 9C85's topic in Weathering, Painting & Transfers
Totally agree on both of these issues, the blocked Railmatch 'money down the toilet' rattle can nozzles AND the inertia/lethargy putting me off using my airbrush. Glad it's not just me! -
Like it! I’m sure we could come to some sort of arrangement. One day, maybe...

Apologies if this is cheeky, but if anyone is after a Bachmann 2 car BR Blue Class 105 I may be able to assist. Please delete if inappropriate. -
