You need to add a broom

Sector plate/sliding table type of staging roads?

Thanks for your comments Rich.
Would the little layout be 'satisfactory'?
You said you like big engines - which Burbage would give (and small ones as well).
I know I have considered shoe-box layouts before, but ultimately, they are two-a-penny at shows. Looking like clones.
I am not denigrating them, it's just they are very common, and don't tick my boxes.
Whereas Burbage would stand out at a show - a goods only site. Plenty of trains going by.

I have seen a lot of unconvincing layouts.
The curved front, following the line of the track. Yes, extra depth would help a lot, but by the time you started putting the buildings along the back, it might have taken away the narrowness of the layout. Did you plan for the mental hospital, or was that going to be on the backscene?

I did like that layout - took a couple of pictures of it.
If you were thinking of disposing of it ...

It has been a long time since I read Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance but there was the emphasis on Quality - getting there?

The interior shot is especially evocative Andrew.

Lucky ...
I couldn't get them to reverse successfully, so I just used compensated wagons on the reversing train!

Tim, As you say P4 does work. Only the first 6 wagons are compensated using MJT units all the rest are converted to P4 using the Knowle Wagon Works tool to cut into the plastic W irons in order to fit Gibson non waisted bearings and wheels. I'm pleased to say these wagons seem to run well without any compensation.
Agree there, a lot of the wagons on Clutton were not compensated, so long as they were pulled, they stayed on the track. Just don't try pushing them!
-
Impressive!
And who says P4 doesn't work ...

Very nice, as usual Andrew!

It is possible to adjust the length of the coupling rods to match the wheelbase, this is actually more accurate than adjusting the blocks in the chassis.
-
Don't do it Captain, 7/4ths increase in length = three times the area a layout would take up!
-
Impressive as always Andrew. At this rate, Cheddar will be finished by Easter, and then you'll be able to start Wells - all three of them ...
-
Dave, the class 2 would look very nice in Salon, if you have a couple of spare pictures.
-
Very nice.
Considering the number of extant disused viaducts from an earlier age (Treffry in Cornwall springs to mind), why not have a complete viaduct?

The Portsmouth show is an excellent show, it was the only one day show I took Clutton to.
Unfortunately I was advised that the train journey due to strikes wasn't recommended so couldn't come down, would have liked to see the layout in the flesh.

Shocking finish on those wheel rims, looks like the tool that turned them wasn't sharp.
Other than that comment, good work Captain!

Have you looked at the aerial photography (1946) on https://roam.somerset.gov.uk/roam/map# ?
-
Check out the film, a very minor (much more minor than your road) road was surfaced in 1952.
-
That road should be surfaced? I thought your model was set post 1950? Check the "Titfield Thunderbolt" film for the road surface.
