  1. Agree with Simon. I think the actual diagram is D3 K1 CG. Bill Bedford does/did an etch for this in 4 and 2mm. The vent at the far end of the coach is above a luggage compartment: the coach started life as a composite, but I think was re-classified as one class. Regards Alastair M.
  2. I can't identify the specific diagram for that coach I'm afraid, but it is one of a number of ex-GC clerestories used on push-pull services to Oldham and also between Manchester, Glossop and Hadfield in the late forties and early fifties. Most of them were previously used in London and Manchester suburban services. If you have access to any of E M Johnson's series of articles (Britain's New Railway) in Railway Magazine or the books he wrote on the Woodhead line, there are more photographs in them. Bill Bedford, who sometimes posts on here is very knowledgeable about actual diagram numbers, conversions etc. Great photo, thanks for posting Regards, Alastair M
  3. Are these GCR loco and coaches available as N gauge items now? best wishes, Alastair M Sorry Simon, I have answered my own question by following the links. Order in!
  4. This is excellent Roger, thanks so much for posting this. I want to come up and walk some of the route soon..... as well as taking the train to Glossop and Hadfield best wishes, Alastair M
  5. I think Lime Street is pretty impressive too. Regards, Alastair M
  6. I think your's is more accurate.......
  7. GC drivers called their long lived Sacre (his should have a grave accent on it) class 6C, outside framed 0-6-0s Bulldogs too....... allegedly. They became LNER class J12 and lasted until 1929/30. Alastair M
  8. Have you considered the Heathrow Express to Paddington? It'll cost more, but it's quick. Alastair M
  9. Isinglass was a regular performer on Marylebone - Manchester trains prior to WW2, as I am sure you are aware - was she even shedded at Gorton for a while? Lovely work as ever Steve, hope you are fully recovered soon. best wishes, Alastair M PS Just finishing one of your D120 vans, very nice too.
  10. The Claughton is so good. Reminds me what great looking engines they must have been. Best wishes, Alastair M
  11. Percy Peckett looks well on the way. Excellent, really enjoying this thread! Alastair M
  12. If you go here: http://www.gwr.org.uk/protriang.html you will find a really useful guide to cutting and shutting relatively accurate 'actual' GWR third (C10) and brake coaches (D37). I have so far done a C10 and I was quite pleased with the results. Best wishes, Alastair M
  13. Is there anybody who has a Foxhunter, n gauge ex-ROD or O4 kit, preferably unmade, who would be prepared to sell same to me? All offers considered! Best wishes, Alastair M
  14. I certainly am Simon. The plan at the moment is to start by producing a small layout based on a (reduced) track plan of Glossop! It may assume a disguise to protect the innocent. I am interested in running it circa 1952 - 3 so just before the big switch on, but with plenty of J11, J10, C13, push pull trains etc with scope for visiting Directors (maybe a long lived D9?) - I think you get the picture. I also have a shot down Bill Bedford J12 in the stash - frankly terrifying. I have a number of exGC matchboard suburbans and clerestories from BB and the 12 wheeler saloon that was used on London Road/Glossop Hadfield trains. I'm working up to that at the moment. I hope everything is good with you and if you were interested in discussing further, I would be delighted. I shall investigate the Judith Edge N5 and thank you so much for the tip. Best wishes, Alastair M
  15. Wow. I would really like to know more about that scratch-built J10! That was/is going to be my next major rolling stock project. That looks superb. The idea of 2mm in the garden is one I would like to explore further too. The Parkwood kits have just become available through the N Gauge society shop again....... Best wishes, Alastair M.
  16. i think you need another fine scale homemade filler cap screw now John! Yours is miles better than the molded one. Sorry....... Alastair M
  17. What an excellent layout - the sense of a real place is inspiring. Alastair M.
  18. I too saw that article. New chassis kits, steel and wood, would be very welcome improvements for N gauge modellers. I don't want to think about the time, injuries and bad language expended on trying to produce V frames that looked like v frames etc. etc , Best wishes, (and to Peco) Alastair M
  19. That J3 is indeed lovely Gilbert. What a treat. Alastair M
  20. Gilbert, I seem to remember that not so long ago, you had the blues about your modelling and Peterborough. How ironic then, that you have now hit the rich vein of form evidenced by the brilliant photographs spread out over the last few pages. This layout and the characters who pass through and around it are fantastic: I would go so far as to say irreplaceable as a piece of modelling. Thank you so much for sharing all this. Truly epic! Best wishes, Alastair M.
  21. I don't think Hornby make a J39, but your point remains valid..... Alastair M
  22. Re 6004; where's the magnificent button when you need it? Happy Xmas to your whole team and thank you, Alastair
