  1. This layout reaches the parts other layouts don't. The 28xx looks great to my untrained eye..... Congratulations. Alastair M
  2. Kevin this is an excellent addition to a great thread. Apologies if you have already explained but how did you build Misty? Is she scratch built or did you use a kit as a basis? best wishes, Alastair M
  3. Oh when the Saints (Oh when the Saints), Come steaming in...… sigh Alastair M PS Bulldog's a good shout too...…...
  4. You could have a go yourself. Epoxy works just as well. It is one of the more straight forward kits. I build mine on a Triang Hall/B12 chassis from eBay (often for under £20). Markits make special Romford Axles to fit the Triang block so you can fit Romford/Markits 26mm wheels. You can glue it together. I now do not use the Wills/SEF cylinders but use Hornby spare from the Railroad Hall X6640 or X6641.] Mike Wiltshire I'm doing exactly this Mike. I have the Hall cylinders from Peter's Spares, but I was saving them for a pretty wrecked Star I bought on e-bay. The other thing is, I have an old Perseverance straight frame Saint kit which I want to build or have built into the work of art that the 29xxs were, so I am now practicing on the SEF Saint (Comet Hall underframe). I had been talking to Chris Phillips, but he's retiring, so the bit about anybody know a good builder was a serious enquiry. Sorry for the hi-jack Rob, I'll pm Mike Alastair M PS Lovely job on the Saint Mike.....
  5. Mike, I think your logic is impeccable. It would sell too, especially if they didn't mould a shelving unit to the side of the cab like they did with the Star. Which is why I am now practising my soldering on a SE Finecast Saint, because I don't think they will do it. Does anybody know of any good commission builders? AlastairM
  6. Oh my, what a beast, Lady or no Lady. Now does anyone think one of the major manufacturers might bestir themselves to produce a Saint? No thought not. Alastair M
  7. Ex ROD Robinson 2-8-0s made it to Shanghai and Australia. Alastair M
  8. Welcome Josh and enjoy..... Alastair M
  9. But nobody has done a Saint, Hornby have all the bits and they would sell like hot-cakes. Sorry, don't meant to divert your thread.... Alastair M
  10. How about that Saint in N and OO. That would sell.....
  11. For the gentleman who was wondering which unit the Shermans, guns and troops in Normandy in post #65 are from. If you look very carefully under the hull machine gun on the first tank, the charging bull of 11th armoured is just visible and that is where these troops are from, with the exception of the German prisoners sitting on the wall! I have this photo in a book somewhere and if I come across it I will post a full reference. 11th armoured were part of the breakout from Normandy, on the right hand flank of the British and left hand of the American forces as the allies tightened their grip on the Falaise salient. Best wishes, Alastair M
  12. Saint and toplights. Sorted. Happy 2018 everybody. Alastair M
  13. I think a J11 and an O4 would make ideal candidates for the shrink-ray.... Cheers, Alastair M
  14. That is just superb Coach, what a picture (#33). Best wishes, Alastair M
  15. Judging from the outline, I think it's a Saint. A man with thick spectacles.
  16. Looks amazingly like a Dean Goods to me. My order's in. Best wishes, Alastair M
  17. Very interested in that Saint you are working on in the background at #360? Could I ask how you are doing that. or if there is a thread for it? Best wishes, Alastair M
  18. Any news on the Saints Dave.....? Alastair M

  20. The 'train in landscape' effect of the first two shots in that last sequence (25137) in particular is choice. Excellent stuff Rob. Best wishes, Alastair M
