  2. My desktop runs Win 7, it is on a hdd in a removable caddy and I also have a caddy with Win 10 on an SSD. Every month I swap Win 7 with Win 10 to install updates, I've been doing this since it was first offered as a free upgrade. there are no other programs on this drive. The problem I have is I have a storage hdd in the desktop and Win 10 reports errors on this drive on boot up and changes something, then I have the same problem when I change back to Win 7. I have to remember to disconnect the storage drive before I run Win 10. Is there a way of stopping this happening?

  5. I used these for connections between loco and tender... https://www.railwayscenics.com/wired-miniature-connector-sets-c-20_22_350.html
  6. The Asda one mentioned above looks to be a good deal for a non user. Says nothing about having to make calls and even so at 4p for a minute maybe twice a year a £5 initial top up would see me out.
  7. I had been on Three for many years from when they were 3p per minute call charge, they recently went up to 30p per minute. I only made a few calls per year. Credit never ran out and no cut off, I put £10 on first SIM when I cancelled my £10 per month landline, and still had over £6 left in June when my son decided to put me on his family and friends account. A waste of his money. I only need a live phone to receive calls, most of my calls are made on WhatApp or Alexa over home wifi. I never had data switched on on the phone as I never use it when out. A monthly contract or having to top up when still in credit is of no use to me. I have just looked and can't find the PAYG tariff for Three.

  9. Hi Paul, I re-programmed the loco and to me it now performs the same as the one I have with active braking and sound functions on different buttons, I want to standardize this on all my locos. The only slip I did (I hope) was leaving the loop for shoveling coal on the button I had now put the whistle on but was quickly sorted. I think this is about as far as I want to go at the moment, my head becomes a ball of chalk thinking about the complexities of it all with so many variables. I am pleased with myself that I have got this far in the couple of months I have been fitting sound. Thank you for your help.
  10. Thanks Paul, I think I may have sorted it, all new to me, looking on the decoder crib sheet I found CVs 155 &156 were to do with shunting speed and momentum so I changed these from 12 to 20 after first disabling what was previously on F20 (volume decrease) and when I looked again at the previously mentioned tabs (pics in OP) I now have 'reserved value' 20. I'll load it to the loco in the morning. My most recent sound decoders came with active braking on F2 and I have managed to set this up on my other decoders but I wanted to go the whole hog and set all the function buttons like for like. A sprog and decoder pro have made this easy for me up to now.
  11. I am trying in decoder pro to move some of the function buttons to match another locos settings. Both are recent Zimo sound decoders. I was trying to move the 'shunt mode' from F12 to F20 but there is no F20 in the drop down box. The decoder that has 'shunt mode' on F20 has 'reserved value 20'. How do I achieve what I am trying to do?
  12. I started up two of my Duchess locos this afternoon, they were both on shed and sounded like they were simmering quietly. I sounded the hooter on one and then the other and noticed a complete lack of volume on the second one. These have dual speakers fitted in the tender and when first set up were that loud that I reduced the volume to 40. I checked to see if I had accidentally lowered the volume even more by the function button but I hadn't, ( I will be removing that feature soon). I wondered if a speaker had failed so checked them individually and they were both working. Not knowing where to look next I compared all the cvs with decoder pro to see if any settings had changed but nothing. A thought came to mind and I put the loco in the fridge for a few minutes, tried it back on the track and the sound was back loud again. Have I been affected by the heat, 37° in my shed with 12" extract fan on, or are the Zimo decoders affected by the heat?
  13. On the Jubilee I did the rods were held on the centre crank pin by a tiny circlip, not sure about the 4mt.
  14. If anyone didn't get the gist of my earlier post it was because I had inadvertently switched on the subtitles and the chuffs from the 'cook and manner' were translated as laughter. Some of the other dialogue was quite funny too, worth a watch with subtitles on.
  15. Just wondering how people are getting on with their Garratts, are they still performing well, any other problems manifested, are the newer ones any different? The only problem I have with mine is it occasionally derails on curves and I think it is due to the buffer beam resting on the coupling pocket. There is no upward play on the pony truck so it can lift the chassis and the driving wheels only having small flanges on them sometimes derail. Has anyone else found this?
  16. On the basis of 'there is no such thing as a stupid question, it is the person asking it'... what was the purpose of the chains on the bogie?
  17. Can't get it to scroll back, is it just me or is it not working for others. It was a useful feature, saved looking at empty platforms.
  18. I don't feel it has hit me yet as I had already reined in my hobby spending when Hornby and Bachmann raised their prices to more than I am willing to pay. I spent £17.50 in 2021. I now have a surplus of hobby money to spend elsewhere which Youchoos have been benefiting from and with more to go their way.
  19. I used graphite powder to lubricate the wheel/chassis bearings on the Jubilee I have just converted hoping it helps with conductivity. I have never used it before so will see how it goes.
  20. I fitted a dcc socket and pickups to a Bachmann Fowler tender, the same method could be used on the Stanier tender.
  21. I did align both ends of the track with the bridge but then when the bridge is rotated 180° only one end can be lined up. If I re-align the other end to the bridge again then when the bridge is rotated 180° both ends again do not line up. This seems to be where the problem lies. I think the centre is slightly off. Other posters on this subject have not realised that their turntable was also out until looked at closer.
