  1. After having had a camera up my nose and feeling it was still there over a week later I have put a ban on anything entering my nasal passage.
  2. Is the decoder plugged in the correct way round?
  3. If you have wired it the same the double slip which is working then it is just the setting of the route that is your problem. You may need to switch 'the other' motor even though you are not using the route it sets.
  4. I have recently left Virginmedia and will soon be losing my multiple email boxes. I have now set up a few Gmail accounts and configured them as POP3 in Outlook. The accounts work when they send themselves a test email. Using Outlook I can send myself an email and it goes to the relevant Gmail account but I can't receive it in Outlook. I can send emails from my phone to any of my Gmail accounts and Outlook will receive them. I can send an email from Outlook and receive it on my phone. I can receive emails sent by others in Outlook. I just can't receive emails I have sent to any of my own accounts using the same email client. I could do this with the VM accounts.
  5. On the single slip you have to also ensure the route is electrically set not just the physical route. There are three routes through a single slip, it can not be used as a diamond it has to be operated like a double slip.
  6. Working in contracting you heard all kinds of nicknames. One site I worked on a chap was known as E-stop. I didn't ask why but then saw him in the canteen with his helmet off and he had a red growth on the top of his head resembling an emergency stop button. Needing a bit of scaffold moving I went to the scaffolder's cabin where I was told to get Wimbledon to do it. Who is Wimbledon I asked, you'll know him when you see him I was told. It turned out that Wimbledon had fallen from scaffolding and it left him with a condition where his head turned left and right in synchronous with his walking.
  7. Not having given DVLA my email address I would treat any contact from them as a scam.
  8. Calling the manufacturers manufactures. Lesson for today... Manufacturers (plural noun) - a person or company that makes goods for sale. Manufactures (plural noun) - the making of articles on a large scale using machinery.
  9. Is there any advantage signing in to YouTube when viewing content? I only ever sign in to upload a video.
  10. Being a low user I now only have a mobile and normally only answer recognised callers from my contacts list. There has been occasions when I have been expecting to be called from an unknown number so there has been the odd time I have answered a spam call. I have noticed that the number calling has been the same as mine up to the last four digits, maybe to make you think you recognise the number. The last four keep changing on consecutive calls so blocking the number is of no use. I found in my phone apps there was a call blocker that works using prefix numbers so by inputting the first seven numbers of my own phone number I have not been disturbed by any more of these spam calls although they are listed in 'blocked calls' so you can see how many there had been. Ok I suppose if you have no contacts with a similar number to your own.
  11. Some years ago my sidecutters went missing at work, so on the weekend I was in Wilkinsons and saw a pair for 99p. I tested them on a card label and they gave a nice crisp 'snip' so I bought them. On the Monday at work I was stripping cables and I cut a 10mm² cable and the cutters felt like a hot knife through butter. When i drew the cutters away the cable was still intact, the handles on the cutters were squashed together and the jaws wide open. They must have been made from lead.
  12. The store at Hattons has re-opened, with revised operating hours.
  13. I will look out for one of those next time I'm in Machine Mart.
  14. A difference between Hattons, Screwfix, Toolstation and Argos is that Hattons' shop counter has not yet re-opened to the public.
  15. That's because he is on the naughty step.
  16. I too will not be purchasing any Hornby products other than from my local retailer. The P2 which I had cancelled was only a 'nice to have' because money is burning a hole in my pocket and will now be going on an Accurascale GWR Manor.
  17. Hattons are my local and preferred model retailer, I have used them since the early '70s. I have only been to their present outlet to pick up pre-orders, and they have even reduced to one or two per year. Their warehouse is a 30 mile round trip for me by car with nothing else on route to make it a two or three shop journey, being motorway all the way. Previously I called in to their shop after a pleasant train journey into the city centre, having a look around the shops, and then a bus journey to Smithdown Road where there is also a large variety of shops and cafes. I made this trip almost weekly (weather permitting) just to get out of the house and I always made a planned or impulse purchase. Also their was no charge for transport using my travel pass. Although Hattons are still my preferred retailer I would not now call them a 'bricks and mortar' outlet in the true sense where you would go just for a browse. I have also saved a lot of money.
  18. Using a 24v power supply with my Gaugemaster cdu I find I can switch seeps (up to 3 on one switch) continuously with no recovery time. Try a decent power supply before getting another cdu.
  19. It's also been a while since they posted any Hornby content on their Facebook page. Edit: Where has the other thread gone?
  20. I have done a fag packet sketch of the signal box diagram. What do the 4** & 16** symbols by the signal box denote?
  21. @30851 I have pm'd you, thanks. I have just found another drawing which also shows a crossover whereas I assumed from the first drawing that the crossing was a single slip, so it looks like I may have made a boob. Not too late to alter though.
  22. I wanted to lay the entrance on to my mpd similar to that at Lower Darwen but for space reasons had to make a few alterations on the loop. What I would like help with is how this would be signaled. Post war LMS ex L&Y.
  23. The early bird may catch the worm but it's the second mouse that gets the cheese.
  24. Joe Brown tucks in to a shovel full at 3:00 mins in...
