Depends on the job - but nights can be great!

At Scalefour North when part of our layout was there I was there on the Saturday, went home slept for a couple of hours then did a twelve hour tampering shift finishing at 0900 on the Sunday morning. I was back at the show but Sunday lunchtime!

      PS Pipes ready to post!

Boris, I havent booked them in advanceso I can't give you what I havent got! Especially as Kevin says you're grounded!

James, cheers for that, I'll get on with fitting them asap! Some night jobs are fine, but filling shelves with beer on a warm bank-holiday weekend, is not one of them!

      James

Following a tamper when it's -15*C is probably still better than that!

  2. is looking for a source of sprung buffers for the front end of an A3 and V2 in OO without much success! Can anyone point me in the right direction please?!

      ozzyo

you want a pair of Spencer's double acting buffers. You may get more answers if you ask in the right place.

      JaymzHatstand

Thanks for that, I'd tried various searches but not come up with anything, but those few key words may well be the catalyst! The Markits NE type look pretty close, but I can only find a line drawing of them thus far!

As Ozzyo suggests, try the forum instead of SUs

  3. has a Beattie Well Tank, I do NOT need to build a layout for it! Or do I?!

It was a spur of the moment purchase really, I just fancied it, which is probably why it's already built, and now decalled. Just loading and weathering to go!

I don't think Sir Alex was too pleased at Man Flu being dumped out of the FA Cup.

  7. Noooo! I just got Whitborough out for a bit of shunting fun and the backscene has developed bubbles and creases in it!

The thing is, it's been on there and fine for about six months, and it was ok a week or so ago, all of a sudden it's got mumps!

    3. Tel2010

      Tel2010

could it be change in weather, been a bit damp here,damp/heating put on ?

    4. JaymzHatstand

      JaymzHatstand

Aye, it could be the heating coming on, not sure how I can remedy it though!

  8. has started thinking about a photo plank, but can't decide between a narrow gauge or standard to start with!

    4. JaymzHatstand

      JaymzHatstand

I seem to've lost one of the lamp irons, so replacing that is the first order of business!

  10. hmmmmm, can I get spratt & winkles around 3rd radius curves? they don't need to be shunted, just pulled

    1. halfwit

      halfwit

If you're just pulling then perhaps use 3 links?

    2. DonB

      DonB

A question for the help threads?. Strangely there does not seem to be section in Skills or Special Interests relating to couplings.

    3. JaymzHatstand

      JaymzHatstand

The idea would be to have the curves between layout and fiddle yard, but to use s&w for shunting ease once on the main layout, more testing methinks!

  11. track sides all painted and running surfaces cleaned off. might have to take a break for a week as I've got a wedding to attend and a honeymoon to go on!

Thanks guys, I am indeed the groom, at least the honeymoon involves rail travel including eurostar and a TGV!

  12. had a successful afternoon putting Parkside wagons together while watching the GP yesterday, now to get them painted before the chassis' go on

      Captain Kernow

Quite - didn't he mind, or was it some kind of new NHS work experience... 'Well, Mrs Miggins, you've got the flu, but I can give you a prescription for a packet of Parkside Dundas on the NHS - that ought to cure you! ;-)

    2. JaymzHatstand

      JaymzHatstand

Thanks for that, I shall await a possible announcement with anticipation and the hope that I can hide whatever it may inspire from the domestic management!

  19. article on BBC breakfast about 'men in their sheds' but not a mention of celebrity shed fan Pete Waterman, or model railways in general!

    1. beast66606

      beast66606

Or Rug or Brian D (and others) who are frequently a "man in a shed"

    2. Rugd1022

      Rugd1022

Tis a dirty job but someone has to do it!

  20. plenty of EE action at York today, 55022, and a pair of 20s inside 10 minutes of each other! #classictraction

  21. found some slates in the alley behind the house, a fair few doors down so they ain't from my roof, the are however in my back yard! They'll be going in FR slate waggons at some point! Mega score!

    1. ozzyo

      ozzyo

If that is blue/green that will be Coniston/Kirby slate, but if it's the purple/black it will be the Welsh F.R.

    2. JaymzHatstand

      JaymzHatstand

thanks for that, I think it's more a grey/blue than anything, but it certainly needs a wash, and leaving it in the back yard should sort that out once it rains!

  22. the wedding at the weekend was a lot more enjoyable than first expected. The only down point was actually the uncomfortable hotel bed, so I got next to no sleep!

    1. Jim49

      Jim49

Complaining about not getting a good night's sleep following a wedding. I take it you weren't the Groom then?
