  1. I’ve used the Hornby / Roco type coupling into the NEM sockets on mine and have worked well in push and pull - I think I used slightly longer screws to keep the coupling cam mechanism together in some cases though was a long time back so not certain.

  4. Stumbled on today by chance that Model Railways Direct also have 262/194/201 in their sale - all three versions with std version at £163. I was being restrained at just 262 then googled 201 and 194 and found both had a Scottish history as depicted in my era…. They also have the earlier releases at similar price but they must have added these more recent versions since I last looked. No connection etc other than have used MRD several times and always experienced quick delivery even up here in the sticks. edit: SF versions are £245 and SFX £247 only £2 more…!
  5. I think the OP meant 114 in EW&S livery which Bachmann also did in its earlier releases of 37/0. If I remember correctly this features a sealed beam headlight on the (former?) doors which I assume was correct for this period.

  7. I saw in the latest bulletin from Westhill Wagon Works that they are doing plough / magnetic couplings for several Bachmann models including new 37 - will be interested to give them a try.
  8. Also worth noting the yellow colour of the ploughs varies to match the front end yellow - something I only realised when my 043 and 409 arrived together. Awesome attention to detail as always - I shouldn’t really be surprised by now!
  9. No numbering technique would help me with my DCC clash - I fitted up 37423 in DRS and programmed but when I put on the track I found multiple trains moved. Further investigation found that I already have 37423 in IC Mainline livery from Vitrains. And 37423 in RF metals from Bachmann….
  10. I’ve always liked the oddity of the non large logo more yellow livery applied to a few 37s - nice job!
  11. I was concerned about the windows in AS37 too but in the flesh I thought they were ok. Personally I find the nose seam on the Bach version more annoying though it barely shows on versions where paint colours meet at the seam- more of an issue on large logo liveries for example. But I’ll admit that the versions of 430 that I’ve seen in the flesh suggest this is not as noticeable as in some pics…. Each to his own I guess - for me I’m taking from both stables at moment and pondering what to do with my extensive fleet of older 37s… Which brings another question… when standing the old and new 37s alongside the ride height of the old really makes it look toylike… has anyone successfully modded the old to lower the ride height? If this is poss then adding a few details will bring the old up to a standard where can work alongside the new for me - otherwise a few 37s might be auction website destined.

May be misunderstanding your comment but if referring to Bachmann’s plough / bufferbeam detail setup then the simple answer is to ditch the Bach ploughs and replace with Accurascale ones - discussion further up thread on how done. The Bachmann supplied ploughs are dreadful and there is no way I could find to fit the plough and details and then negotiate anything more than straight track… and that’s even before starting to think about couplers

I’m trying to hatch a plan… it looks like 371 has fabricated bogies - if I wanted to renumber to ML 379 it looks like she may have cast bogies (from limited photos I can see) so I could swap bogies between 260 and 371 to make them 261 and 379… maybe? I’ll admit I’m not certain 379 was cast bogies….
  14. I was just looking at this and had more or less reached same conclusion from viewing photos. Is there a more comprehensive record of which bogie was fitted to what or are you going by photos too Sulzer71? the cantrail grills do match across the 4 tho.
  15. Bachmann has announced another couple of useful 37s this morning! First up 37260 in large logo with car headlight. Whilst I’m sure will be popular (and I’ll have one) I am surprised she’s been picked over one of the longer lasting IS centre headcode 37/0 in large logo - if I remember correctly 260 succumbed to a fire in 1989 and never ran again whereas 261/2 and (was it?) 183 lasted longer though am not sure how long in LL. maybe we will yet see 261 in RFD… (262 already being done in eng grey). The other release 371 in RF red stripe I am still determining if useful to me… I would love a ML 37/0 in this livery but I think they were only 370/3/9? From a quick scan 370 has different cantrail grilles and 373 is an odd ball with several non standard mods (mind would be an interesting project though maybe not with a £200 new loco). 379 looks light a straightforward renumber I think…. Maybe someone can confirm as I’m aware there are many detail variances…

  18. To complete the story… 401 now has a satisfactory solution to ploughs at the coupled end! As I use Kadees I stuck with NEM pocket and glued AS plough (the one intended for use with tension locks) to the Kadee butting hard against the NEM - it just fits and has plough about right position to my eyes. I then removed the NEM mount temporarily whist fitted all buffer details. the orange ETH(?) fittings in corner of buffer beams needed trimming down a lot (in fact chamfering on inner edge) so that ploughs could turn and not catch on this. Much trial and error over an uneven track to ensure works ok. Following that pipes can all be added but most need trimming in length to avoid fouling the coupler - looks considerably better than leaving off in my opinion. And we’re done. 401 was running trains for 1 hr last night up gradients and around my twisting layout without issue. Just 423 to take care of now but on hold pending arrival of AS LL 37s which will include some more “spare” ploughs (I may have wasted a few in my experiments to date). These mods really make a huge difference and show it’s not too hard to get an acceptable solution even for a ham fisted modeller like me! But were it not for the AS parts ironically then would be quite a bit harder… TBH i like the Bach 37 but the nose seam and now the ploughs will make me think twice about which models I take from this stable.
  19. I didn’t find the need to open out the holes on the side ploughs - they plugged straight in. The centre plough was tight on mine and I found opening the holes slightly or chipping the paint on mounting pins got them to fit. Fitting the ploughs like this makes fitting all the wonderful pipe details possible which really bring the loco to life. I’ve found with the single piece plough with coupler that it catches on the pipes as it moves side to side such that I’ve had to trim the bufferbeam details short to make them work together on the coupling fitted end. I believe the reason the centre ploughs were removed in summer was that they made working the couplings a really unpleasant job - presumably the side ploughs were less of an issue.

  21. Ok the experimentation continues… I tried fitting AS ploughs to the non coupled end tonight. First off I cut the centre plough dummy brackets either side of the coupling away and drilled holes in this position- the centre plough was then installed exactly as per AS. For the side ploughs someone already noted there are holes already behind the buffer beams in exactly same position as AS so the ploughs can be mounted into here. BUT first off the protruding brackets on the bogies need to be trimmed off and I also found the backs of the AS plough brackets needed the webbing removed and thinning slightly so the edge of the bogies don’t catch. Hey presto all fits! Was then able to install all pipe work but the ETH boxes on each corner clash with the plough and require a fair bit trimming off them to make them thinner and fit. Useful tip with the AS ploughs is that the black arm and yellow plough are easily parted to facilitate installation, useful particularly as install details. TBH I’m quite pleased with myself. The details and ploughs onto 401 make her look the biz and she’s been for a spin with no issues. Now to work a plan for the coupled end…
  22. Agreed - have you tackled the ploughs with couplings at all or are you using scale couplings / none? Would be keen to see what solution to fitting couplers with a Kadee - at moment haven’t found a satisfactory solution that allows some degree of buffer detailing

I guess I was right then when I said “I’ve probably got this wrong…” thanks for info - there was something special about the doors though - maybe was just that most other trains being built at same time had slam doors? edit according to wiki they were only mk1 based emus to feature pneumatic sliding doors. That was distinction.
