  1. How on earth are they going to do all that on the stated money? Sounds almost like a £10000 each project
  2. Your call is important to us This is under constant review
  3. Potentially IMHO you would be breaking the terms of your contract with the supplier by not paying for the electricity used and being paid for what you export to the grid if that applies. Anract from a more detailed Which report: " Will I be billed retrospectively? So if you notice your meter running backwards, should you tell your supplier or not? It might be tempting not to, as you will benefit from lower electricity bills. But beware that if the supplier finds out, it has a right to charge you retrospectively for up to a year for the electricity you have used but have not been charged for. If you don't tell your supplier and it finds out, it has a right to charge you retrospectively. Energy suppliers are deciding whether - and how much - to bill for energy usage retrospectively on a case-by-case basis. Most say they understand that, in most cases, the customer is initially unaware of the problem. And so they might, for instance, seek to recover only a proportion of the costs, worked out by looking at usage patterns after the meter has been upgraded. However, once you have told your supplier that your usage meter is running backwards, the company has a period of one year in which to issue a bill for past usage. After this period, you don't legally have to pay a bill issued retrospectively. Consumers who feel they have been unfairly billed in relation to this issue, or who have been charged to have their usage meter upgraded, should contact the Energy Ombudsman " Regards .
  4. What worries me particularly is that we at home use 5x more gas in kwh than electric, in line with most people I believe. The charge for electric kwh is broadly 5 times that for gas kwh so the bill is going up FIVE times before you consider price increases, when we go fully electric. Also, rhetorical question, Is the cabling in my house, street and area capable of supporting all of this load plus car charging? Boris J has a lot to do to meet his promises, IMHO. I love the idea of renewables - we've got electric solar which first option powers the house appliances, secondly heats the house, and thirdly any excess heats the hot water up to 70 degrees. Any left over goes into the mains supply- my FIT scheme does not look at actual power supplied to the mains supply - it is assumed to be 50% of generated. We have a GEO display showing electric generated and used, displaying for a range of info - days, weeks, years and costs for both current and historic ,, Also we have boring old meters - none of this so called Smart stuff. Relying on solar energy feeding a meter backwards is illegal and can result in an assessed bill and charges when discovered. Guess what my original electric meter did, I remmber watching it count down......
  5. catalogues still available; Tescos had several in "Newspapers", so my better half got me one.
  6. a few measurements from 3 irons: Tip Outside diameter 6.90mm 6,9mm 6.19mm Inside diameter 4.12mm 4.16mm 4.12mm Ceramic (gently!) Outside diameter 3.98 mm 4.13mm 3.9mm Cover Inside diameter 7.50mm 7.44mm 7.47mm The third one is the newest and least worn. I strongly suspect Weller not compatible with these. I have had no particular problem with any I've owned, but have a different set of tips for lead and leadfree solders. Hope this helps
  7. For Cornelius L: If the Maplin is temperature controlled then the tips are common on googleand amazon for most of the current batch of irons e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/BOJACK-Soldering-Temperature-Cleaning-900M-ESD/dp/B07T7JZYYV/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=soldering+iron+tips&qid=1643223797&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExQlZJNTdDRlg4WTlYJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNjAwOTkwOU01MjhKMVgwWkFFJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAxNTQzOTgyVkNKMzA0NDlPSUJOJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==.
  8. Problems around Hoylake 1. 1st class local letter sent 5/1/22 arrived 16/1/22; contents were potentially urgent. 2. Parcel from Maidstone sent 9/1/22 arrived 25/1/22 3. Parcel from Dorset sent 7/1/22 arrived 25/1/22 4. Parcel from Germany sent 22/1/22 arrived 25/1/22. (EU - Walthers 2022 Catalogue 800 odd pages). There's a message there.
  9. My one is a Handskit927 from Amazon.....There are a few similar as usual from China. The handle is more substantial than some of the others and is more rigid IMHO. It also comes with amongst other things a tip assembly cover for avoiding ceramic damage when use when cold
  10. Ah for the good old days of rail mail system.... Locally in West Kirby the Royal Mail has been struggling; A first class letter from Arrowe Hosp took up to 18 Jan to arrive - posted 5/1/22. (While critical I had been contacted by phone thankfully on 5/1.)
  11. Over the years from 1960 or so I've used a range of soldering irons both professional and hobby. I have currently, amongst others, a Weller, a Maplins Temperature controlled, 3 or 4 Antex, 1 £8 temperature controlled ,job ( capable of getting up to red hot happily) and currently a new £14 80W temperature controlled one with the temperature controlled on the handle with an inbuilt screen and buttons and it is capable of calibrating the temperature. It came with 5 different tips from fine to cutting. The tip fitting is compatible with that of most of my collection. It is CE certified. Being 80w it gets up to the demanded temperature quickly. The ability to adjacent the temperature on the handle as opposed to go to the control box at the other end of the lead is great, and also has much tighter control over select-able temperatures. Not to mention with the Maplin the disadvantage of having a clunky control unit to locate on the workbench and possibily fall on the floor potentially dragging the iron with it. Just my thoughts
  12. Porky. What - you never visited Hamblings or Beatties or Victors?
  13. Two points A first class posted hospital letter dated 5/1/2022 arrived yesterday, 20/2/2022. Fortunately the hospital had contacted me via BT and I am now recovering from the hernia op; appointment was for 10/1/2022. Secondly a Post Office person assured me today that the poor postal service locally (Hoylake) was NOT due to Covid but to reorganised duties which they are now recovering from.
  14. From Wirral people commonly take jobs in London and then return later in their lives. Anyway why did WIRRAL come up when Widnes was the subject - different sides of the Mersey for starters
  15. Also In the discussion we are not looking at the same picture - we are all on different monitors, screens, graphics cards etc.
  16. Interesting project - OO or N? In the 50s-early 60s, if not before, they used South Wales Cos 0-6-2T - I'm aware of ex TV As and O4s on their last work. (Used to pass the works on SW trains 1953-60 6 times a year and was frantically writing down numbers while trying not to miss any.)
  17. Whoops I missed that issue. Both Diagram 20 and the "GA" shows diamond frame bogies AND In TVR days a manufacters photo shows diamond frames. The wagon number not visible Moving on GW lettered wagon photos of GW 32352 and 32348 show diamond frames. However 32348 is lettered Bogie Bolster A and 32352 is lettered Macaw G So you could have one of each? Can't date any of the photos........ Perhaps 32348 is in early BR time before GW lettering updated? Looks likely - Paul Bartlett shows eg Bogie Bolster B (Macaw C) - perhaps BB A was type with a wide range of varieties. None of Pauls extensive photos shows an ex TVR bogie bolter, sadly Seasonal greetings to all
  18. Taff Vale official drawings, Diagram 22, for the 30Ton Timber wagon (later Macaw G) show body length of 35ft and width of 7ft 4in. Hope this helps?,
  19. The 82xx were rated as less powerful than the Taff Vale As as rebuilt by GWR. Taff A were 4P and 82xxx 3MT, Also GWR design didn't stop with the build of kingaCastles etc - they were steadily updraded over the years while looking much the same.
  20. Merc moaners but RB aren't!!!???? What did Horner say to Masi during their late conversation. It's not F1 racing -it's contrived theatre IMHO. Masi having decided should not have changed his mind IMHO
  21. Would'nt want to classify a kettle as a boiler ..........It boils water
