A(nother) successor to the well loved GWJ. Thanks What is your approach to the absorbed etc around 1922? Are they inside or outside the remit? Regards
  2. Expo EM Early Days I was involved in early circa 1970 Expo EMs at the (Westminster) Abbey Community Centre. A certain Roy Jackson attended. Paddington was later
  3. What is the current status of retail price maintenance abolition; forcing price reduction limits?
  4. I'm contemplating GWR (original) livery and font; " Great (Crest) British" where crest is double arrows or Union Jack. In the later case facing left on each side.
  5. hI, Could I go for "Railway Memories" Peter Matthews please. if unspoken for. How do I donate? Regards Basil
  6. If you leave the plug in place you will connect the dcc decoder output directly to the input; which is likely to blow the decoder.
  7. Train Simulator 2021 Try Humble Bundle in search - there is a train sim collection of downloads of lots of files for costs up approx 9.00 (£9) or so - the basic level gives you the base pack plus some others for 0.73 (73p). This includes the Class 68. This is a charity donating setup in conjunction with the TS Management . They seem to do this sort of offer every year.
  8. Try https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/lx361-oo-62-garden--diy-tools---oo4mm176-9797-p.asp "LX361-OO 62 Garden & DIY Tools - OO/4mm/1:76" - a multi-implement etch I'm just a happy customer
  9. Good to see TVR anything. What period are you modelling? http://www.igg.org.uk/rail/00-app2/gwr/tvr.htm http://www.gwr.org.uk/notvr1.html A couple of decent refs for you. For a book try "Great Western Way" from HMRS Hope this helps. If you are modelling South Wales then the Welsh Railway Research Circle (WRRC) iis a good place to join. Hope this helps
  10. Looks like Pontypridd not Pontypool; if the lattter it is a hell of a long way round?
  11. I think MREG should be MERG; easier to locate
  12. I got an Ocean co po wagon from Powsides this week; their transfer on Slaters wagon.
  13. How about POWsides; they do either transfers or kits with transfers on based on Slaters wagons, at least in 4mm. https://www.powsides.co.uk No connection ecept as customer.
  14. From Taff Vale experience they were successful but couldn't cope, even with a trailer, with the number of passenger demands as the population increased. So replaced by autotrains; both TVR and GWR converted the carriages into auto-train carriages.i
  15. To Harlequin Basic CVs - those define by NMRA without manufacturer's extensions which are usually for sound or fancy features. My experience is that fitting non Dapol decoders to Dapol locos, at the time I did it, needed the CVs reworking to overcome jerky or non- existent movement and also erroneous and incomplete lighting. I appreciate that decoders need to be 6 function and MTC capable. Rather than mess up the decoder CVs I opted to try the Imperiums initially before potentially returning the models with decoder removed of course.. On fitting Imperium decoders the performance instantly, and on separate occasions, which were months apart, got the individual diesels working as I had hoped; this applied specifically on both the Class 22 and earlier Class 122. Obviously Dapol supplied sound locos with whoever's decoders will have the required cv values; a program such as JMRI Decoder pro would produce the full set without the owner needing to select each one individually. The full set would obviously include specific sound cv's which are not relevant to my interest (and possibly others) and Decoder Pro has the capability of doing a selection of non-sound values for other people's needs as it appears from the performances listed earlier in the forum that the problem is still around on the 43s etc , and the person with sound equipped has the same modelas those in difficulty which I don't. Hope this helps - might help I hope.
  16. Comment to Checkrails; are you able to tell us what the Zimo type and what the basic CV values s are, excluding the sound ones, please? Comment to Melmerbry I spend my time and money doing what I want or need to. I don't now drive. Why does that bother you?
  17. I've had the lights and loco motor control problems with 3 different locos/dmu using non Dapol deoders. I found that fitting Imperium (?) decoders (Dapol) cleared the problem completely - lights and control including stops then better than ok. Odd the mags don't seem to have noticed..,,, I guess that appropriate CVs in other decoders would work but haven't got the time to find out what. Absolute minimum is no of pins ( of course) and 6 function to stand any chance.
  18. I promised to reply so here I am. Agree with previous entries, so won't repeat except to repeat the "get a multimeter" and to suggest buying a range of resistors - much more cost effective than buying a few a time. Good luck
  19. Basically what are Hitachi doing to the existing units to prevent 800s jumping sideways in slow speed collisions; the problem of length and necessary coupling mobility sound tough to solve?
  20. Thanks for that. I assume that you have some sort of multimeter and that the voltage measured across the lighting tracks is sensible to the supply voltage, eg close to 12v? If no multimeter then a 12v bulb with leads should show a live power supply. I assume the other reply to your question has ignored the statement that nothing is working. I'm suspecting that something has either got disconnected or alternatively short circuited the supply and so I would like to know whether the other equipment connected to the power unit is still functioning normally. Suggest a browse for short circuits and/or unplugged power supply If the psu is not working try switching it off and on again. If that does not work then disconnect it completely and check that it produces 12v on its own, then gradually introduce the other connections and see if that highlights the cause of the "short" - incidentally I think you possibly have rather a lot of bare wire - potential for shorts. When the led 1 was lighting was it intense or dimmer ?- I assume it is white rather than red or green etc for the next thought - which is to think about the resistor value as the resistor has to drop approx 10.5V. I need to check the likely current - I'll get back to you on this. (Different LED colours need different resistors typically. There is, IMHO, nothing fundamentally wrong in your approach.
  21. I like the idea of the rails for platform lamps; mine will be under the platform surface. To get the replies going: What is supplying the power? What resistors are you using? Are the LEDs the same way round? Regards
  22. I got had at Tondu Shed by "get me a smokebox boiler door key", I was suspicious... The foreman happened to over hear the request at the stores and marched me back to turntable and said "which of these apprentices asked you to do this". I replied while staring at the perpetrator " I can't see him here." No more trouble.

    EBay madness

I've hit the EBay barrier: I've not received goods ordered altho PO say it was delivered -my guess is goods left on window and stolen from there.. I raised a complaint and that was rejected. I am contemplating action under the consumer laws and have closed my account.
  24. Can't resist this: My first flight , as schoolboy passenger, was from Cardiff to Jersey on a DC3 and then a Heron (?) onto Alderney - delayed for 2 days (posh hotel - airline expense) due to the one before going sideways down the "Landing strip" at Alderney. On smooth arrival the fire fighting equipment looked rather rudimentary. Oddly and not planned another passenger was my bros' Godmother who had come from Coventry. My mother took some interest in the attention my father, sitting in a different row, was getting from the Stewardess - it turned out she had been in one of my fathers confirmation classes at St Martins Roath. A later flight was from Heathrow to Liverpool we, married 2 children, (together with Gerald Sinstadt etc) were the next flight out of Heathrow after the "Kegworth", having seen the passengers leaving the departure lounge. At some point the flight changed direction and more or less flew up the M1, after which the chatty crew became very much quieter. My memory is of the vast amount of traffic stopped on the M1, I suspect the pilot was deliberate flying over the incident so we couldn't see it. . Obviously the crew were reporting back on what they could see, hopefully assisting in getting the emergency services there. We only found out what had happened after arrival at L'pool.
